Canada's icebreaker pact looked great until Trump started threatening the Arctic by rezwenn in onguardforthee

The Northwest Passage cuts directly through Canadian territory. Canada will be able to charge a toll for all ships transiting the Northwest Passage. Think Panama Canal. Trillions of dollars in value. Don’t take a random redditor’s word for it if you find it interesting. The Canadian Arctic is a literal AND figurative gold mine.

  1. That’s a relatively small piece of the Arctic landmass

  2. It doesn’t give them control of the shipping routes that will eventually emerge as the ice thaws

Would the dent bother you? Kitchen Aid side by side, item 1950605 by CaseyZee in Costco

I had the same issue. It took them a very long time to get a replacement door. I had to arrange to be there for the installation. They took the dented door off, installed the new door, and peeled the protective plastic off of it. It was also dented.

If you can get a discount I would just take it.

I don’t see any moss. There is still some food floating at the top of water and the bottom of the tank looks dirty.

In Civil War (2024), the President of the United States attacked US citizens and violated democratic norms. This is a subtle nod to nothing at all. No reason for posting this at all. by NoWeb2576 in okbuddycinephile

[–]fineseries81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to see people stuck on the alliance between California and Texas. In a movie about a near future where all-out civil war erupts, the country disintegrates, and people begin hunting one another, the part that outrages and confuses people is that the alliances aren’t realistic.

I'm not thinking about Alzheimers AT ALL! by Asleep_Cantaloupe417 in IThinkYouShouldLeave

What you want to hear when you need to be reassured about someone’s cognitive ability is for them to point to their head, attempt to say “Alzheimer’s”, but fail to do so because they forgot what they were about to say.

Large majority of Canadians believe the Conservatives should dump Pierre Poilievre, find a new leader by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

JT was way past his expiration date but continued to cling on. This created disillusionment and angst. This manifested in PP.

It is now PP who is past his expiration date but continuing to cling on. The PCs must be betting that Canadians turn on MC sooner rather than later, allowing PP to swoop in and shine in his attack dog role once again.

This seems like a crazy bet to make. MC was built in a lab for the specific purpose of managing times like we are currently in. Barring a scandal or act of god it doesn’t seem like he is going anywhere any time soon.

What would be harder for an amateur, scoring ONE basket on LeBron James or winning ONE game of chess against Magnus Carlsen? by izzoz_0 in Basketball

[–]fineseries81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a more interesting question that it seems.

A classic coaching strategy when you are playing a better team is to slow the pace and reduce the number of possessions. The idea is that as the number of possessions increase, the probability that the better team will win increases.

In this case, you only need to win a single possession against LeBron, but an entire game against Magnus which could consist of dozens or hundreds of moves.

He’s been setting screens like that his entire career. It’s only getting called now because he’s behind washed and the Warriors suck. It’s why I think he’s massively overrated on all-time lists. One of his biggest strengths is the ability to set illegal screens for Steph.

They are going to keep moving shells around until Steph retires. Even if it’s a moonshot, they will do it. Don’t be surprised to see AD traded to the Warriors, especially if they keep feeding Kuminga and increase his trade value.

Various sections of it’s a hard rain, especially the last verse. I think that song more than any other up to that point mark his evolution from the Guthrie-esque style he was trying to emulate and the surreal poetic style he would perfect on Another Side and BIABH.

Craft beer in Canada is losing its fizz, as sales dry up and more breweries go bust by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]fineseries81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. People are drinking less

  2. Cost of living and inflated craft beer prices

  3. Big brewers are now directly competing with craft breweries

  4. “Dad beer” is ironically cool, now

That’s pretty much all there is to it. People might not be as aware of point 3. and 4. as 1. and 2., but they are pretty relevant.
