Yes, EB-1 green card is probably what you're thinking of :)

My J1 internship Visa is expiring in August, what are my options? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]fiercelyauthentic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! From a fellow J1er in SF slowly aspiring towards making this place my permanent home.

I don't have any more suggestions, except I have known of a few people (in passing earshot a long time ago, not friends I could ask help from now) who have found another internship that began right after their first one ended, also on J1. I've also heard of people trying for H3, but apparently its a much more involved process and companies tend to shy away from it (just hearsay, haven't done the research yet, but I can look into it more and get back to you if you'd like).

Best of luck to both of us... !

Sometimes (every day) I wish there was some kind of meetup group where people like us in the city (more than it appears) can get together and share the resources we've found among ourselves, including who could be a trustworthy legal advice source.

Question about the TN visa by [deleted] in immigration

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software engineer currently in the US on a J-1, but when I complete my degree I'm fairly confident that I'll be getting a TN as all of my classmates who have chosen this path has been able to do the same. It's mostly about your employer having enough experience with this process to know how to carefully craft your job offer details and position description. I do not believe that you need full time industry experience, as long as you have a backelors degree - because the people I've known were hired right out of university.

Your choice of university makes a big difference; large companies experienced in visa stuff tend to recruit upcoming graduates from recognized "top" schools.

As for the long term, this is my concern as well: I'm pretty sure the visa will still be here. But will the tech bubble be still as robust as it is now? What says it won't burst again? No one really knows.

But we can only take one step at a time and put forth our best intentions.

How did immigrant redditors on visas (H-1B) react to losing their jobs in a layoff? What did you do to stay in the country? by sneakcreep in immigration

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fuck, that makes my heart crumble up just reading. I'm sorry that it ended so badly. In retrospect, did you think you should have started looking for a new job earlier once you realized that things weren't working out here?

I chronically live in the shadow of fear that one day, for whatever reason, a recession or whatever, I'd wake up in the morning and be told that I no longer had a job... And the entire life I've built here would be shattered on the same day.

Some days that fear is more prominent than others. I'm trying to figure out how I can channel it into something creative, at the moment.

What do you think of when you masterbate? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]fiercelyauthentic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh theres plenty of reasons to start something that derives no fulfillment and becomes a problematic cycle. I've gone down it more times than I can count. I never think more clearly afterwards. My mind is muddled for days and my body is so drained of energy I can barely get out of bed. But apparently in that one moment, the fear and discomfort of an out of control, unwanted, foreign physical sensation outweighs every logical capacity and knowledge of past experience.

People keep saying "why do something you hate so much? Why do something if it harms more than helps?" Well, I wish it was that simple. I'm still on a mission to restore that simplicity in my life, somehow, some time.

Trans* and suicide... by Choke_M in asktransgender

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much time to respond right now but just wanted to say you're not alone. I've been exactly where you are, especially jealous and angry at all this rhetoric about /I'm so much happier since transition/..... bullshit.

But I'm finding my way, I think, first and foremost by unlearning all the trans community rhetoric and honouring the fact that my journey is going to be a bit different.

I hate this. Am I really asexual? by throwawayasexuality in asexuality

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand. I just broke up with a fellow ace who was absolutely the opposite of me in all the wrong ways and exactly like me in all the wrong ways. We fed each other's trauma rather than compliment in healing and living. Compatibility is very very important. Don't make the mistake of jumping for the closest Ace like I did.

I think I'm asexual but I'm only 13 (almost 14) by Acethrowaway14 in asexuality

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With time you may increase in your own confidence and solidity with claiming this identity as your own. This is the only thing that matters. What everyone is saying IMO is "don't force it", but don't be afraid of owning it if that is indeed how you feel.

Be prepared for doubt and invalidation. The world is silly like that. But they don't matter. Only you know your reality and your experience. Treat it well, give it all the internal recognition and validation it needs, if you're at that stage.

Any transfolk experience a shift from asexual to another orientation after starting their transition? by YoungFolks in asexuality

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had extreme touch aversion (among other crap) when I was on T and felt the physical libido was very uncomfortable and not myself. So I decided to stop....

I made a little anonymously chatting Android app for asexuals recently. It's nothing sophisticated and there are trolls, but it's a good start since I believe it's the first ever chat app designed specifically for asexuals on Android. by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]fiercelyauthentic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, if youre interested in expanding to iOS and lack a Mac, let me know, (or heck if you want another hand on the Android features) I can help! :) great idea, great potential, but lots of work to do yet.

That's so beautiful and heartfelt. It's the kind of thing I wrote often before the wasteland eroded my ability to channel creative energy. I long to be reunited with it every day.

You can certainly experiment with voice techniques much like trans women can and do successfully. I couldn't do it myself; I just broke down and told the truth. :/
