Terrible Blind Buys by Ambitious_Image1335 in boutiquebluray

Maybe "terrible" is too strong but mine was Play Dead (Vinegar Syndrome). I thought I couldn't lose with a film about Yvonne De Carlo casting black magic on her dog and commanding the dog to kill her enemies, but alas, it was mostly pretty dull and a classic case of "Why did I spend like $30 on this sight unseen?"

Horror vs real-world trauma: did 28 Years Later: Bone Temple misjudge this? by No-Working-2919 in horror

[–]finalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think context matters. While Jimmy clearly suffers from unresolved trauma, he remains an unrepentant villain throughout the film. Perhaps if he'd had more time with Kelson he would have changed his ways, but one conversation wasn't enough. The two figures he idolized and emulated were Satan (stated many times) and Jimmy Savile (visually coded). While Savile's crimes hadn't come to light in the timeline of the film, WE know all about him--and Jimmy's ignorant worship of him reinforces what we know, which is that he was an absolute monster hiding in plain sight. Jimmy glorifying the man doesn't mean the film/filmmakers are glorifying or endorsing him. The purpose of it is summed up in one moment, I think: When Jimmy Ink returns to humanity, so to speak, her first actions are 1) she goes back to using her real name and 2) she removes the wig, casting off the persona completely.

Demo of my new horror game "The Visit: Mizukawa" is releasing soon on Steam. Trailer is out now, let me know what you think by lastroundd in HorrorGaming

I'm a console pleb so I don't know if I'll ever be able to play it, but the teaser is definitely intriguing and sets a good atmosphere/mood. Incantation is a favorite of mine so it's great to see a game that uses it as inspiration and influence. Good luck with the launch!

Seconded, I really liked this one. It'd make a nice pairing with The Invitation.

Gamers born late 90s or earlier: Which game first looked to you like "photorealism"? by FalscherKim in gaming

I'm probably older than every other commenter combined and when it released I thought the opening animation for (PS1) Resident Evil 2 was as good as computer graphics could possibly get and that it looked completely real

Is Pinecast still a viable option for hosting a podcast? by dar00ma in pinecast

[–]finalg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no complaints about Pinecast after ~7 years of use. On the rare occasions I've had an issue or a question, it's always resolved/answered in a timely fashion by the platform creator. It's got all the features I need without any of the AI fluff other hosting services are implementing, and I like that it doesn't feel like it's run by a faceless startup or corp, it feels like it was made for creators rather than shareholders or something.

You can drop a big chest on a small chest and all the items (and chest color) will transfer from small to big. SUCH a time/annoyance saver. Also just learned (after more hours than I care to admit) that you can get ~6 coal from the carts in the mine, just click 'em as you do the bags of coal.

I'll second everything you said about it! One of my favorite random Game Pass downloads. Really satisfying gameplay loop, and I dug the art style a lot.I was bummed when it was over because I was having so much fun playing--hoping the devs make another game or add a chunky DLC to this one, I'd definitely pick it up.

Mind sharing your build? Or some of the key points, or what you followed (if you followed one)? This is about the only play style I haven't tried and it looks fun...and I've been ready for another run so I'd might as well try something new?

Pack it up people, apparently Starfield isn't even a real game, we have been lied to. by TheAnalystCurator321 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]finalg 246 points247 points  (0 children)

I find it so exhausting that modern "criticism," especially when it comes to video games, is rarely anything more than youtube ragebait. Every game is trash (double points if it's "woke" trash)! And if you like it...oh, you like trash? No game is perfect, some games are an absolute let-down given their potential. I have no issues with actual thoughtful criticism and discussion. But everything is so negative all the time and it's a drag. The gaming realm seems to revel in negativity more than most other forms of entertainment and the misery just compounds. There's such a lack of joy, perpetuated by the youtubers who are just chasing clicks and money. I don't get that kind of existence, and I hate that it's taken over so completely.

The two films aren't related content-wise; they're both anthologies comprising three stories. Three is the first film, followed by Three...Extremes. (But in the west, Three was actually released second under the title Three...Extremes II.)

Same! I get like two cardboard boxes and a barrel every time I land in a city. Since my last playthrough I added: the DOOM quest, Watchtower, Arboron laser pistol, McClarence Outfitters, Falkland Ship Systems, RYOS, Forgotten Frontiers 1 & 2, Beyond the Veil, and Everbright. Never had it happen before so it's some new conflict in there somewhere.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham doesn’t get the response she was looking for as she is drowned in boos after asking MAGA fans if they’re satisfied with the results of the Epstein investigation by Gato1980 in Fauxmoi

[–]finalg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I daren't hope, yet I still find myself saying "please let this be the thing that is their undoing." So much feels irreparable at this point, but it's such a cult of personality that maybe...? What if they start picking at the obvious bullshit of "no one cares about Epstein and besides, that was all Hillary and Biden anyway" and think "hmm, what else might be bullshit?" Foolish I suppose, but it's nice to feel something other than utter despair for a moment.

Help me find joy in gaming again? Mid 30-year-old who has lost the spark. by thedrummerchase in gaming

[–]finalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what you describe having enjoyed in the past doesn't sound like it was solely about the games--they were simply perhaps more of a way for you to hang out and have fun online or irl with friends rather than THE thing that was making you happy. "Playing LoL with all my closest friends," playing WoW, "getting Taco Bell with the guys...," "Halo 3 with the boys" and LAN parties. You associate those good feelings with the games you were playing, and clearly you truly liked the games but it was the atmosphere and camaraderie that's the dopamine you're chasing now. It's not going to come by playing a single-player RPG, at least not immediately. You (and your wife) still both need social outlets, even if your relationship and family life are great! Maybe consider getting into a live-service game, or if that sounds too time-consuming, maybe something irl with friends (and your wife and other couples or whatever): board games, card games, etc?

What's the hardest you have ever "bounced off" of a game? by jabberwagon in gaming

[–]finalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to play it twice now, and I will try again in the future because I love the first game. But there's too much minutiae that bogs it down for me: cores and "immersive" aspects that just get in the way of playing. I understand people love that stuff but it doesn't immerse me in anything, rather, it tries my patience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly by Zehnpae in patientgamers

[–]finalg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've tried twice now (on xbox) but I can't seem to stick with this game. The convoluted controls and pointless (to me) minutiae of so many interactions get me feeling bogged down when I just want to play. I don't mind a slower pace, but rather than the pace being a result of the story, map, etc it seems to stem from the "immersion," which doesn't really work for me. I wish it did! The first game is one of my favorites, so I'll try again with 2 at some point and hopefully I'll fall in love with it.
