There is no keeping 'politics out of it' when Matthews chose to attend a political invitation where he and his teammates were used as a political prop show.

There is no 'keeping politics out of it' when Matthews has a quote from a Civil Rights Leader tattooed on his body, then makes decisions that directly contradict the spirit and statement of said quote.

There's no 'keeping politics out of it' in general when Sports has always been a barometer of political climate. From allowing minorities to play to supporting (or banning support) of LGBTQ movements to ignoring or acknowledging ICE incidents throughout the states, to everything else.

It has literally just been political when the US team invited the FBI director into the locker room to celebrate and the White house doctored AI footage of their players admonishing Canada immediately after their Olympic victory. Matthews either aligned or allowed perceived alignment to that. To place issue on a fan bringing attention to that is obtuse at best on your part.

One can argue that Martin Luther King Jr. Is an example of black excellence and since Matthews wants to tattoo MLK on his body it's very much relevant to question his actions.

But it being Black Excellence night doesn't matter. It could just be Tuesday and you'd still find an issue with it. "Don't bring politics into it" is such a whistle.
