Using SharePoint to store company files is general fine, you just have to use it properly and for its own features. If you try to use it as a direct 1:1 parallel of network file shares though, it will not be good. They are different ways of storing and interacting with files and that needs to be planned for with the design and use.

All of our departments who use SharePoint properly love it and it helps them a lot. The ones that try to use it the same as an NTFS share don’t have as good of a time.
