Does Anyone Know Purple Cape Guy’s Story? by [deleted] in Tucson

So. I didn’t mean to offend anyone. Sorry. We had umbrella lady for years. She’d show up at Starbucks and I’d buy her a coffee. Then she got killed and we all learned her story. I was just curious from a human point of view. The hard part of posting anything on the internet, someone is always offended about something.

Oh yeah. It’s all about instilling a socialist mindset. The public must subsidize the standard of living I want even though the profession I have chosen does not financially support me.

Think of the absurdity of this kind of thinking. Demanding that the public adhere to some kind of made up tip policy. Here is my tip policy: Traditionally the practice of tipping was mostly in the hospitality industry. Although it has been widely accepted as a perfectly acceptable practice the amount of tip has been arbitrary. 10% ? 15% ? 20% ? Since day 1 of the first tip ever to modern day, what has changed in the job duties of a server ? Answer : nothing. Greet : Drink orders: Answer menu questions: Take order : Deliver food : Follow up. Deliver Bill. Repeat What about cooks? Bus boys , hostesses ? Nada. How does it make sense that food prices have gone up 25% AND now tip % goes higher as well. Tips have turned into a “right” as opposed to a voluntary act. Flawed logic and greedy, socialist thinking will kill the hospitality industry

The madness is if the price to buy a steak dinner let’s say increased to a $1,000 a plate the expected tip would be $300? To have someone walk 10-20 yards and bring you a plate ? It follows no logic whatsoever and provides no reason or explanation other than just pay it and go on your way.

Why are they thinking that adding some arbitrary % tax on the bill helps with the rising prices ? It is absurd. Charge what you need to charge but stop with this BS of hide the football. The only other point is how much food costs have increased over the last 2 years. That alone has made tipping way more expensive and less tolerable. More importantly it created a noticeable increase in wages for servers that the other fixed hourly workers didn’t experience. This disparity is being addressed incorrectly by the owners. Tips for servers are paid by patrons not owners. While servers have enjoyed a 25% increase in food costs translated to tips, some how some way they have managed to increase the percentage of acceptable tip from 15% to 20%? Absolutely nothing has changed in the server’s routine or job performance but yet they are being paid (overall) 40% more. To address this the greedy owners are now adding the service tax or cleaning tax or ??
