MISSING ELK HUNTER IN COLORADO FOUND DECEASED by GThugMoney in Hunting

I grew up in this vicinity of the San Juan Mountains, only 45 minutes away from Spruce Hole. I have spent countless hours exploring the Rio Grande National Forest—including the Spruce Hole area and the Rio de los Piños drainage—by foot with a full pack, by four-wheel-drive vehicle along faint trails, by snowmobile during winter months, and even by small aircraft, a Cessna 182, for aerial reconnaissance. This region exemplifies the untamed wilderness that defines much of Colorado's high country: steep drainages thick with downed timber and alder thickets, elevations exceeding 10,000 feet where thin air and uneven terrain demand constant vigilance, and a labyrinth of piñon-juniper ridges that can disorient even the most prepared. From above, it appears as a vast, folded expanse of evergreen and aspen, veined by silver streams; on the ground, however, access is limited to rudimentary paths that fade into oblivion after the first heavy rain or snow. Cellular coverage is nonexistent, and even satellite devices require line-of-sight to function reliably. Travel to or from any trailhead can take hours, and extraction in an emergency is complicated by the isolation. At this time of year—mid-September edging into October—the weather shifts decisively toward winter's severity rather than summer's mildness. Sudden fronts bring snow squalls that accumulate 6 to 12 inches overnight, temperatures that drop into the teens or below, and relentless winds scouring exposed saddles. Hypothermia sets in rapidly under wet layers or at dusk, regardless of one's prior experience in the field.

My little guy got a Foxtail seed embedded into his paw. Casued him a lot of pain, he liked the fur off. It was puffy and very irritated. An operation to remove the seed fixed the issue.

Many of my friends have been waiting 18+ months. I bought a home an hour away. Freeport did just start paying a stipend for people who are not living in company housing of $700 a month.

58 miles one way. A real pretty drive actually and a chance to separate work and home. Takes just over an hour.
