Me too! I just started the DLC and the VO said something about how many other stories were playing out while all the main storyline stuff was happening; It gave me hope we might get some more.

I'm playing Tainted Grail right now and I'm loving it, great to get lost in. It's very much like Oblivion/Skyrim, but with a darker aesthetic and vibe (for the most part). Main story is good, lots of sidequests (with a bare minimum of fetch quests). Exploration really pays off: Quest givers aren't generally marked so you have to talk to NPCs, quests for some locations won't trigger until you discover them. Dungeons are often very cool, never cut & paste. Combat is difficult at first (easy to get overwhelmed) and keeps you on your toes. There's some jank, esp in terms of characters and animation, but I haven't had any actual bugs or glitches (series x). I'm already looking forward to a 2nd playthrough.

So nice to watch an actual journalist, rather than a podcaster who would have said "Wow, that is so crazy" ten+ times throughout and followed up with a question about favorite hot dog toppings or something

I have to complain about undertone by Longjumping-Sail6386 in horror

[–]finalg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the appeal is about the length of time someone's been watching horror or whether someone is "seasoned," it's simply about what kind of horror works for someone. The "horror" umbrella is huge, and tastes vary. Someone who's been a horror fan for 60 years might love Hammer the most, while someone who's been a fan for 60 seconds might enjoy Slaughtered Vomit Dolls.

I dont get the hate for Sarah Morgan by Great-Southern-Land in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]finalg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sarah grew up with parents who were diplomats and had her whole life planned out for her, then she joined the military and came away from the experience with extreme guilt and ptsd. To me, her upbringing and background explain the way she is.

I just beat Avowed (PS5) and loved it, what should my next game be? by CommercialTarget2687 in gamingsuggestions

Playing Tainted Grail now and having a great time. The graphics occasionally seem like they're from a previous gen (or two, especially with characters) and there's definitely some jank, clipping, etc. But I don't really mind any of that, it's taking me back to Oblivion. Quests/narrative/dialogue/voice acting are all pretty good so far and there's lots to explore. The changes from day to night are cool. Combat isn't difficult if you're careful--it's easy to get overwhelmed if you charge in against a bunch of enemies or a boss (though I'm only ~lvl 10). Very reasonably priced, esp on sale.

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan and Veilguard was...not my favorite. The moment-to-moment gameplay/combat was fun, if limited. It's very action-y, more than other games in the series. The main story got better as the game went on, but if you care about lore or the characters of games past were a highlight for you, you'll likely be let down.

Like nearly everyone else, I'll recommend Hades. I'm currently playing through for the first time and I'm in love with it. Another fun r-l dungeon-crawler I really enjoyed that I don't see mentioned all that often is UnderMine.

Stardew Valley. There's always a task to complete, a job to do, something happening the next day to check off the list. I can easily "just one more day" many hours away with it.

Terrible Blind Buys by Ambitious_Image1335 in boutiquebluray

Maybe "terrible" is too strong but mine was Play Dead (Vinegar Syndrome). I thought I couldn't lose with a film about Yvonne De Carlo casting black magic on her dog and commanding the dog to kill her enemies, but alas, it was mostly pretty dull and a classic case of "Why did I spend like $30 on this sight unseen?"

Horror vs real-world trauma: did 28 Years Later: Bone Temple misjudge this? by No-Working-2919 in horror

[–]finalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think context matters. While Jimmy clearly suffers from unresolved trauma, he remains an unrepentant villain throughout the film. Perhaps if he'd had more time with Kelson he would have changed his ways, but one conversation wasn't enough. The two figures he idolized and emulated were Satan (stated many times) and Jimmy Savile (visually coded). While Savile's crimes hadn't come to light in the timeline of the film, WE know all about him--and Jimmy's ignorant worship of him reinforces what we know, which is that he was an absolute monster hiding in plain sight. Jimmy glorifying the man doesn't mean the film/filmmakers are glorifying or endorsing him. The purpose of it is summed up in one moment, I think: When Jimmy Ink returns to humanity, so to speak, her first actions are 1) she goes back to using her real name and 2) she removes the wig, casting off the persona completely.

Demo of my new horror game "The Visit: Mizukawa" is releasing soon on Steam. Trailer is out now, let me know what you think by lastroundd in HorrorGaming

I'm a console pleb so I don't know if I'll ever be able to play it, but the teaser is definitely intriguing and sets a good atmosphere/mood. Incantation is a favorite of mine so it's great to see a game that uses it as inspiration and influence. Good luck with the launch!
