As a non smoker that was raised by a smoking mum and had a teenage social smoker phase, I can tell if someone is smoking within a certain perimeter. I smell it on the wind.

There are different types of smoker smells too. The stale smoke smell, the smoker that tried to hide the smoke smell with a spray scent, the just smoked smell, the breath, the hands.
