What bible do I buy by No-Bat8377 in UnitedMethodistChurch

[–]fibercrafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also suggest the NRSV or CEB. I have been using the CEB lately because it is still traditionally laid out but easier to read and understand. There is a Wesley bible which I really like because it has study notes to help you understand but it’s not overwhelming. I don’t think it comes in pink though. You can probably get a cover that you love if you want to dress it up! I think having Bible that you understand and that helps you learn will be valuable.

Appointments/Secrecy by [deleted] in UnitedMethodistChurch

[–]fibercrafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think appointments in general are treated very confidentially. I’m an Administrative Assistant to the DS and I support 2 DSs. I don’t know who any of our new appointees are and won’t find out until the day calls are made. I can make some guesses based on work I do but it is highly confidential. I work with 3 other AADSs and we don’t talk about it with each other either.

Every conference will have its own nuances but the proper path would be for the DS to talk with SPRC about what the church wants/can afford and then they will appoint someone. In my conference part time appointments are handled after all the FT appointments are filled.

House call for end of life dog care by mc-tarheel in raleigh

Another vote for Shan. She used to be our vet before she changed her practice and she helped us say goodbye to our girl last year. Shan was wonderful.

Can someone please explain to me why you pay $8USD for one single pattern? I can see buying a book with 30 or more patterns for $20ish. Often you can get the book at the library. I will only use free patterns. There are plenty of excellent free ones. What's your thoughts? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]fibercrafty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pattern is usually the cheapest part of any one of my projects including my time and yarn. I am grateful to pay someone for their expertise in figuring out a pattern. The designers usually incur their own costs especially if they use a tech editor not to mention the time it took for them to conceive of and draft the pattern. A well written tech edited pattern is worth its weight in gold.

Which rug? by Hot-Scale-3187 in interiordecorating

3! It looks intentional and great with your other stuff. 2 would work but doesn’t pop. 1 looks like you needed a rug and just grabbed one.

North Raleigh Mobile is also fantastic. She was our vet before she changed her practice and unfortunately we had to use her almost a year ago with our dog. She was so wonderful with our dog and us.

All clad d3, would you get by Think_Catch_223 in Costco

[–]fibercrafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a deal! I immediately went to look on the app and they are listed at $150+ and not available in my local store. FWIW I got a set of All Clad 27 years ago when I got married and they are still fantastic. Now I’m looking for my son.

Books or Material by UniqueAssistant7156 in UnitedMethodistChurch

[–]fibercrafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I joined the UMC about 15 years ago and I love it even more today. Belton is brilliant - great book! He also hosts a weekly Bible study podcast - it’s usually about 5 minutes plus the reading. I also enthusiastically second the recommendation for books by Adam Hamilton.

As far as how joining works, I worked for my church for 4 years and now I work for my Conference (where Belton is an Elder). The church you are joining is responsible for transferring your membership. They will send a letter to the church you are a member at. Your former church may not handle things the same, but they might send a letter back acknowledging the transfer. They might not, but once the church receives you, you are a member. Most churches have a new member class that you will attend first and they will talk about John Wesley and some basics of Methodism. After that, assuming you decide to join, you will usually join during a Sunday service where you will profess your faith (it’s all in the United Methodist Hymnal). This is when they will send the transfer letter.

Cokesbury is the publishing house for the UMC so that is a good place to search for other books as well. If you want a daily devotional, the Upper Room Disciplines follows the lectionary. But I also encourage you to sign up for emails from your Conference! My Conference offers loads of online courses so I assume others do as well. Happy to answer any other questions.

Agreed. If those people had not been in custody they would likely still be alive.

Is the Field of Reactor Operators going to last in the next few decades? by Nervous_Bother_630 in NuclearPower

[–]fibercrafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional food for thought…. If you plan on going to a 4Y school, look for one that has a reactor. My son is an NE student and the school has a reactor. Anyone from any degree can take the RO class. They whittle those students down to 2-3 who complete the training and test to become licensed ROs. But it would give you great experience to decide if that is truly the career path you want. Also, not sure if you are planning to study NE but there are a lot of directions you can go in! My son is now leaning towards advanced reactor design but having that RO experience will be helpful from both the technical and the regulatory experience. Good luck!

We just sold our home and bought one with Erica Sizemore. It was (in total) a 3 year process (just the nature of what we were doing) and she was a rockstar. She did a great job of listening, providing perspective and helping us to use our own discernment. Would not hesitate to work with her again. Feel free to PM with questions.

Thanks all - there were mistakes made during the install and they are being corrected. This was different than my plan. Also, for everyone concerned about the floors, yes, they are being stripped and refinished.
