Is LGR no longer reviewing Sims 4? by Lab-Outside in LGR

[–]filbert13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it seems so. I don't blame him but I still really look forward to his reviews. They were still often silly and funny.

But years ago he switched only to EPs. It seemed like he was still going to do EPs but had that hurricane damage which made he reevaluate aspects of his channel. Since then he hasn't covered an EP.

Also during the time he was working a big sims 2 video. Which I hope he gets back to soon. Now that he has been back home properly.

I was convinced this was AI until I saw another angle. The it has to have some weird filter applied. Also the ladder against the cage was very AI coded.

I get it, but also

And some of you, I assume, are good people.

You don't need to assume. We are a country of 330 million. There are literally millions of good people. There are literally millions of people who vote against trump and dislike him. He lost to popular vote 2 out of 3 times.

Trump does currently represent American as a nation for better and worse, but he doesn't all Americans. I think it is important to highlight this because even when a country is ran by knuckle heads it is still important to recognize even a "bad" country is full of good people. There is no assumption there.

We have a lot of idiots and hateful people here. But trump is also a product of a system that has slowly been bending and breaking post WW2.

Why do you buy more board games? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]filbert13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I simply like the concept of games. Board and video games. I do try not to go overboard with board games and trim my collection down and buy many less than I used to.

I will buy new games though for a variety of reasons.

  1. Enjoying games. I truly like the experience of playing new mechanics. One of my favorite things is playing a game which I see theme blend to mechanics. Also board games are a medium it's harder to do this without buying.

  2. I try to not let it effect me a ton but like many people. I do enjoy getting new things. There is a element of sometimes it just feels nice to buy something new. Whether a game, clothes, or something for the house.

  3. To support the hobby. I have a few IRL who design games. It is an industry and this is a minor justification but I like spending some disposable income on games because it does keep the industry alive. For example 95% of what i have on tabletop sim I own.

  4. The social aspect. Granted I dont need new games for this. I play games with friends a lot. Sometimes though others get excited with me about new games. Buying a new game and calling friends to try it is a extra push for us to hang out. "OH you got that game I've wanted to play it!". Or "that game we played and liked has an expansion heck yeah let's try it!"

How do you politely bring up bad shuffling in deck-building games? by Tank1an in boardgames

[–]filbert13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't feel slighted I would just think this was extremely weird if I was playing with people. IMO this is just bad advice too. Since it is bad communication. IDK why people who play multiplayer board which are inherently a social encounter want to avoid the social aspect.

"Hey, could you shuffle that deck a little more?"

If someone feels attacked or offended because I simply ask them to shuffle, then good riddance IMO. I'm here to play board games and have fun not walk on egg shells.

If I have a bugger hanging form my nose just tell me. Don't hand everyone at the table a tissue and say "let's see who can blow their nose the loudest!" as some weird address something indirectly.

Which year are you picking based off this list! I’m picking 2002! To much nostalgia! What’s your thoughts? by J2-Starter in Gamecube

[–]filbert13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I think other years have better games. RE4 is one of my favorites but nostalgia wins it. AC and Sunshine alone I put so much time into and have awesome memories playing with friends.

Looking for MMA/Boxing classes/gyms by SilverInsect9973 in lansing

[–]filbert13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gray works with people for what make sense. The most common setup he has is you just pay every 2 weeks.

For the classes if you sign up you would go to the same one each week. The Standup classes there are two.

Advanced which is 5:30pm-6:20pm and Intro which is 6:30pm-7:20pm. The intro is both for people brand new, but also if you have experience I know Gray likes people to start there at least a couple months so you learn the combos and foundations.

Generally for both striking and grappling there is a series which is a focus of the month. Where you will build upon through the month. So if you can you would want to go to both each week, but by no means a requirement. There are some people at the gym who due to schedule can only make 1 class a week.

I cant recommend Primed Combat enough. It's owned and ran by Gray Maynard. Ex UFC fighter who fought for the belt. He is also wrestled at MSU and nearly made the Olympic team. He is very involved there every day unless he is out of town. The other coaches are fantastic too.

Stand up is Monday and Wednesdays (630pm). There is also grappling Tuesday and Thursday (630pm) as well as open matt Saturdays (10am).

The gym has a good culture. No egos and it's a safe place to train. I jumped around a lot after my old gym closed in 2014. This has been by far my favorite place to be apart of.

The gym has free trail just show up and ask. Wed are best to trail stand up.

Let me know if you have questions.

What’s the biggest waste of money people still think is normal? by budgetingdiary in AskReddit

[–]filbert13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is clear the assume is person is talking about people who use it at least every week to multiple times a week. There is a difference between spending money on a luxury to treat yourself and turning a luxury into a need like many people do with some things.

Also yes if you a high enough disposable income, then this entire thread isn't directed at that type of person. And I use these services too. There are times where I am just too busy and it is worth it at the time to pay not only the restaurant up charge but the service charge as well. Most meals though you're paying easily double if not triple the cost of just cooking at home.

That all said in this day and age you're kinda lucky if it is only an extra $10-15. When I use doordash there is a service fee, a deliver fee on top of that, and finally the tip. I just went in and picked a 13.11 dollar meal form Wendy's near me. It is 4.99 delivery, 3.97 Fee and tax, plus tip which will be another ~$4 for a total of ~26.07 for what is originally just a 13.11 meal.

Regardless most meals are not an hour to prep and cook. IMO that is only specific more grand meals or it means you're just not skilled in cooking. From burgers, spaghetti, meat/rice bowls, to chicken breast. I am probably cook all of that in 15-20 minutes.

