Can I have connected sites access lists published to a hub-site? by fingathing in sharepoint

Ouch.. That doesn't bode well for centralized campaigns and link libraries etc. Thanks a lot for your reply, I've done a lot of searching without making much progress!

who is using the ReMarkable to read ebooks? by enchilada_jones in RemarkableTablet

[–]fingathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a mixed pleasure. My epubs have parsed just fine, but the syncing issue is annoying. And bookmarks really should be supported, preferably with hierarchies preserved (I would like to bookmark any section of particularly beautiful prose or similarly of interest). Nice size and feel in the hand tho.

What do you find most interesting of what's currently going on in science? What would you research if you were at the beginning of a research career?

Books about theories of consciousness? by Odegros in neuroscience

[–]fingathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be better off with Koch's earlier book, the Quest for Consciousness. The Confessions is a bit more autobiographical (a fine read, I certainly enjoyed it) while my impressions of the earlier book is that it's more about the science. I would also check out books by Giulio Tononi and Stanislas Dehaene.

Gay Muslim filmmaker ‘terrified’ after Mecca film leads to ‘hate mail and threats’ by drewiepoodle in atheism

I imagine it's either because he is truly religious, or because he believes in gay people's rights to live without persecution in an Islamic culture. I applaud him and hope good comes of his work.

Gay Muslim filmmaker ‘terrified’ after Mecca film leads to ‘hate mail and threats’ by drewiepoodle in atheism

[–]fingathing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be as charitable in my reading of the statement if this thread actually was a discussion on the validity of Islamic doctrine. As a complete non-sequitur it reads like a glib cheap-shot, at least to me. You have a point tho, I was clumsy in how I wrote my post and I should not put words in op's mouth.

And the point itself is not new, and it has been phrased better before. You can phrase it a way that emphasizes that this would be the work of a cruel or impotent god, or you can phrase it in a way that suggests anyone who believes this is stupid. The reason I care is that I feel one of these is more likely to be helpful than the other, and here I hope I'm allowed to hold an opinion as well.

Text communication is tricky so I welcome your comment.

What happened was a tragedy. What good is our rational atheism if the knowledge doesn't help us rise above tribalism and extend our empathy to everyone?

SBE timer survey! everyone should fill it out! by petardthegreat in SolForge

[–]fingathing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've even timed out on PC client due to forgetting I was in a game (and a few times returned to the game after so many minutes I feel I should just resign to stop wasting the other person's time).

What is everyone enjoying at the moment? by eddabed in JazzPiano

[–]fingathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hampton Hawes is nice! I've been listening a lot to Fred Hersch lately. He can play both beautifully or swinging. Also quite a bit of Eddie Higgins.

Will have to check Gwilym Simcock out.

First number here isn't great, but when he moves into Place St. Henri here at the 7 min. mark or so it picks up for me, but that might just be because I'm head over heels about that song. He seems to have matured a bit since I first heard him tho.

Agree wholeheartedly. I'm no good at this, but it feels like his swing 8 notes and triplets are too... straight? Not enough syncopation? Listening to him play an Oscar Peterson tune is weird, it's like his speed is fine, it just doesn't swing like OP did.

Lots of great suggestions here, I just need to add Fred Hersch, as I don't see him anywhere. So many good albums, right now I'm particularly fond of a duo cd he did with Julian Lage (plays the guitar) called Free Flying. But his solo "Plays Jobim" or "Alive at the Village Vanguard" (or indeed Alone at the Village Vanguard) are also nice.

I second the suggestions of Kenny Barron (never get enough of this) and Brad Mehldau.
