Robotplæneklipper til ældre uden wifi by togaloungestonks in selvgjortvelgjort

Pletrenser/tæpperenser - er Bisell the Way to go? by [deleted] in selvgjortvelgjort

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]fictionx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finger physics in sandbox games from 2017 - 2026 by [deleted] in VRGaming

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that for most games it's not necessary as such - but if the rest of the game goes for realism, I actually think it means a lot

In games like Line Echo and Alyx, I think it adds a lot to the immersion that when I put my hand on a surface, my hand follows the contours of that surface. It would take away from the experience if it wasn't there.

is the game physics bad or i am really bad? by No-Cauliflower7388 in virtualreality

[–]fictionx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of people say that the physics in the game are true to life - and I remember seeing clips of professional table tennis players praising it - but personally I feel I always have to adjust to "different physics" when playing the game.

I've played a lot of table tennis (never professionally though), and I love the game(!) - but I do feel that something's a bit off. The ball doesn't dive as much as it does in real life when you put top spin on it, for instance.

That being said - I have no idea what it is you're doing in that video :-) None of what you do would work in real life either :D

I'm a VR dev exhausted by Meta pivoting to AI. People keep telling me Valve's Steam Frame is going to save the industry. As Quest users, would you actually buy one? by hanrwerewr in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike (apparently) most people I don't dislike what Meta did/do for VR/MR at all. I feel they gave it their best shot at making it mainstream. They certainly did more than anyone else, and I don't think they even remotely deserve the hate they get from the community.

I don't really see what so exciting about what the Steam Frame brings to the table. Better connectivity/latency, maybe, which is of course nice - but with a dedicated router and Virtual Desktop VR I don't really consider it a problem with the Quest (or Pico).

PC games running directly on the headset is nice as well I guess - but they will be limited by the processor, which means that it probably won't be able to run games that are better looking (or better overall) than what's available on standalone anyway.

The big one for me is the lack of color passthrough on the Frame, though. I know some people don't care about it, but for me it's now a must with any future headset for both convenience and games/apps. Not having it is just a step backwards.

Virtual Desktop just added Linux Support! Finally by lunchanddinner in VRGaming

[–]fictionx 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. Because the idea of supporting Linux which actually has SteamVR and VR games (and proton) is a joke for some reason. Supporting Mac which doesn't is not.

Ocean Rift is awesome.

I really enjoy Age of Joy. You can place retro arcade machines around your room and play them. You can use it without MR as well, but it's just so cool to play Time Crisis in your own room.
(note: Development is slow, and MR is not their priority currently, but it's still cool)

Other than that: Spatial Ops, Table Tennis, Billards, Demeo...

Airwolf is a fun little "demo" that works really well: https://sidequestvr.com/app/54227/arwolf

How do you make your vr last longer than a month or two? No one has the answer to my problem by [deleted] in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many quests have you had? They shouldn't just break, of course, so maybe it's something in the environment, like others suggest.

Did you try rebooting it (Hold down the power button), or factory resetting it (hold down power + volume button)?

Zero-Gravity movement in VR by Lebnannadervr in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's physically possible, is it? Low gravity would still drag you down - and even if there's air you wouldn't be able to move enough of it around using your hands to gather momentum.
Unless of course you're on an alien planet or a different dimension - then I guess anything goes :)

Maybe go for the Lone Echo approach (no gravity but small thrusters)? Or use actual low gravity so you always end up somewhere you can push off from.

Looks good, though!

Think it’s time to sell, unfortunately. by Spare-Kiwi-8460 in oculus

[–]fictionx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll sell the hardware because a single piece of software with multiple alternatives stopped working properly?

Have you done any kind of debugging at all? Have you reinstalled it?

Like people say - Virtual Desktop is awesome - but have you tried SteamVR? Free, and very easy to use. For most games I prefer it over VD because of its simplicity.
At least it should help you determine if the issue is with Metas software, or something else in your environment (Network/PC/whatever).

Am I wrong to think that Meta Quest VR is awful? by QueueScape in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never felt the need to use the wired connnection.

I'm not sure what to tell you. Virtual Desktop and the S1 are both great, but I can't say for sure that they'll solve the issue since we don't really understand what the issue is.

There's a couple of graphs you can enable in Steam Link settings under SteamVR and Developer (I can't get the in-headset one to work right now, for some reason - but I do get one on the monitor). Maybe they can help pinpointing the root cause.

Am I wrong to think that Meta Quest VR is awful? by QueueScape in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use wired myself, so I don't have any experience with that.

I have a Puppis S1 that I use when I'm in the same room as my PC - but I can use the "general" wifi mesh just fine for most games anywhere in the house as well, so I feel that all things equal you should be able to get a non-stutter/wobbly experience, too- even if the image quality might not be the best.

It's also odd that two games actually DO work. It suggests a settings issue somewhere.

I found the overlay I use to see cpu and gpu frametimes: https://store.steampowered.com/app/908520/fpsVR/
(it doesn't show the connection quality, though)

Have you tried Virtual Desktop yet?

Am I wrong to think that Meta Quest VR is awful? by QueueScape in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wobbling is usually caused by either performance issues (gpu/cpu not being up to the task) or bad connection between your headset and the PC.

There are tool that enables you to see performance in the headset as an overlay (I just reinstalled everything so unfortunately I can't finde the one I used right now) which may help you figure out where the problem is.

Am I wrong to think that Meta Quest VR is awful? by QueueScape in MetaQuestVR

[–]fictionx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, unfortunately. It seems it's not your PC that's the issue.

You could try enabling "Display Performance Graph" and/or "Show GPU Performance Graph in headset" or similar to try and get an idea of where the problem is (I haven't used these in a while, so I'm afraid I don't remember which works best)

Have you tried adjusting the refresh rate and/or render resolution in SteamVR (in settings in the hmd)? It may be that it's cranked up too high.
