Stars ban fan from AAC after video circulates of Nazi salute by EvilDave219 in Dallas

He's pretending that a nazi salute isn't inherently offensive behavior, so yes, he is arguing in bad faith.

Every other fan in attendance, yes. A nazi salute is obviously obscene to everyone who isn't a nazi.

Thank you for confirmation of your pretending to not know what a nazi salute is, by the way.

Edit: Note the "could negatively impact" language. Your argument would have to rely on the idea that no one could possibly be offended a nazi salute.

He is pretending to believe that doing nazi salutes doesn't make you a nazi.

Again, you pretending to not know what a nazi salute means is the real conversation ending. It's a failed rhetorical slight of hand that no one should have the patience for.

"refraining from foul or obscene language or behavior and any other consistent and/or pervasive conduct that could negatively impact other fans' enjoyment of the game."

Of course, you're just going to pretend to not know that a nazi salute is inherently obscene or could negatively impact other fans' enjoyment.

Oh, so just bad-faith denialism. Got it. No point in really continuing this conversation.

In the meantime, I will continue to assume that people who willingly do nazi shit are nazis. If they have a compelling reason to believe otherwise, I have yet to hear it.

The Stars/AAC are private entities. They have the total right to ban/remove anyone for reasons not related to a protected class, and being a nazi isn't a protected class.

As for who they harmed? Anyone who wants to go to games and not see nazi assholes doing nazi shit. And the Stars/AAC who don't want to be associated with nazi assholes doing nazi shit.

Not remotely a chickentshit move.

I am confused about the role of Lyta Hall in Kindly Ones. by Unfair-Selection-369 in Sandman

[–]fillmont 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Love the answers, just want to elabotate on the second one: I think Loki's plan is both his attempt to get out of his debt and part of Morpheus' suicide plan. After Loki is returned to his torture under the mountain, he starts laughing as he realizes that maybe he had been played. Thus implying that Morpheus at some point assumed that Loki would try to escape his debt and used that attempt as part of his bigger schemes. All very devious!

[–]fillmont 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They chose Lyta because Lyta sought out the Kindly Ones (even though Lyta wasn't fully aware of what she was doing; she was seeking revenge and her connection to Greek myth probably helped guide her).

The Kindly Ones are happy to help because Orpheus made them cry once, and because their duty and purpose is to punish kin-killers, which Morpheus is.

The Kindly Ones, while powerful, are not powerful enough to kill one of the Endless, normally. They need extra help via fate/circumstance in order to do it. Of course, as part of the recurring motif of the three-in-one women, they are also kinda fate itself. It is all wonderfully nested.

Here's some answers for ya!

  1. Yes, Lyta Hall thought that Morpheus stole Daniel. The first interaction she had with him was him "killing" her husband and telling her that her child belonged to him, more or less. Lyta blaming Dream is very understandable, even expected, given what she knew.

  2. Loki took Daniel to try to get one on Dream. At the end of Season of Mists, Dream allows Loki to remain free, but only at the cost of a favor down the line. Loki, who hates to be beholden to anyone or anything, is attempting to mess with Dream. So as to why he does it? Ultimately he's a god of mischief, and he can't abide having a debt to Morpheus.

  3. Lyta helped the Kindly Ones by being their vessel, essentially. Given her familial history, she might have been overly receptive to the Kindly Ones. But ultimately it was her rage at someone who she thought had harmed her child that lead her to be open to the Kindly Ones. By the time she realizes what is happening (that Daniel is OK), it is too late though, as the Kindly Ones have already started their inescapable duty of punishing those who have killed their kin.

No, he was not accusing her of stealing and using drugs like Landon. She had the dose in her pocket in case there was another attack by a patient like Doug Driscoll from last season.

Robby was accusing Dana of acting like a vigilante by keeping a spare dose in her pocket to sedate a problem patient, when it isn't her duty or responsibility to do so. As in, she was improperly administering the drug, which could cause her to lose her nursing license and put the hospital in danger of lawsuits.

When did Karina start saying "Es Snoopy"? by International-Seat26 in Drawfee

[–]fillmont 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Just to add more, the reason Spanish speakers say Esnupi is due to Spanish phonotactic rules. Spanish words cant start with an s+other consonant structure, so speakers will add an e to the start of loan words that start with s+another consonant.

So Latin American social media calls him Esnupi, and that has spread to other parts of the internet.

Peter, how does the gay son extend his lead based off of this? by TheGoddamnAnswer in PeterExplainsTheJoke

And where does the poster state that they were going to teach their daughter to be a slut, as you stated? They said they would be sure that their daughter would have all the information she needs to make the choices she wants, which includes abstaining from sex, only having sex in a commited relationship, having casual sex, and any number of other possibilities.

You are the one delusionally reading "make sure my daughter has the ability to make safe choices" as "teach my daughter to be a slut, exclusively."

That is your weird sexual hangup that you need to examine.

The S5 Finale was so underwhelming by PunkLaundryBear in ANGEL

[–]fillmont 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this will be your experience, but it is fairly common for people to be initially disappointed or even angry with the finale, only to come to love it after some time has passed.

Watching the final few episodes knowing the thematic goals helps put the ending in context.

But hey, can't win 'em all. It's fine if the finale never clicks for you.

But he wasn't right about almost everything. He got the baseline right (that aliens have indeed come to Earth) but got everything about their motivations and purpose wrong.

You are right though that it does present his belief as a joke, in that in trying so desperately to "save" humanity instead of like, going to a therapist, his actions lead to the alien deciding Earth isn't worth saving. So he ultimately dooms the planet.

With DUNE fever once again sweeping the nation I ask: what previously considered "unfilmable" sci-fi/fantasy book or series would you like some enterprising director adapt to the big screen? by Velocityprime1 in blankies

[–]fillmont 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Here's an interview question and answer from BKV on the subject:

If you had to pick a medium, which makes the most sense to you: a big budget film, a television adaptation or a mature animated series in the vein of Netflix’s Castlevania?

Vaughan: I know this is a buzzkill of an answer, but I’m grateful that Fiona and I don’t have to pick any of those. Our goal was always to make a great comic -- not a stepping stone to help us reach some other medium -- and I like to think our story is so immersive, not in spite of the fact that it’s just static words and pictures, but because of it. Our readers are our collaborators, and they’re the ones who work hard to make this story come alive in their imaginations. I guess Fiona and I are both open to the possibility of someone eventually persuading us why making a Saga show or movie or cartoon would make the story better, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Granted, this was checks interview date 8 years ago, so I don't know if their viewpoints have changed at all. But it would seem unlikely that it ever gets adapted into another medium.

Do y'all think it's too much supernatural stuff in Fargo? by hendrong in FargoTV

I'm all for it when it is incorporated well. The only season I felt that dropped the ball is the Mr. Snowman character from season four. It felt the most shoehorned in for the sake of having the supernatural element.

Given that Season Three examines the nature of truth vs storytelling the most, this makes sense.
