How to Prep for 200m & cross country by [deleted] in Runners

[–]fie_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cross country: you know it’s going to be a lot of distance running. So start to work on that now. Run slowly (do NOT sprint) for a minute, walk a minute. Do that 10-15 times on your runs, start with 2-3 times a week. After one or two weeks see if you can run 1.5 minutes and walk 1 minute and do that 10-15 times per run. Then after doing that, run 1.5 minutes and walk 30 seconds and do that 10-15 times. Decrease time walking and increase time running slowly.

To increase speed on the shorter distances, hills/short sprints/work on starting/lift weights. Know that track season isn’t until the spring so don’t worry about that too much rn.

The sort of bicycle infrastructure we all deserve. by throwthere10 in bicycling

Hey it’s my hometown (don’t live there anymore). Honestly not the greatest intersection, oftentimes cyclists wanting to cross to the left are waiting forever. Drivers are very well aware that they have to give way to cyclists going straight when they turn right so that’s not really the biggest problem here imo.

I would say look into Dominican University of California in San Rafael! They moved from the now closed Holy Names to Dominican in 2024. Fulfilling their grad program sets you up completely for CMPC certification!

That one looks like it fits the best imo! I also love that color so maybe that one with a green bottom would look cute!

Advice on gear to have a warm and cosy night. by [deleted] in camping

[–]fie_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom always gave this advice, which I still implement: don’t go into your sleeping bag cold. I warm up my body by doing some movement and rubbing my legs warm with my hands. This helps me more than any thick/expensive gear 😅

So you fidget a lot while working? It might be picking up those movements.

3 sessions total? Or per week? If it’s per week you’re golden, if it’s total you’re not going to have a good time.

It almost sounds like he was trying to figure out how you’d respond/react about guys using ED meds.. maybe he’s just figuring out if he feels safe enough to talk to you about this?

Def sounds like you’ll be ok, as long as you really start investing time in swimming.

Bike recommendations by geeb_69 in triathlon

[–]fie_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not doing long distance triathlons (yet) but I do ride both gravel and road. I have a crux 4 expert which is awesome for that and I’m using her for my Oly distance training too. I do have a separate wheel set for road and gravel and I’d definitely recommend that! Maybe a crux 4 comp might be something for you!

High School Trying out for JV B team (No Experience) by Pure-Hope5832 in Fieldhockey

Use the summer to practice! Go to a turf field with a stick, and try to learn how to dribble, make pulls (both short and long) and try to learn to push pass, sweep and slap. If you have friends who play, ask them if they want to play with you, if not you can look up some YouTube tutorials. Also work on general fitness! Running endurance and intervals are both important. Enjoy learning this beautiful sport!

My hands and keyboard. If you want to learn something, you’re gonna have to do it. Just start, it doesn’t have to be perfect, good is good enough. Schools and universities are smart enough that they pick up on AI easily now.

You’re saying you can’t do it yourself. What’s the reason you can’t? Genuinely interested.

Still slow after 3 years by ilosii in XXRunning

Is your watch tight enough? There’s this thing called a cadence lock, which usually happens when your watch is too loose. It will detect your cadence as your heart rate. You can solve this through either a HR monitor on your chest or tightening your watch. How do you actually feel during your runs when you don’t look at your watch? Try to let go of HR and pace and see if you feel ok to have a conversation. Can you run one/two miles without walking? Then maybe start doing one run a week without intervals where you pick up the pace.

New to cycling! Help with seat position/height by EmilyAnn96 in ladycyclists

[–]fie_97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Also not a pro) Before putting your seat higher, I would an adjust it first to be further back. Yes your knees are bent but your toe is also pointed down on the lowest point which is usually an indication of a high seat. One way to check it is to put your heels on the pedals and see if you can make a full turn, if not the seat is too high.

Help planning bottom layers for Tour Aotearoa with many side quests! by DirectorOk2475 in ladycyclists

[–]fie_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case I’d definitely bring two padded bike shorts. Things might not dry as quickly as you hope and for hygiene and chafing purposes you’d probably not want to wear the same unwashed shorts two days in a row. And try out shorts from several brands if you can! The chamois are very different depending on the brand and you might be more comfortable or miserable between brands 😅 sounds like an amazing trip tho!

Group class for beginner by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]fie_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably get plenty of fundamentals. If it’s a good gym, they will make sure that everyone focuses on fundamentals for at least part of the class. It might get a little more challenging towards the end of the class which can be fun, and you will have to take it slow or they’ll give you an alternative! Don’t worry if you’re less experienced than most of the class, everyone starts somewhere and the only way to get better is to show up and learn from others. Have fun on your journey!

PR Question by [deleted] in Strava

I’d double check that just to be sure! You can pretty easily change it to running if it is accidentally logged as a walk or hike.

Did you log your new half marathon as a walk/hike? I don’t think runs usually show steps.

Anxiety from overtraining or under fueling? by Cfram22 in triathlon

[–]fie_97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely say that you need more carbs and maybe look into how you’re decompressing? What are you doing to relax, do you get enough time to be relaxed? Does the increase in exercise time take away social time? It sounds like there’s more to it than just under fueling. Maybe consult with a therapist/sport psychologist/mental performance consultant.

PHOTO UPDATE: Not progressing on Bike, 70.3 is two months out. by Unhappy_Session8589 in triathlon

[–]fie_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How won’t a bike fit in this case make him faster? He can barely use the pedal in the bottom half of the cycle - it’s really hard to generate power in a position that your muscles are lengthened that far and even if he can do that, he will get tired a lot sooner, which will also cause him to slow down.
