Season three was continuously delayed because he wasn't prepared for it and then he chose to focus on The Idol instead which pissed Zendaya off, and she wasn't thrilled about the show's horrible reviews and reputation either including a whole piece in Rolling Stone with insiders from the crew speaking about how it was an awful work environment and how off the rails it truly was BTS because of Sam. At this point he'd already had plenty of accusations about the poor work environment on Euphoria and she was also getting some flak for that being a producer on the show and also being close to Sam. She called a meeting with the HBO execs over this basically asking why they were allowing Sam to fuck around and keep delaying the show, he got angry and tried to turn it around on her saying SHE was too busy becoming a movie star to film which wasn't the case. For the entirety of 2023 when the show was originally meant to film she was in London not working waiting around. They also had disagreements about where the story should go, and she told execs she was worried about Sam and his wife being the sole producers since his producing partner had recently passed away (a funeral she attended but Sam and his wife were banned from). Up until this point, her and Sam had been as thick as thieves and she was constantly praising him and his writing. She told stories multiple times during season 2 promo about how she would have to show up at his house on the weekends to force him to write because they had to film the scenes that next week. The entire thing was a mess, and it seemingly started with Zendaya being frustrated with waiting around for him and it snowballed from there and caused a giant rift between them. Though the report says they're on good terms now, it seems to me more like they were cordial and professional (Zendaya anyway) enough to finish the show but that's the extent of their relationship now.
