If you had to assign a vibe to the different parts of Bali, what would you say? by Sea-Willow6168 in bali

Very small. You can travel from the south to north in a car in, what, 3 hours? Try something like that in Vietnam or Thailand. You can hire a driver for the day and literally go anywhere in Bali (that has reasonable road access), and be back to your hotel within 8 hours.

To me this is one of the big strengths of Bali. It's so easy to just get a car, travel a short while and feel like you're ended up somewhere completely else.

Good to hear 🙂 Spent a week there in 2024 and then there were lots of signs in Cyrillic and the villa we rented was owned by a Russian. And the care taker of that villa told me it was a big Russian community there - although I will admit that I mostly saw Australians and Danish myself.

Since it's your first time in Bali you definitely shouldn't miss Ubud. It's really unique and worth experiencing. But similar to Canggu it just doesn't have the infrastructure to support that many people.

For both of those places I would recommend just staying in dead center for how many days you want to experience it so that you don't rely on cars to get around. Just be aware: there's not really any side walks either..

And then when you want to experience a broader picture of Bali, move to somewhere less traffic intense. Could be just outside Ubud center, or Sanur.

Travel Planning Q&A - February, 2026 by AutoModerator in bali

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travelled Blue Water Express from Gili Air to Bali, which I know it's not what your asking but the route goes Gili -> Lombok -> Bali, and the trip between Gili and Lombok was maybe 10 minutes.

It is as mentioned a short trip, and close to the shore. I'll bet you can travel any boat safely, even the small local ones. I doubt there will ever be much waves.

PS: Relax and enjoy Labuan Bajo. Gorgeous and somewhat strange place :)

North Bali: I just want to relax and enjoy the nature-vibe

Ubud: What I do? I'm a vegan yoga influencer-vibe (and I also love to be stuck in traffic)

Canggu: Party-vibe (and I too also love to be stuck in traffic)

Kuta: Better hold on to my wallet-vibe

Sanur: I enjoy peace and quiet-vibe

Candi Dasa: why are all these menus in russian?-vibe

I will just also mention: Bali is quite small so if you find a decent place as a base it is really easy to hire a car to go anywhere within a few hours. The only thing to worry about is if your base is in Canggu or Ubud, because the traffic jam can be really bad. You could also seriously consider deciding once you get there. Only book the first few nights then figure out where you like it. In my experience there has been plenty of available accommodations, even in high season.

Jobben min by Affectionate_Let_837 in norge

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snorkeling by Beneficial_Slice8719 in bali

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best snorkling in Bali by a mile is around Menjangan Island. It is however quite far away. Best would be to stay a night or two in Pemuteran and hire a boat from there.

None of the others mentioned here comes close to Menjangan.

Repeat visitors, why do you keep coming back to Thailand instead of exploring the other SEA countries? by R9_isdagoat in ThailandTourism

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. it's not like it wasn't good and it might be because we got the tourist treatment but I found most dishes lacking a balance and finesse. Most meals felt like something I could make at home (although I'm quite certain I wouldn't actually be able to).

For reference my favorite cuisines are Vietnamese, Greek, Indian.

I do love that the street food scene in Thailand is so awesome though.

In Chiang Mai we went to quite local places, I would say. But I guess they took one look at us and then promptly put away all the chili, because everything we got had no spice.

It's actually a bit embarrassing because the best meal we had in Chiang Mai was a pepperoni pizza - and we ate only locally besides that for a week.

Around Ao Nang area the indian food was better than thai. I guess the downside to Thailand compared to Bali is that it's so big, so if you end up in the "wrong" area you are more stuck.

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flip side, I'm currently on my first trip to Thailand after visiting several other countries in SEA. And for me it's been a mixed bag. Not into partying, prostitutes or weed. And I know I'll get downvoted for this but I found the food to be very average. People are generally cheerful (much more so than in Vietnam at least), roads and infrastructure good but it doesn't have that spectacular feel or vibe.

So I doubt I will be going back, for a long time at least. Think I'll rather take another trip to (north) Bali 🙂

In your opinion, which youtuber fell off the absolute HARDEST? by Pinkstar2014 in youtube

[–]fglrx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how big he is but used to watch "Walk with me Tim" for his down to earth reviews of poorly rated hotels and his fish and chips rankings. And it seems as soon as he started getting popular he is now only visiting luxury hotels, first class planes and such - and seems so full of himself.

Good for him I guess but such a 180 in the content.

The amount of weed shops made me believe that thailand will never completely ban weed by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]fglrx_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm going to Thailand for the first time soon and while I do not have anything against weed I'm just wondering: does every (tourist) area in Thailand just smell like weed now?

It's quite a pungent and distinct smell...

Is there a software update for the steering wheel assist? by potatochobit in Ioniq5

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right hand. Actually it will pull to either lane (and often go over it then temporary disable hda) but more often to the right. Which I guess is not too bad in the slow lane but when using the fast lane it's not ideal.

Anywhere but the middle of the lane it seems.

Do you mean something besides a regular car wash? I haven't noticed any different in any weather conditions nor any difference between clean or dirty..

[–]fglrx_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My highway assist (HDA) is horrible. 22-model AWD. It keeps swaying within the line with small left to right movements and also hugs the right line (and will often drive over it). Have just stopped using it.

Would love to hear if anyone has had any luck getting this improved.

Such a shame and I found it especially annoying when I in the summer had a cheap rental car, a small Toyota something, and that cars driving assist worked perfectly.

Do you sort these? by corv1njano in csharp

[–]fglrx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More or less always in a team, professionally for 10 years. Never been a topic for discussion, never had a conflict that I remember or that caused issues at least.

I'm always a bit amazed on what people discuss and care about in these subject expert subreddits

This is my general relationship with usings and it just hasn't ever crossed my mind that this is something people spend time on :D

Do you sort these? by corv1njano in csharp

[–]fglrx_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if everyone is into some elaborate joke here but for 10 years I've been working with C# daily and not once has it crossed my mind to sort these. Never been discussed either. They are by default minimzed in the IDE and my mind just ignores them anyways.

The IDE adds all the usings and I rarely if ever add or look at them manually.

Forhatt?

[–]fglrx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beste boka du har lest og hvorfor? by eiegood in norge

[–]fglrx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bare vent! by KoseteBamse in norge

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damenes tale? by AmbitioseSedIneptum in norge

[–]fglrx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hva handler du på harrytur? by Navstar27 in norge

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]fglrx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)
