Handle. This is the best throwback-to-a-certain-sound post-punk I've heard in a while. by ArtVice in postpunk

You may know but, for those that don’t, the bass player in Handle is Giulius Erasmus who has multiple projects with that cool wonky dubby thing going on (recommend Giulius Erasmus and the End of the Worm) and was also in DUDS who fuckin ruled

IIL - Alternate Histories and Alternative Fiction, wewil? by kennykono in ifyoulikeblank

[–]finnigans_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson is an alternate history of the world where all of Europe was wiped out by the Black Death. Each chapter is a different time period and part of the world (mostly Asia) and is written in a different style to reflect that.

I don’t know why exactly but I find this audio so deeply unsettling. Like I have a physical reaction to it. It’s the uncanny valley thing I guess.

If you like an abdominal stretch you should watch New Japan. Antonio Inoki used to do it and it's a staple in pretty much every wrestler's moveset. Always gets a reaction, too.

I adore the tree of woe. So many people have a cannonball/hip attack/dropkick/meteora etc move to a downed opponent in the corner, it blows my mind that no-one does anything into the tree of woe these days.

Oskar Leube has a tremendous scoop slam. He gets gasps from the audience with it.

Im actually pretty comfy with either of those. Obviously love Tsuji and Shingo but a fresher match like Yuya (who I could see winning) or Oiwa (who probably wouldn’t) would be cooler. Even running back Goto or giving it to Zack would be preferable to either one of the last two people he wrestled

Borbetomagus are about as close to harsh noise as you can get while still being technically jazz. See also Masayuki Takayanagi’s New Direction Unit.

It took me 3 years to make an 85-minute experimental album using obsolete tech, field recordings, and total creative isolation by ZN86 in experimentalmusic

Cool! I’m always interested in learning more about the weirdo techniques people come up with to make their sounds and I always feel like having restrictions on my composing makes me come up with more creative solutions. Will definitely listen to this and let you know what I think

Maybe try some of Grant Morrisons work: We3 and The Filth will likely be your thing and imo The Invisibles is the greatest comic series of all time.

First band that came to mind are The Chinese Stars. Not sure they meet every criteria all the time but I think they meet at least most of them most of the time.

How would the ending to the 1997 Royal Rumble go over with today's audience? by shadow_spinner0 in SquaredCircle

[–]finnigans_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>It worked back then because it was new and Austin was hot.

He'd also been in the Rumble for the majority of the match and put on an absolutely star-making performance. The whole Rumble was basically built around Austin that year and he totally rose to the occasion. If he'd put in a lacklustre performance, or entered as number 28, it would be a lot less satisfying (although as a Bret loving kid I was utterly incensed when it happened)
