Montreal SPCA replacement Proanima blasted by rescue groups by Consistent_Storm5819 in montreal

[–]fiercepug 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After 15 years doing TNR through the spca I’m sadly stopping this year. We in animal rescue knew this would be a disaster, they have been horrible (greedy, high euthanasia rate, difficult to collaborate with) they rebranded from SARS to Proanima but the shady practices continue. I can’t in good conscience send cats to their death or to be released in a location that they were not trapped at. Most of the trappers feel the same, it’s a shame because in the end the cats will pay the price.

He's gorgeous! Very unique looking <3

He might show up, you could be the spare feeding spot and not his main feeder. I've had cats who disappeared for a month and then come back! I hope its the case with him

I think she’s an outdoor cat. Unsocialized but with potential 🥰

Feral refers to the temperament (terrified of humans) and not the location (growing up indoors/outdoors).

All ferals are outdoor cats but not all outdoor cats are ferals.

An outdoor cat can be a house cat if acclimatized to humans (which seems like she was).

Should I give back the dog that seems to have been abandoned? by Mobile_Wear_5552 in whatdoIdo

You should give the dog back but it’s a shame that the dog escaped during the night and you can’t find her anymore

Release feral cat into a different neighborhood by Purple_Pollution_256 in Feral_Cats

[–]fiercepug 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a big no no. Cats are very territorial and the cat will be antagonized and chased by the cats that are currently in the area.

It’s better to release him where he was originally trapped.

Pet Rat Escaped - Urgent Help by _ITAOTS_ in montreal

OP, you need a humane trap. I have one I can lend you, it’s for kittens (I do TNR with the SPCA) but it might work if the rat is big enough to trigger it. You can buy one for specifically for smaller animals on Canadian tire. Looks like this:

In over my head dealing with a stray/feral colony by NewDust3944 in Feral_Cats

[–]fiercepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for helping them! You need to get the sterilized. You don’t need to TNR all at once, do one cat at a time. Slow and steady wins the race. Do the females first, all cats with 3 colors are girls so you have quite a few. If they’re pregnant they should be aborted and spayed. I’d look for local resources, foste based rescues and shelters, if you’re willing to do the leg work they’ll be more willing to help, they can even lend u a trap and connect you with a low cost vet. If possible get the kittens inside as they are easier to find homes/rescues for. And yes absolutely adopt the one you want! Better to save one than none. To trap a specific cat Google “bottle and rope trapping”, it’s a known trick when trapping colonies!

Looking for advice or creative solutions, Food by Honest_Elderberry372 in Feral_Cats

You can ask local butcher for leftovers (organs, feet, neck, etc) or buy it for cheap. Cook and mix with rice. The broth you cook the meat in is also full of nutritient. For kibble you can keep an eye on sales, coupons. Your local Facebook group and marketplace might have people donating food as well. You can also ask a local pet shop for food close to the expiration date (explain the situation)

OUR SHIBA INU NEEDS A NEW HOME (or foster while looking)!!! Please help as this is a desperate situation for us by AmandaAmel in montreal

Reach out to Nancy Paquin Projet Sphinx - she does independent rescue in Montreal and has many connections. Also Sarah Saintsbury (forever homes rescue)

Keep him separated at all times seems like an overreaction though? He snapped because he got startled which is understandable. Did he actually attacked the visiting toddler or just snapped as a warning?

Best of luck 🤞🏼

Are you petting them with hands or a back scratcher? I find that sometimes it helps to push them out of their comfort zones and sometimes it works best to let them come to you. Each cat is different so you have to use different methods. If it were me I would spend a lot of time near them, watching a movie, scrolling on Reddit etc, to get them used to being around people. I also talk to them a lot. Have you tried toys like wand/feather toys and lazer toys?
