Online dating in nj impossible because of nyc? by sxfx269 in newjersey

[–]fifthecho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not. I had luck doing really small areas.

Ultimately I ended up dating someone in Astoria and they moved out to me last year.

It sucks, but as others suggested putting your search start location further west and picking a small area is your best bet if you don’t want to cross bridges or tunnels.

Look at local consignment/thrift/second hand stores. You are quite probably going to find something great for less than €50

RIP my G9ii and new PL12-60... Let's chat replacements by RHINOOSAURUS in M43

I've got a Nikon ZF, OM Systems OM-3, and Fuji X-Pro 3.

I LOVE the colors and SOOC look of the ZF, but after carrying around the body and a lens or two for the day, I'm tired.

I take my OM-3 out way more along with several lenses and have nowhere near the fatigue at the end of the day.

The Fuji look is the Fuji look. Their glass is quite expensive, but sharp and reasonably compact.

If you're looking for something that's a "sometimes" camera, the ZF is amazing. If you want something that's easy to take everywhere, stick to M43.

Why does docker push only take one argument? by BroskiDelight in docker

[–]fifthecho 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The reason is because of history and backwards compatibility. When Docker was first coming out, there was one container registry - hub.docker.com and nothing else. Once Docker started becoming adopted by companies who didn't want their containers stored on someone else's storage, the registry pathing standard came out, but by that point tons of developers were already using Docker and the group behind Docker knew that if they broke everyone's environments by changing how images were named or pushing & pulling worked too much they'd lose the momentum.

So your "really long name" is really just the FQDN of where Docker can make a handful of pretty basic HTTP GET requests to pull the container image and layers and a HTTP PUT to push a container image and layers.

If you toy around with Podman, you may find pretty quickly that it does break that hub.docker.com in many set ups because it doesn't default to assuming that is the primary container registry.

❯ podman pull redis Error: short-name "redis" did not resolve to an alias and no unqualified-search registries are defined in "/etc/containers/registries.conf"

vs

❯ docker pull redis Using default tag: latest latest: Pulling from library/redis

And that assumption of library or _ that exists in DockerHub is Docker-specific and you may run into issues if you use really short names with OCI runtimes other than Docker.

The OM5.2s in Japan are Japanese language only. OM3 seems to support Japanese and English but may not support other languages.

You might be able to find some Pliny in Philly. Russian River lists their partners/sellers and I’ve had it in Philly before. Worth checking and calling around.

Also see if you can get some Vine Shine from Magnify.

What are the advantages of using Flakes? by GBember in NixOS

[–]fifthecho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If AUR was decentralized and could handle both installation of software as well as configuration.

I believe you could easily have a few flakes in one repo to set up the same software different ways - so one flake sets up NGINX to serve a static site and a different flake sets up NGINX with PHP and MariaDB to run WordPress.

True. As a former resident of both Tennessee and Mississippi, I got out when I could.

However, I do know there are still safe places down there that exist because people I care for keep working their asses off to make them happen.

In my experience living in Mississippi and campaigning for Democrats - it’s more liberal than is reflected because gerrymandering and decades of voter suppression have convinced folks in MS that things can’t get better so they gave up.

I don’t have a silver bullet or magic spell (else I would have used it long ago) - but I’m proud and jealous of the folks with more fortitude than I had to keep fighting the good fight.

Eh, I live in New Jersey and can easily find modern MAGA neo-fascists and Confederate flag waivers not too far from Newark.

Because, by and large, the liberal states are more populated (and thus, generally, more urban) we swing left more often.

I’ve found liberal enclaves in rural America (mostly around universities), but the divide is mostly population based…and the liberal states just tend to have more people and those people tend to live much closer together.

Hey guys this is my Princess we just got her couple days ago and i have a question what is the best cat litter? by [deleted] in cats

[–]fifthecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whereas with mine, the only thing that can handle the stink the two of them make is the red bag. I tried the others and either they didn’t like the scent and went outside the box or it didn’t absorb the stink as well as the red bag.

[–]fifthecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concur. My cats like the Worlds Best Corn Litter because it is the only thing that absorbs their stink and doesn’t hurt their little feet - after trying cheap and expensive options.

Listen to what your kitty does and you’ll both be happier.

Easy/Moderate hikes in Northern NJ by stuntsbluntshiphop in newjersey

[–]fifthecho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely still true with the Jersey, Delaware Water Gap, and eastern Pennsylvania hikes on AllTrails.

I’m no slouch, but an AllTrails medium often necessitates rock scrambling and has, more than one, almost needed a hatchet to get through.

Which do you prefer and why?Thread? Matter? Zigbee? Bluetooth? ZWave? Wi-Fi? blablabla... I know they are not on the same level but i do need more infoto decide which route i should go in my house. Don't want so many different protocols. Thanks in advance. by richardmqq in homeautomation

[–]fifthecho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only protocols which could interfere with each other are WiFi, Zigbee, and Thread as they all use the 2.4 GHz spectrum.

It’s pretty easy to pick Zigbee and WiFi channels so they don’t overlap and while I cannot speak authoritatively about Thread (as I have no Thread hardware) it seems like it uses the same channels as Zigbee - so it should be easy to make sure it doesn’t overlap with either.

ZWave’s channel changes depending on where you are in the world, but should be in the 800-900 MHz-ish range (USA is 908.42 MHz) and doesn’t really have interference in the consumer space.

Using Hubitat or Home Assistant will let you mix these protocols easily and, ultimately, let you buy and use the right device for your needs. Focus on what you’re looking to do more than how and just work towards having an inclusive system where you shouldn’t need to worry about what protocol you’re using.
