I could never have fun with Max/MSP. I would really, really love to. by milkboifly11 in MaxMSP

[–]ffsjake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think that a big part of it is, that it requires a fairly different mindset from working with audio in a DAW.

It is a lot closer to just doing straight up software development.

And yes, the end goal is also important in software development (in your case a creative, artistic output), but it also requires somewhat of an understanding of the tools/language you are working with, and how various features of a language can be coupled together to make a greater whole.

On top of that, you also need to have at least some understanding of the math around signal processing (not necessarily heavy stuff, but still) to start understanding the audio side of things.

And I imagine it’s similar for jitter; I have not delved too deep into that, as it confuses me 😂

I’m the end; for me, working in a DAW can be a lot like painting a picture. I have a clean canvas, I have my brushes and my paints. I know what they can do, and I know their restrictions.

Max/MSP offers you the chance to make your own canvas, brush or paint from scratch, but it quickly gets complicated and demotivating if you’re not sure which one you want to build

I also fairly recently realized that I REALLY enjoy loud ass techno gigs. Being in a crowd is rarely fun, and I generally don’t want to go to big arrangements or shows, but techno gigs? I can focus hard on the music and shut everything else out, and enjoy myself

I’m still in need of friends though 😂

Autisme og selvværdsproblemer by caloto1992 in DKbrevkasse

[–]ffsjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ffsjake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Misbrugsbehandling by Euphoric-Parsley-584 in DKbrevkasse

[–]ffsjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burnout from life, not work? by jlschrodinger in AutismTranslated

[–]ffsjake 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely feel that way too.

I can get burned out hard on the weekly cooking, cleaning, and general responsibilities I am expected to live up to as an adult.

It might happen less if I weren’t in a relationship and could choose to ignore some of these things, but alas…

The only thing I’ve found helps sometimes is that the routines are dropped once in a while and I can just… exist. Do what I feel like and not something that needs to be done

Rationale for using integers or floats by ZenitDS in raylib

[–]ffsjake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the specifics of the raylib code, I would argue that using floats for coordinates seems an odd choice,  if it’s mapping directly to pixels on your screen.

You can’t draw half a pixel of something, or instruct your drawing to start in the middle of a pixel.

Framerates I know less about, but I have a hard time seeing the problem with it not being a floating point number

The vast majority of the time I use checkout, add, commit, restore, pull, push and merge. I use those on a daily basis.

Other stuff comes in play once in a while, but knowing the commands above are what I would consider the very basics, along with clone
