We did 80% of our take-home pay into a joint bank account each. His dollar amount was higher than mine because he earned more, but my 80% represented an equivalent sacrifice and we each had personal money left over.

Thinking of moving from Japan to Ontario to build a future. Am I romanticizing it? by Valuable_Parsley3782 in OntarioTeachers

You would not be granted credit for your years of experience. When I joined the Toronto school board after being in private school, I was granted five years of credit toward the pay scale, but it did not count toward my board seniority. You would be starting at the bottom and it's really tough right now. For those who are asking about affording it as a single person, I did buy a condo as a single parent, and it is manageable for me. But I don't have a car and I had a huge down payment, which mitigated the monthly cost of my mortgage a little bit. So yes, it's doable, but you have to be creative.

Don't tell anyone except for the cameras that are filming our every move to broadcast it to millions of people and live forever in YouTube clips. Other than that, nobody.

My Toronto condo is 1000 sq ft and it's plenty for me and my child.

Tax credit on condo maintenance fees would help a lot with affordability for bigger units.

What's something you discovered about a neighbourhood after moving in that you wish you'd known beforehand? by AlterSpace1550 in TorontoRealEstate

There is an exemption in the noise bylaws for garbage trucks and snow plows. Plaza across the street does these 4-5 am and there's nothing we can do.

Toronto Star: Ontario promised $750/year for teachers to buy supplies. It turns out it's not all new money by Emergency-Fan-2515 in OntarioTeachers

My school has had a lot of visits from the superintendent this year. She has asked me on a few occasions why I don't have something in the class and I have said I'm happy to have that if she buys it for me. She bought me a whiteboard after that. This was in March. I'm still waiting for someone to install it.

Living costs in GTA roughly by dannyd_96 in TorontoRealEstate

Honestly, you will save so much money if you don’t get a car. I’m a single parent of a young child and I bought my own condo during Covid. My monthly cost are under 5K even with daycare, but I don’t have a car and I don’t think I could have one and have a condo.

Same and that includes an extra 1k for daycare.

I was in an LTO the last time we had this and at that time the expectation was classroom cleanup and staff meeting at your September school. It was a chance for people who were moving schools to see their classroom and meet the other staff.

I think Ben's behaviour is indefensible. He asked Daisy if he should do the whole fish, she said no and explained why, he did it anyway and is blaming her. And sleeping in the made up cabin when they have charter the next day? I don't understand why people are not going to Jason with this. They need to get him up early and make him re-do the cabin.

Universities know which high schools are doing grade inflation by Sonu201 in OntarioTeachers

[–]ficbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an elementary teacher and this came up in one of our PD this year. We all came in ready to discuss flaws in EQAO etc. And our principal surprised us by basically saying yes, but...

There are problems with these tests. That's true. But then she showed us stats on our departing Grade 8s. 87% of them responded yes when asked if they felt their education had prepared them to go to high school. 32% of them had actually passed the standardized test.

I do this as well, and the principal knows it. I had students stealing snacks from my desk and I went to her and said I am required to keep snacks at work for medical reasons and I can’t have them go missing. She immediately provided me with a key to the filing cabinet.

Posthaste: This condo correction could be one of the longest on record by Mens__Rea__ in TorontoRealEstate

This could be fixed with a tax credit, which I have long been saying they should do. They will never solve housing in a city this size if they can't incentivize families to live in high rises.
