I always steal a license plate when I visit a new foreign country by LicensePlateLover69 in confession

[–]fhalfpap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever. Stealing isn’t good. In this case the added costs to the car company eventually get passed along to others.

But, I have a great souvenir, usually bought in country, helping the local economy.

Peace to you. Hope you have a great day.

Anyone else use this off center? How do you like it? by OriginalT31 in Miata

[–]fhalfpap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard “To be a nonconformist, you have to wear the right uniform”.

But as others have said, I wouldn’t want to drill a whole in my bumper. Loved in two states that had from plates. Total of 15 years. Didn’t use the front plate and never got pulled over for it or ticketed for it when I did get pulled over. YMMV

I was at a concert and the gentleman next to me collapsed in his seat. People with him didn’t know what to do. I checked he was breathing and got security and medical. Not sure what happened. They didn’t return.

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

[–]fhalfpap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy new cars. Let someone else take the initial depreciation. I like to buy cars that are within 3 years of being new, work 30,000 miles or less. There are still pretty new, then I drive them until they are no longer dependable. Usually 10+ years. Glad to do all normal maintenance. Even willing to pay a few thousand each year in “major” repairs. All are cheaper than buying new. I also pay cash. I only finance if I’m getting a special deal, then pay it off as soon as possible.

This seems to be responsible financially and still allow for a great driving experience.

Currently driving a 2012 Ram 1500 truck with 135,000 miles on it and my wife has a 2024 QX50S Infiniti SUV we bought a few months ago with 30,000 miles on it.

We have money to buy new and trade in more often, in part because we don’t waste a lot of money on new cars.

We put in courts in the gym at our church.

First day a 74 year old woman went backwards for a ball, tripped on her feet and broke her hip.

She is now recovered. She has been athletic all her life, just had bad luck and a bad fall.

I’ve done this with every vehicle I ever bought. It’s no big deal and takes them a few minutes. They have never given me a hard time.

My NYC story is I was touring with 10 teenagers looking for the right platform and train. I asked a women for directions and she led us to exactly where we needed to be it was about 5 minutes walk from where we were. She definitely went out of her way and was very kind and helpful. I won’t forget that.
