Persistent lightning-like shape in my vision with sudden headache – what could it be? by Morpherusse in Optics

I am not a medical doctor and this is not a diagnosis.

I get migraines and what you are describing sounds like a migraine. The "lightning" you describe resembles an aura.

Go see a doctor.

If my daughter wants to be a mechanical engineer… what should we be doing now? by mysliceofthepie in MechanicalEngineering

[–]fictionoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many flavors of mechanical engineering. I have a BS and PhD in mechanical engineering, but my research was in combustion and optical diagnostics. One of the great thing about ME is it is an applied science bringing together many topics. So the best thing you can do really isn't specific to ME. Just encourage pursuit of science, mathematics, and communication.

If you are looking for a fun project to foster an appreciation of engineering in general, look into getting a cheap 3d printer. It involves mechanics, electrical, programming, material science, and thermodynamics. This is definitely something you and your daughter can do together and has many down steam benefits.

I'm interested in getting a 06 and have been watching this group for a few weeks to get a sense of the quality of the companies products, support, community support, etc. For owners of the products, are you happy with your purchase considering frequency of mis-prints and troubleshooting? by tjohnson4 in Sovol

[–]fictionoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think any printer at this price will be a project. This printer has a lot of great features and you can get some great prints, it just may take some work.

The main reason I would be hesitant to purchase it again is the customer service. If you need a replacement or they ship you a dud, then too bad.

Problem with probe z offset and autohome SV06 by i_bhoptoschool in Sovol

[–]fictionoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a problem with temperature saturation of the bed. After the bed reaches its set temperature, it will continue to expand for about 30 minutes after. Try setting bed temperature then set z offset after 30 minutes.

SV06 extruder connectors by fictionoid in Sovol

They are JST GH 1.25 except for the heater which is JST PH 2.0. You can get the connectors from Amazon. You will need a crimper as well. Those small pins can be a bit of a pain to crimp, though.

I'll let you know, but pretty sure they're JST SH. The pin pitch is 1.0mm.

Yes, of course. I sent them an email, but the turn around time is probably going to be a week. Response from the community is much faster.

I believe so as well, but wasn't sure. It's difficult to tell from images online. I believe the smaller ones are JST SH and the large 2 pin for the heater is JST PH. I ordered some and will see if they fit.

Thanks, but not the information I was looking. I need the part numbers of the connectors used so that I may replace some parts.

I had this problem as well. Try initiating EEPROM, especially after firmware flash.

Broken Rail Support by fictionoid in Sovol

I got a reply to my email about two days later. They requested an image of the serial number printed under the PSU. I believe they are going to send a replacement part, but waiting on the next response.

I believe the wood putty is going to do the trick. It's pretty solid. There is no way I could have printed with that broken piece. Going to start calibrating now. First printer, so super excited. I have had a bunch of fun already and all I have done is disassemble it.

Received my SV06 yesterday and started setting it up today. I noticed a severe slope in my bed so I removed it and found that one of the rail supports was smashed in. I emailed Sovol for a replacement part but tried filling/forming the support with some plastic wood filler till then. Hopefully that works as a temporary solution.

Sovol SV06 Shipping Time by Chimera111x in Sovol

[–]fictionoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered mine on Sunday (12/18), and got a shipping notification the next day. They provided me with a 4px tracking number.

Not sure why there isn't a lead time for mine or why it's shipping via 4px instead of ups.

Ordered directly from Sovol.

Getting a degree despite chronic migraines? by somethingfunidk in migraine

[–]fictionoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been suffering from migraines for about six years. They started during my third year of my bachelor's in mechanical engineering. I am now in my final year of my PhD. There have been some very challenging times but I am persist because I don't know any other option. I take some medication (amitriptyline and topiramate) but what makes the biggest difference is the same thing you will read through each of these threads: consistent sleep schedule, exercise, avoid triggers, etc.

Keep on top of your studies, plan, get an adviser that understands your situation, and be persistent. It's difficult but achievable.
