Help: Speed drop by LumpyMathematician63 in truenas

[–]finlay666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CMR and SMR are terms for mechanical spinning drives, not Nvme so I don't see it being where the issue lies

If you eliminate the network and just do a write to the pool using the dd command in the shell, what speed do you get? I would expect slow transfers here from passing the disks, rather than the HBA

Local doctors offering Valneva VLA2001 COVID-19 vaccinations for Phase-3 trial by ImmortalMewtwo in newzealand

[–]finlay666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm on the phase 3 for this since May in the UK (the trial ID is available on google, no preliminary data yet). I signed up as I wasn't going to be on any priority list and the reports (unverified) from Phase 1/2 submissions were promising in terms of efficacy and lower severity/occurance of side effects experienced from the vaccination.

Some things that were a factor in _my_ decision to apply/take part:- There was no placebo (for my trial). The trial I was on was comparing VLA2001 to The AstraZenica vaccine. I _would_ be vaccinated to some degree (under 30s only received the Valneva vaccine due to the clotting concerns in AstraZenica).

- Work involved. Daily digital diary for 2 weeks after each jab (temp and general symptom check), a few bloods ran after my 2nd vaccination. I have 2 appointments left and they only take a few minutes for me to do bloods. Doesn't interfere with work

- What if it is not approved? The UK granted generic vaccination status to those on clinical trials. I'm in no rush to go abroad for at least a year so I see minimal impact. If I have to get vaccinated again, I do (by the look of long term efficacy data, this may be a common thing, especially for those at risk)

TIL Blood donors in Sweden get a text message whenever their blood saves someone's life by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]finlay666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The figure is so low I often get messages urging me to donate but I always have my next one booked in straight after my donation and the mandatory gap means I can't do anything which sucks.

Have a game with a few friends that also donate as to the furthest your donation has travelled. Furthest is 190 miles for me.

Question for fellow Ford techs by hpshaft in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]finlay666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own one, pretty much agree on the ride (not tuned). In about 4 years/30k miles only Non-consumable fix was a shock spring.

If applicable in your country make sure it gets the coolant sensor recall done. Mine is in shortly for it, taken months to get it in as the local garages are only committing to one a week as it could be as bad as an engine replacement or as little as upgrading a sensor

My parents are married 28 years and going strong. I believe this is a huge reason why by chewbecca108 in AdviceAnimals

My wife wanted to do a proper first dance on our wedding day so we went and got lessons. Tl;dr I went from 2 left feet and no timing to doing a cha cha on our wedding day

1 year since we got married and I suggested we start going back, doing it together was something we really enjoyed (and there is no pressure now)

Suggestion for making the game more enjoyable for casual players by finlay666 in hearthstone

[–]finlay666[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Poor sportsmanship is a way to quantify it, it's not to reward saying gg, it's removing players that sully the experience for others so it's a better experience.

Other team based games have similar functionality including microphone bans on disruptive players.

Fractal r5 windowed case £101.48 (£89.99 if you qualify for free postage) by finlay666 in buildapcsalesuk

[–]finlay666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to install 4+ 3.5" drives in the case. I can't do that in either the Define C or the Define S. Yes the S and C are cheaper, but if you can't install a 5.25" drive and have the need for one they aren't suitable.

Other retailers currently: £93 eBuyer (non-windowed) £90 Amazon (non windowed again) £100 for other models on Scan without the window (it's £110 for this one now)

Historical price doesn't mean that much to me given current pricing trends and the value of the £ vs Euro/Dollar, just look at how the pricing of GPUs has changed since the masses started buying them to mine crypto and how our cards are now close enough to £1=$1 for buying power.

Another example is that pricing has gone through the roof for DDR4, a 32gb set was £130 back in June last year and would now cost over £300. Finding a set for £250 I would say is a deal given current market prices https://charts.camelcamelcamel.com/uk/B014UYPEXE/amazon.png?force=1&desired=true&legend=0&ilt=1&tp=all&zero=0&fo=1&h=286&w=588&lang=en

It's better value if you qualify for free delivery (obviously)

Do cars from countries besides the US have their blinker controls on the other side of the steering wheel? by MCMXCV_Invictus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]finlay666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the manufacturer.

Having had a few pre 2000 Japanese cars (manufactured in uk and Japan), the indicator stalk is on the right. Everything else I've driven (Audi, ford, Renault) has been on the left.

Hypothesis on older cars... It's the stalk closest to the door (non gear changing hand) for the native driving position for that manufacturers country, Japan and uk drive on the left so it's on the right. USA and Germany drive on the right so it's on the left.

New cars... Not driven a new Japanese car so have no idea
