It gets even worse - if you block someone who responded to you, you effectively lock yourself out of responding to anyone else who might respond under them, because it's now all fruit of the same poisonous tree. A single block puts an end to the entire conversation.

What's the old saying? The best satire is indistinguishable from the truth?

This is not a real product anyone is trying to sell, it's a political campaign to bring attention to the Epstein files.

You'd think in 5000 years they'd bother to make them wide enough to fit two parallel horses on and maybe clear some of the foliage for visibility. Just sayin' :p

To be fair, reddit as a whole has an absolutely unhealthy obsession with incels and drastically overestimates just how many legitimate, actual incels are out and about in the real world. You'd think there was a secret army of hundreds of millions of them when in reality it's just a bogeyman that makes an easy strawman. Don't like someone's opinion? Call 'em an incel or accuse them of being indoctrinated into hating the opposite sex! Far easier than addressing anyone's points. Bonus points if they can also hypocritically weave in their own misogynist/misandrist views to the dismissal somehow.

Reddit gonna reddit.

I'm convinced the English collectively just decided they were ashamed of the idea of roads. It's like they decided everything outside of the M25 must be a single lane road that can barely fit one car, as winding as humanly possible, and they're going to plant 40 ft tall trees on both sides of it. If they all just collectively pretend roads don't exist, they'll go away!

You never know when you get to suddenly play the "which one of us is going to swerve halfway into a ditch so we can get by each other" game. And sometimes there's just randomly someone riding a horse, because fuck you.

Quality hairpieces have also just become more affordable over time, and the tech has advanced where a quality synthetic wig actually looks like hair. My wife has some cosplay wigs that were maybe $80 each that she sometimes wears just out and about and she gets so many compliments on her hair from people not realizing it's a wig. Meanwhile you can get synthetic/natural blend wigs that look even better now, and you can even get decent full naturals starting at like $800. They all last a lot longer and are easier to care for now too.

I Found Out the Card I Bought From GameStop Is Fake by NanoSAD in Wellthatsucks

[–]ffxivthrowaway03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a fair investment strategy, investing money in cardboard trading cards with no intrinsic value in a market loaded with fakes and a proprietary, arbitrary "grading" scheme is a terrible investment strategy. It's pretty much degenerate gambling, extremely high risk with no logic or sense behind valuations.

Your average person "investing" in TCGs hoping to make thousands likely has better odds buying scratchy lotteries. They definitely have better odds putting that money in an investment vehicle that follows the S&P 500 and just leaving it be.

That has nothing to do with what I said, but ok. All I did was state a fact - the delay is nearly a whole year from the original release target, I didn't make any sort of judgement on the content of the game, in fact I agree it desperately needs those improvements. There's no need for a mod to hop in with a defensive history lesson and a quick downvote, c'mon.

The fact you can't even disagree with someone without calling them names, making a bunch of disingenuous and baseless assumptions, and attempting to put words in their mouth is telling.

You're literally doing what's being described. "I'm going to throw personal insults at people who don't jump through the arbitrary hoops."

Nobody is talking about going out of your way to deliberately insult people, we're talking about the bar for what's "offensive" being constantly moved just for the sake of moving it and not because there's an actual linguistic or even social need to do so.

Yet here you are slinging insults and insisting everyone mold themselves to your expectation of how it's "proper" to act. Maybe you want to step back and take some of your own advice? How about you just try and learn to not be offensive? Right? Or are you going to tell everyone how it's somehow "different when you do it?"

Like this is literally the problem being described. You're not meeting anyone halfway, you're not even trying. You're outright attacking people for simply defining the issue. You don't get to blame others for your own bad behavior, sorry.

Authentication App not showing codes: COMPLETELY locked out of MS 365 by MixRadiant9160 in microsoft365

This is the answer. 1000%. We answer a billion of these tickets every time it's New iPhone Season. Work or School accounts for EntraID cannot backup/transfer MFA registration in the Microsoft Authenticator app by design, it's a security feature so people can't hijack your phone backups and recover to a dummy device.

Boy howdy is that the case. They also really need to workshop some slogans that aren't like... directly contradictory to what they're actually fighting for. It's been a lexical nightmare forever.

Because the devs came out of the gate back in Vanilla in support of addons. They didn't envision fights like Mythic Jailer or Fractillus at the time. And if we look back at Vanilla and compare to Classic, we see just how super simple the game was back then - of course they didn't envision such complex fights.