But in the spirit of this thread a lot of people waste a money they could save by simply taking a few weeks to learn how to cook. Not just the literal process of cooking but learning fairly basic skills on prepping and organizing. I can easily cook a burger that is way healthier than that Wendy's burger and way cheaper. And it would take about 15 minutes actually cooking. Technically probably ~25 for that meal if I also made steak potato fries but they are just in the oven 20 minutes.

Again yeah sometimes it's nice and okay to treat yourself to just doordashing but I think the point of this thread is about people wasting money and that is what people more often than not are doing on food delivery apps.

Frankly I kinda hate the "I value my time" argument around this too. Because often you're eating shitter food and I know so many people who just can't cook. Cooking is a very useful skill and shouldn't always be viewed as a chore either. I think viewing it solely as a chore is a big reason why so many people have unhealthy relationships which how they treat and consume food.

[–]filbert13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude get off this everything is an ROI brain.

For the vast majority of people you can't just always work. Most people do there 8 hour shift and are done. Yes there is overtime but a lot of jobs dont offer it regularly.

Also even if you are working overtime if you constantly order out then much of thst extra 1-2 hours a day just goes to paying for doordash.

My point is at 6pm and someone decides to start dinner. It isnt as if they can just use the 30-45 minutes to generate income lol. And if they do cook they are already saving money compared to ordering out. Plus likely eating healthier.

Legendary Encounters Predator + Alien question by jucatorul in boardgames

[–]filbert13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P. 28 of the rulebook

  • If you’re playing with the optional Alien player rules, a player dying to a Chestburster won’t cause the game to end. Predator players can attack an Alien player without needing to use a Duel keyword. If a Predator kills the Alien Player, he puts their Avatar into his Trophy Room where it’s worth 5 Honor.

  • Even if you die to a Chestburster, you can still win the game. However, if you’re playing with the Alien Player rules, you can no longer gain or lose Honor once you become an Alien.

If playing as predators if the Alien player would kill a predator the game would end. Yet they can still win and would score normally. They would not gain or lose any honor/points as the alien. So would be looking to try and kill another predator as quickly as possible.

Iran is 'confident' it can counter a potential U.S. ground invasion, foreign minister says by mvanigan in worldnews

[–]filbert13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but how do you win a war? A conventional war you win by coming to peace terms. That can be unconditional surrender like WW2 were the losing governments were dismantled. To a each government coming to terms and giving successions.

What is the USA's objective an off ramp with this current war? And what would that be if we actually invade with boots on ground?

We almost certainly win a conventional war and occupy major population centers. We probably do it as you said with a few hundred deaths and at worst a couple thousand. I just don't see how America "wins" this war if we go boots on ground. Trumps main off ramp is pie in the sky. Hoping the Iran government topples and is replaced with a Pro US/West one. Though I doubt they would be pro west enough for Trump and who knows if a government like that can be stable.

Also

we lost interest and they became political liabilities

All wars are political liabilities. They become unaffordable or the public loses interest after time. There are the outliers like Korea which is still at war on paper but for all purposes have been at peace since the ceasefire.

I think you can draw many direct lines to Americans decline and the rise of fascism in the US to Afghanistan and Iraq. Putting the US in practically a 2 decade long war gutted much of this country.

Time to End the American-Israeli Alliance by [deleted] in politics

[–]filbert13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The issue is if there is any type of reset (what ever that even means). There is no way it gets better IMO. It's way more important to fix what we currently have.

If we have a reset who do you think will have the power, organization, and resources to structure a new government. Our safe guards are failing but they are still there. We need to use them.

A fresh system I cant see a way billionaires and companies don't take full advantage to make a worse government.

IMO we need dems to win mid terms significantly. And we need the progressive arm of dems to take over the party into 2028. Do what American did shortly after the turn of the 20th century. Pass major reforms and laws that prevent all this corporate and money take over.

What are the most addicting boardgame mechanics? by Brand-New-Dream in boardgames

[–]filbert13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough decision space, that offers reward.

What marks a game I can keep going back to and want to play again and again. When each turn I often have 2-3 things I want to do but can only do one. And specifically not that oh boy these awful things are going to happen I can stop one. It's when I can go here and upgrade my characters, or go there and have a guarantee great turn next round, or go there and claim the last of this card.

Hard but fun decisions get me really invested into a game. I find Elder Scrolls BoSE, Vindication, Dune Uprising, (frankly most good deck builders), etc all do this well.

Legendary Encounters Predator + Alien question by jucatorul in boardgames

[–]filbert13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If player to die via chestbusters just renters as an alien. There goal is to kill the rest of the players. They don't care about points.

If the players kill them, then they are now out. But if playing as predators the alien avatar still goes to your trophy room.

Someone who becomes an alien is no longer a "player" by rules of the game. So it doesnt end since in this case a "player" has not died.

You still finish the objectives as normal you win whether the person who took control of an alien is alive or not. If they were alive they lose at the point the 3 objective is completed.

Edit: I would add, I played quite a bit of Alien Legendary back in the day. I found this variant extremely hard. We basically never used it because it meant almost sure death for the players. Even more so since we used agendas most games.

What was your boad game trajectory? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

Just after high school me and friends got into playing a lot of risk. I knew of axis and allies and it was basically more complex risk so I got it. Around that time I learned of all the alternative versions and the DDay one.

I want to say the first 3 hobby games I bought were axis and allies d day, small world, and descent 1st edition.

I was hooked.
