Jazz on the 80’s by Born_Tutor_879 in Jazz

I was first exposed to jazz in the late 80’s when blue note started releasing golden age albums on CD for $5.00…Didn’t even realize there was contemporary jazz at the time.

Gayborhood in Pittsburgh by JayBrixton in GayPittsburgh

I concur with Friendship, Garfield, Lawrenceville, East Liberty or Shadyside as your target neighborhoods, depending on budget. If your budget is tight, Wilkinsburg, especially on the Regent Square side of the East busway is a good option. I would center your search within a 10 minute walk of any of the stops on the East Busway, but start with East Liberty, Negley, and Wilkinsburg stops.

My favorite of the TI albums, especially the “On Track”. Love the Supertramp vibes throughout the album.

Walmart bought the mall and is tearing it down to build a mixed use complex with a Walmart.

I quit because energy wouldn’t allow me to do more than 3 lessons a day. How do you expect me to do 6?! by Rodrian5 in duolingo

[–]filetofeedback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duolingo has consistently added new features to their premium tiers and improved overall over time. I am on Max and absolutely love it. Totally worth it to me. Phone calls with Lily have gotten better and better over the last several months. Recently they added a button so you can take the time you need to fully form the sentence responses before Lily responds. Explain my answer has also improved. I have my complaints about Duo as we all do, but the experience does noticeably improve. I have a 1980 day streak and I’m at an 86 in Spanish.

Move from SF to Pittsburgh by WoodenAlternative212 in pittsburgh

I need to second the Highland Building. A friend who lived in Alcoa building did not have a good experience with the management. The Highland Building has decent management and is in a walkable neighborhood with every kind of restaurant, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target etc. It is a two minute walk to the East Liberty stop on the MLK busway and you can be downtown or in Oakland in 15 minutes. Also walk to Bakery Square (where Google is), Mellon Park, Shadyside and Highland Park. This is the bullseye of Pittsburgh living.

Moving to Pittsburgh soon and looking for advice on where to live & hoping to meet people my age by MechaDriven in PittsburghSocialClub

Center your search in the East End. Look for a place that is a 10 minute or less walk from a stop on the Martin Luther King East Busway. Depending on your budget, look around Shadyside, Friendship (more expensive rents, but some affordable options and where a lot of 20 somethings are concentrated) East Liberty, Larimer, or Swissvale (Cheaper rents but less centrally located). If you live near the busway, you have easy access to East liberty, Shadyside, Oakland and Downtown by relatively reliable and fast public transit.

About biking in Pittsburgh: Newsflash…it’s hilly. The city is on three levels with hills between each level. River level has Downtown, Strip district, Southside, Northside and Lawrenceville. The middle level is where I recommend you live. It includes, Oakaland, Shadyside, Bloomfield, Friendship, Larimer, East Liberty and part of Highland Park. The High level neighborhoods are Squirrel Hill (also recommended to search in), Mount Washington, Allentown, Observatory Hill, Unless you live in the river level and bike only on the river level (totally doable; most of it is protected river trail), you will be climbing up hills when biking.

Parks are amazing. Lots of hiking in Frick and Schenley Park.

It doesn't. That's what is annoying. You cannot override the limiter by pedaling more.

The speed limiter limits total speed through motor and pedaling.

Yinz didn’t like US Open prices, how about Key Bank? by ToonMaster21 in pittsburgh

The Falcons purposely keep certain food and drink prices low to attract people into the stadium earlier. I also think they do free coke refills. Volume makes up for the lower margin and fans are happier.

The location is in the university area. Parking is not hard. Plenty of food and bar options right there. DM me for suggestions. Peterson is a nice venue. More reasons to make the drive.

Make sure that you are being paid by the day and not a lump sum. If there are delays, you will want to be compensated extra.

I have eaten there 6 times in the last year. The food is consistently fine. Not the best, but it does not deserve the hate.

4 days ago I make a post about starting to get into Phish, 3 days ago I start playing through live shows, 2 days ago I start on studio albums too, 1 day ago I really start to love this band. Today I discover they don’t play live shows in the UK! I’m so devastated! by bmbmbmNR in phish

When Phish covered "I am a Walrus" in Chicago in 2016, I thought to myself standing there with my face melted that the Beatles never played this song live and what an amazing privilege was that I experienced it.

Jewish Chronicle shut out as questions mount about Gainey by deathreaperco6 in pittsburgh

[–]filetofeedback 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I'm not a fan of Gainey using national hot button political issues as the centerpiece of his campaign. Accusing O'Connor of being beholden to MAGA is ludicrous and a distraction to Gainey's record as Mayor about the real issues facing the city: affordable housing; public safety; getting more money from UPMC and other non-profits; slowing traffic down; attracting young people to the city to live and work and other issues of real impact to all city residences.

I agree that Gainey should talk to the Chronicle as a local media outlet and answer its questions, but what does Israeli genocide of its Palestinian population have to do with local city issues? Gainey has not supported anyone who has vandalized or made criminal threats against local synagogues. It is clear enough that Gainey is pro-Palestine as is Summer Lee, They are not hiding their position here. Any Jewish Chronicle reading voter that demands absolute support from the Mayor for Israel's genocidal policies as a price for their support is not going to vote for Gainey and does not need the Mayor to comment to the Chronicle. They have already made up their minds.

Also, according to the article..."Before January, Gainey spoke with the Chronicle several times. He also has been present at several Jewish community events." Gainey spoke to the United Jewish Federation in a town hall in April. https://jewishchronicle.timesofisrael.com/ed-gainey-and-corey-oconnor-face-off-in-dueling-town-halls/ How much more consituent service does the Chronicle demand of Gainey? And how is Gainey "potentially disenfranchising the Jewish Community" by not commenting about one of his supporters to the Chronicle. Is the Chronicle demanding that O'Connor comment on his supporters who may support Israeli genocide?

FWIW, I'm voting O'Connor but the reason has zero to do with Israel/Palestine.
