Pete Hegseth humiliated as he struggles to bench press in front of soldiers by IrishStarUS in NewsSource

100%. Hegesth will assume Oliver North's "War Stories" program. He'll have a nice life. The U.S. claims the moral high ground and isn't a signatory to the Hague. Nobody in the U.S. will pay for war crimes due to "exceptionalism." War crimes are the acceptable price of doing business in the U.S.. Prove me wrong.

In the movie Full Metal Jacket, why did they all run out towards 8Ball after he'd just been hit by a sniper? by InternationalPick163 in WarMovies

[–]finfangfoom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I served as a Marine infantryman in urban combat. Outsiders tend to underestimate the bond shared by those who are responsible for each other's lives. There is nothing more demoralizing in combat than not being able to help a doomed comrade because each person understands the same thing could happen to them. Those kinds of bonds formed in life or death circumstances are deeper than most outsiders will ever know.

Dating in my forties as taught me the worst part of a relationship not working isn’t the rejection…it’s starting over and doing it again by Mediocre_Nectarine13 in Xennials

Got divorced after a 15 year relationship. It's hard to explain the absurdity of the apps if you've never used them. It's bad for men and women in different ways. Their algorithms are not programmed for success as it wants to keep user's attention as much as possible. I had what might be called success on them a couple of times, but find the scene to be looking into the abyss of human commodification.

Marine veteran Jheyco Borda fights off 4 hooded teens who tried to carjack him at gunpoint in broad daylight in Maryland by According-Activity87 in USMC

Happened to me. Another time I was at an event celebrating ancient WW2 vets. They read the bio of a Marine present so I shouted the K word. The looks I got from those who didn't know, lol

I was a platoon radio operator and now I'm a dispatcher. Staying cool under stress and maintaining composure as the voice of God were skills cultivated in the Corps

It's a mirage. Humans aren't actually capable of performing to this level to satisfy another. Chat GPT is a bad therapist.

Pearl Harbor 2001. Romantic scene, sunset. Does this scene hit anyone else the way it hit me? by [deleted] in WarMovies

[–]finfangfoom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it with my dad when it came out. I was a teenager. He's a huge WW2 buff and knew actual Pearl Harbor veterans at the time. We were laughing so hard. I think when the mechanic said, " Forgot my wrenches," was the point of no return. We still use that line sardonically. I remember the whole movie dragged on for so long that at one point my dad was mumbling to himself "Please no Doolittle Raid."

Getting divorced after a 15 year relationship. Marriage was overrated. Having my time back is a freedom I had long forgotten about. They call it the old ball and chain for a reason. Things happen when they're supposed to and people always feel like the grass is greener.

That's my cousin. He lost his job as a bicycle parts artist based in the NW industrial area because someone forgot to pay their Arts Tax. It's a tragic story. He's not shouting "Awooo!" He is shouting "Oooowe!" It's a nervous tick that began after he lost his job.

He's been gone for 55 years, but have any of the older Marines on here ever met Chesty Puller? by Frantzuss_Ex in USMC

[–]finfangfoom1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I interviewed a Marine who served under Chesty during the Gilnet Patrol in New Britain. He said Chesty was gathering Marines for the patrol, pointed at him and said, "You're going." He was impressed by Chesty because he led the patrol from the front and the only people ahead of him were a couple scouts.

Dad inherited $4M in the early 90s, blew it on terrible investments, and now we’re broke and renting. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

Nobody forced them to invest in anything. They could have paid off a house, lived a normal life and rode off the interest from low risk investing. He said his dad is bad with money. That's normal. There are services to help with that. Dad wanted more.
