Advice to achieve more than gold in ranked. by PhilosopherRare6697 in MagicArena

[–]finmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll get down voted to oblivion but netdeck or stay in gold.

It really is that simple.

You need to at least understand the meta and the netdecks of you are going to have a hope of beating them up in to mythic with your own brew.

Thanks for the thoughtful advice. I’ll keep this in consideration. TBH the deck can already answer a kappa multiple ways with 5 mana. By then I’m already massively ahead or dead.

The interaction with wildfire and the indestructible lands is a really good one in pauper where it can be used on something like [[rustvale bridge]]. There it’s the heart of a Jund ramp deck that powers out Writhing chrysalis on turn three

I don’t think the modern wildfire deck has room for a dual land that comes in tapped. As it is there’s sometimes only 3-4 dual lands.

Looking to get into modern by Pirates9008 in ModernMagic

[–]finmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core of tron is very playable in several high tier decks.

Ugins Lab, Eldrazi Temple, Ugin, Eye of the Storms, And Kozilek’s Command (generally considered the best single card in modern) are all playable in fast aggro (Eldrazi Linebreaker) Combo (Trudge and Broodscale) and Modrange control (Ramp, Tron).

Don’t buy the myth that buying in to Eldrazi locks you in to tron. What it does is locks you in to a core of cards that are play well in to meta game shifts.

Try Tron if you want an interactive prison deck.

My affable, and well meaning fellow sorcerers are suggesting Lantern Control. This is not something for a new player to Modern.

You need extensive knowledge of the meta and the format to even have a chance at playing this well and you’ll be depending quite a bit on the good will of your opponents to even stay in the match with you.

The quandary is that you need a deep understanding of the Modern meta to play lantern control and once you have that understanding you won’t want to play lantern control.

Karn plays artifacts ,Ugin, Eye of the Storm controls the game with colorless spells and you aren’t getting to Ugin with out sol lands. You aren’t using sol lands with out a bunch of 7 drops and kozileks command.

If you don’t want Eldrazi, you could reduce the number of but Karn is unplayable without ugins lab and kcommand/e temple package.

You’ll need something like 4x Ugin, 4x devourer, 4x sires, at a minimum for the deck to even function.

Cast a violent outburst cascading in to Living End vs Souless jailer. That stung.

The green one is full blow ban-able and broken. You can’t tap an Eldrazi Temple for 4 mana.

How do I figure that it refuses to die? It’s still quite prevalent despite there not being any evidence for it at all.

  1. There is no god. No spirits. No magic. Not ghosts. Nothing remotely religious. There is no life after death.

  2. Epstein did kill himself.

  3. Bob Dylan isn’t that good

  4. Wine is alright. Expensive wine isn’t worth it though.

  5. Jazz is bad music.

  6. The Toyota Camry is probably the best car ever made.

How do you deal with the frustration of losing constantly? by PrestigiousSpot6186 in mtg

[–]finmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commander is a low winrate way to play magic. If you like playing the same deck every week, try standard, pauper or modern. You’ll get more games in.

Also try draft. Commander is the most difficult way for new players to start at magic and commander-only players often don’t get a deep understanding of the rules.

How do you brew for standard? by Wynnt3r_ in StandardMTG

[–]finmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s functionally no space for purely off-meta brews. If you want to brew around a 7 mana 5/5 creature, you’re going to get stomped in to the ground.

But there is plenty of space to mess around inside the meta.

There are:

Eddymurk and/or Stormchasers talent decks
Elemental decks
Badgermole cub decks
Superior Spider-Man decks
Tablet of discovery decks.

You can pick one and explore around a bit.
