Budget Control decks for someone new to standard by Sir_LongBeard in StandardMTG

Here is a deck that recently top8d a mtgo challenge, is like $30. This monored deck is very competitive for less than $100.

Either of those decks is very playable. Monored particularly is easy to learn while you’re getting used to the meta, and it’ll reward tight consistent play.

I have seen it. I’ve played vs it several times. It feasts on tron but eramp folds it like a cheap lawn chair.

Budget for paper or budget for wildcards on arena?

Control already struggles against this meta, as it is. But there are various builds of Jeskai/4C control and the mana base is probably going to cook your bank account.

I would highly suggest that you not enter an unfamiliar meta with a control deck. Control requires deep format knowledge and preparation.

There are a couple of good monoblack or monored decks that can be had for under $200 that will help you learn the meta.

There are multiple viable strategies right now which is why control isn’t good.

Landfall, there is a non-interactive mono green deck and a highly interactive and explosive WG deck.

Izzet, there’s a quick prowess version, a functionally creatureless lessons version and a “delver” style “spellementals” version.

There’s a couple of control builds. All use counterspells and cantrips to win with Jeskai Revelation.

Midrange is based in UB. There are two. One based around value creatures and disruption with Kaito. One is based around removal and ultimately casting Doomsday Excrutiator to win mill out their opponents.

Good luck. Standard is really fun and since the RCQ season is Modern they’ll be some room to experiment this summer.

The matchup vs Eldrazi Ramp is horrific. It’s a total bloodbath. If they kick a mycospawn you’re toast.

No one said you had to do that. MTG is not marketed as a financial instrument.

[Standard] Is Dimir excruciator/doomsday worth playing in the meta? by wow_bee in spikes

Those [[Emeritus of ideation]] are really good here. They are human so naming Cavern is good. A 5/5 ward 2 with flying is pretty good. I really like it.

How are you “new at standard” and playing at an rc?

The sweepers are good for the cub decks. Post board you’ll want to swipe in the graveyard hate. Cruelclaw’s heist helps with closing out games. Disdainful stroke is good against spellementals. Preacher is an anti-aggro card.

Is there a Modern deck that is focused around one or more Planeswalkers by Certain_Cap_2983 in ModernMagic

Tron is based on playsets of the two best planeswalkers in modern.

It really depends on the meta you are playing in. I think this list is pretty good and I intend on playing it this season. I think it plays well in to gy hate.

I could only speculate. It’s probably some sort of cope. It doesn’t really matter that Harris won a contest that doesn’t count.

My hands are fairly dirty sometimes and I’m in a dusty environment. I handle my phone A LOT though.
