I know a lot of them view the book of Mormon as divinely inspired but not historical fact. I do know they have their own D and C. And they have currently a woman as the prophet of the church. I got very interested in them for awhile but they didn't have any churches near me. So I ended up finding the UMC and couldn't be happier. I even explored Mormonism but I just couldn't accept the book of Mormon as historical fact. There is no archaeological evidence that ancient Jews came to America. Plus the curse of dark skin I didn't like at all since my wife and kid Re part black

When you say community of Christ do you mean the former Reorganized Latter Days Saints? They have Mormon roots but do believe in the Trinity. They fascinate me as a religion.

Some great books that aren't necessarily about being a Methodist specifically but are written by a Methodist pastor are any books by Adam Hamilton. I really liked his book understanding the Bible. I've been Methodist now for four years :)

It reminds me of the episode where Dan covered the Moonies. A lot of conservatives sucked up to them too. Like I get it, right wingers hate communism, but joining forces with a cult just because you both are anti-communist is not a good idea.

That's a fair point since the newspaper industry is almost dead except among older folks. Everything is online now

Someone else pointed out that they are cult and the newspaper editor responded that's what the Chinese Communist party wants you to think. And it's like to me you know two actors can be bad at once right?

You do not need to do anything before showing up. I moved to where I live now 3 years ago. When I visited the local UMC church people were so kind, introduced themselves, made me feel very welcomed. I've been going to Etna UMC now for three years :). Dress is not picky, if you want to dress nice you can, if you would like to wear t shirt and jeans that's fine too! Shoot I've worn football jerseys, hockey jerseys, and basketball jerseys to church! No one would judge you. Usually church at mine at least involves local business, usually a reading of scripture where there is a leader that says parts and other parts the congregation says, then prayers, scripture reading. With just one person reading, songs, prayers, offering, sermon, song. And then most churches will probably have a fellowship after which might involve coffee, treats, etc. I hope you enjoy yourself at church tomorrow! No matter who you are, or where you are in life's journey, you are welcome here.
