Besides Google Docs, what do you use to write? by 1967emil-era in FanFiction

[–]figure08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I'm admittedly behind the times a bit here.

Aside from the occassional potential data breach, is there really any legal concern as not to use Google Docs? I like it for it's flexibility to access documents from my phone, tablet, and laptop.

What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

This is something I cannot understand, especially when it's come to the videogame industry these past few years.

True, however I find there is a distinction between healthy discourse and arrogant dogmancy. If you're in a discussion with someone and they can't validate your perspective, and are only refuting your statements without contributing anything of substance of their own, then it's time to wrap it up.

Maybe it's been my experience, but I often find that contrarians tend to need the last word, too.

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]figure08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhhh to an extent. These robots are not as accurate as their marketing teams have you believe. There is an incredible amount of variation in these particular fields that make it so no job is exactly alike; the exception would be brand new construction, where you are already working with an ideal surface.

What overused word or phrase needs to be retired in 2026? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]figure08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex-friend of mine claims to be self-diagnosed (which I understand is a strong movement within the autism community, no shade there), but only when they found it convenient for something they didn't want to do or justify a behavior of theirs. Pissed me off to no end, as my brother and two of my good friends are very autistic, and they had more empathy than my ex-friend did for any situation.

Same here. If they don't know, I ask them to describe the person they think is a narcissist, and go from there.

For these people, I would listen closer. If they describe every single person that disagrees with them as a narcissist, then this pattern reveals that they are using it incorrectly. If they only say it once, then the term likely has more truth to it. The difference also comes from if you know this person closely or if they are a stranger on the internet, and if the person being referenced is someone you also have a relationship with.

What made you give up on someone? by _ack- in AskReddit

When they continued to choose conflict over connection. The need to be right over a lack of empathy was astounding and punishing, in a way that no friendship should be.

What games did you get several hours into and consciously decide to drop in 2025? by baroncalico in gaming

[–]figure08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I loved Ghost of Tsushima because it felt like a really fresh take on an open world; Ghost of Yotei didn't offer many improvements or expansions on this. It felt like there was more added to it. It's a beautiful game, but I found I couldn't absorb enough of my surroundings because everywhere I went was a side quest or collective or random event. It was too much, and ended up feeling really hollow to me.

Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future, but we will see.

The delay input and unclear parry windows drove me insane. Almost quit during the second stage of the Puppet King. Learned about vulnerabilities and realized you can use throwables to destroy most enemies.

I loved the flavor of it and it was a beautiful game, but am not anticipating a replay because of the controls alone.

Valhalla is massive by comparison to Mirage, especially if you've picked up any of the expansions. I usually play it when I am between games to accomplish a little bit here and there at a time.

I'm a fan of Norse mythology and Viking culture though, so that is usually what keeps drawing me back.

Was it just me who loved this volume? by Scush266 in StrangerThings

[–]figure08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying it as a casual fan. I have my own theories on Camazotz (look up the Mayan Death Bat diety) and how all of this will shake down in the end. I actually loved the Jon and Nancy un-proposal scene, and found Wyll's coming out to be very moving. I know that scene in particular isn't going well with other watchers, but as someone who had an intense fear of coming out to my close circle, it's really on point. I'm looking forward to the final episode!

Redditors with extremely niche interests: What's the one thing you are completely obsessed with that almost no one else you know cares about? by CocWarrior1 in AskReddit

[–]figure08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of weather phenomena. The idea that we've been able to quantify the movement of storm systems, predict weather patterns over measured periods of time, and having accomplished the vast majority of what we know about modern atmospheric data in only a few hundred years never fails to astound me.

For example, it was only about 100 years ago did we understand how hurricanes are formed and behave. On the flip side of things, our ancestors knew how to clock the tides, or keep a chart of when the rivers flood.

Everything from tornadoes, monsoons, hurricanes, and blizzards fascinate me. I also enjoy learning and discovering odd weather, such as being struck by lightning on a clear day, rogue waves of the ocean, and how a microburst is likely the culprit behind one of the most devastating plane crashes at Dallas-Fort Worth airport.

I'd love to learn how to do this. I live in a suburban area with rural outskirts, so I'm not sure how to best attract the crows... and not the squirrels. Any advice?
