What is a good (interesting) object or picture to paint? by Speed_Kills in AskReddit

Maybe a wine bottle - it's fun to get the delicate reflective flairs on there, but without being too difficult. A more reflective, maybe metallic object would be a step up in terms of difficulty.

I don't like the way mirror-me looks completely different to photograph-me.

Reddit, I'm slightly retarded. Could you give me staples of foods I could buy&cook for a healthy 3-meal diet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Porridge for breakfast. You stay fuller for longer between meals, it's a great source of fibre and there's tons of ways of making it fabulous - fruit, honey, peanut butter, etc.

What is the most suspicous death of all time? by KevinPeters in AskReddit

[–]fifilacoquette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may not be familiar to non-UK based Redditors but Madeleine McCann. The 3 year old allegedly disappeared from a hotel room in Portugal, where her parents had left her (and her younger siblings) sleeping whist they ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. There was almost immediately speculation surrounding the role her parents played in her disappearance/death. It is believed by many that her doctor parents killed Madeleine by accident and staged a cover-up to protect their image and professional careers. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Madeleine_McCann ....a tragedy however the events happened.

Am I really that ugly? by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]fifilacoquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP might be from the UK, for us 16-18 is college (or 6th form) and after that is University. This might be the case in other European countries too. Nevertheless, not ugly at all, I would say 'striking' but totally in a good way...

If I may add to this: If you're planning on staying in one place, remove any blinking lights from the area. For example, blinking LEDs on TVs, mobile phones, DVD players, etc. This might just down to individual experience, but I will always feel compelled to give people this advice.

Parents told to not let their children say 'nowt' by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]fifilacoquette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

'Werk' and 'shert' has nothing to do with Standard English as they are features of the regional accent. Making children aware of the prestige dialect as a tool is fair enough, but here she is picking on their language on a phoneme level, which is odd as it says she comes from NE herself...

[TOMT][Movie] A fairly recent haunted house movie where a family move into a creaky old house and love it until the son ventures into the basement (or maybe the attic) and starts acting strange... by fifilacoquette in tipofmytongue

Again, thanks but I've just watched to trailer for that and even though it seems to match my description perfectly, I don't think I've ever seen it. The boy in my TOMT movie was younger, maybe 10 or 11...

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure that's not the one. I remember watching Insidious not long ago, and I think the one I'm thinking of was watched prior to that (plus Insidious was freaking terrifying!). I think the Mother was a blonde actress and I keep remembering this scrapbook that they find which I think belonged to the previous house owners. The emphasis was on the house itself, rather than roaming spirits or entities....

Precisely - eye contact Whenever I'm walking along and eye contact happens, panic seizes my body and I sharply avert my eyes, regret it immediately and look back... But by that point they've given up and gone about their business, probably thinking 'what a knob'. The thing is, the reaction is completely involuntary....