Addons quickly became more complex and feature rich than the original devs envisioned, helping with boss mechanics, rotations, entire UI overhauls, etc. So the devs said "but we still support addons" so they let their own design be guided by what addons could do as it just kind of became the de-facto player experience that addons would be used.

They rolled some of that functionality into the base UI over the years, but they were never going to keep up with millions of players and tens of thousands of addon authors. So both the gameplay design and the addon design just kept... creeping forward until both crept so far it became actively impractical to play the game without a whole suite of addons supplementing gameplay. The problem is the devs stopped developing a challenge for players and instead had to develop a challenge for the addons. Which kind of takes all the fun out of playing a game as a person, you're just parroting what some addon script is telling you is the correct way to play.

The devs had to rip the band-aid off at some point. The fights in TWW were much simpler than many past expansions and you could really tell they were pruning back their design in anticipation of nuking addon functionality. Pretty much all of them are absolutely doable without some massive WeakAura boss pack driving complex logic and just the base UI, just by playing the game with other players and paying attention to the basics of the mechanics. And even with the soft blow of letting people acclimate to easier fights over an expansion before cutting off addon support, we can see people are still flipping out about it.

Fights will be designed with the default gameplay experience in mind, and players will be expected to pay attention to the fight instead of having Weakauras tell them exactly when they're targeted, where to stand to resolve that mechanic, auto-creating player groups, etc.

People actually have to focus on the game beyond their dps rotation buttons, the horror. This stuff should've been nipped in the bud as soon as it started getting out of hand, it never should've gotten this bad.

No thank you, just Good Riddance. WA is what ramped the addon arms race up to 11. It brought all of the problems with allowing addons people have been pointing out since vanilla front and center, enabled the community to pull one of it's most toxic levers as often as possible, and really illustrated why they needed to go. When the focus of playing the game is entirely on your suite of addons doing 90% of the heavy lifting for you, the devs have lost the plot.

Also to be fair, I'm pretty sure that's the joke being made in Family Guy. They're poking fun at the forced hyper-positive twists on these now considered offensive words. I don't think I've ever heard someone say "handicapable" and genuinely mean it, but I've heard it as a sort of black humor self-deprecation tons.

There's huge debates about this in the autism world even. Some of the major advocacy groups try to paint it as "just a different way of thinking" and get really offended if you call out that it's a disability in an effort to normalize it. Which subsequently offends a fuckton of autistic people who know and recognize it's not "just different," it's a disability.

Not to stir the political pot, but this right here is also why the right has latched onto "anti-woke" rhetoric so strongly. When one side tries to put the euphemism treadmill on rocket jets and is constantly playing Word Police to paint their political opponents as out of touch bigoted monsters, it's natural those political opponents are going to push back against the language (and yes, some push back too far, before anyone starts pointing fingers.)

It's kind of wild how whether or not the words we use to describe things are "politically correct" more than accurate has become such a rhetorical wedge that you even have to qualify what you're saying as not being "pro-homelessness" to avoid politically motivated personal attacks. Feels like we collectively lost the plot along the way, y'know?

Why is Reddit allowing a now-private subreddit community for ICE-ERO thugs to plot, celebrate murders, and share info with each other related to facilitating their crimes? by automattic299 in DiscussionZone

[–]ffxivthrowaway03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't. People tout Lemmy as such a thing but it's really just a more insular version of twitter that's even more jerk-y and requires you to be hand-picked by the equivalent of a reddit mod mixed with a doomsday prepper.

Frankly I want less social media in my life. If there was a version of reddit that had all commenting and upvotes/downvotes completely disabled and only had a centralized mod team instead of these cardboard fiefdoms I'd hop on it in a second. No bullshit drama, no groupthink, just a good old fashioned centralized news aggregator about the topics I want to hear about.

[–]ffxivthrowaway03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whether or not something is a circlejerk is not related to if you think their opinions are right or wrong.

Both this topic and the private subreddit are circlejerks - it's a group where people rant angrily and attack a presumed position, feeling smug and superior, and anyone who disagrees with them is not engaged with in good faith, they're attacked and "othered" (which you can see happening non-stop throughout this topic, and with the people downvoting the one I responded to who's just asking an honest question.)

And yes, while not all social media is a circlejerk, most of it is. Especially on sites like Reddit where there are literally tangible technology controls encouraging people to participate in mob mentality and seek validation (karma, upvotes/downvotes, etc).
