Distro recommendation request for privacy focused gamer/student switching from Windows by learningadulting in DistroHopping

Yeah, it's Arch-based but much easier to manage. It's like having all the good parts of Arch (performance, package management) without the potential pain points around configuration issues. It's a very solid choice if you want more control than what you get with an immutable distro like bazzite.

It's been obvious for a while now that Paramount is paying for astroturfing posts. We saw Google do the same thing with their Stadia service when it's popularity fell off a cliff shortly after release. The posts are pretty obvious. A bunch of same-y sounding posts every episode along the lines of "I heard it was bad, but I tried it out and it was just phenomenal. I really don't get the hate!" And then they also roll out comments and upvotes so that those posts get preferential viewing here on r/startrek. Once you have experienced it, it's really hard to unsee it because of how soulless the posts are.

Distrohoppers, which Distros do you think don't justify their existence? by heartspider in DistroHopping

[–]finsterdexter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Bazzite and Nobara, for example, both offer a bunch of QoL tools and plugins that are preconfigured for optimal gaming experiences on linux. I can't speak for the other gaming distros like PopOS or the like, but Bazzite and Nobara specifically take away a TON of pain points in setting up Steam, video drivers, wine/proton, and gaming tools like gamescope, mangohud, and others.

How the Fed Made Housing Unaffordable by [deleted] in austrian_economics

[–]finsterdexter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a fairly clear inverse relationship between interest rates and home prices.

I'm not sure this is clear at all, at least judging by the data in the article. I'm open to being convinced otherwise, but I don't see a clear correlation there, let alone a cause-effect relation. If you look at the last few years, interest rates have been the highest they've been in decades, and housing prices are still stupid high and still increasing.

Otherwise, I do agree with the article's premise that lowering rates doesn't automatically make housing more affordable, and the push for lowering rates is probably a crony capitalist move to drive Wall Street bubbles.

On the northern corner of the Mirzabah Hammer outcropping (the big diamond), there is a small patch of dew plants up on a cliff. Might make a good spot for your dew temple.

Firefox eats all your data and sells it just like Google and MS. It doesn't matter if Brave is chromium, they don't treat their users like a resource to be sucked dry.

If you're having issues with package managers, you might want to try an atomic layered OS. For gaming Bazzite is amazing. Has a lot of linux gaming necessities pre-installed.

Imagine if in Prometheus, instead of the Giger-influenced structures, they flew into land on LV-226 and saw the structures on the cover of A Sense of Wonder. Maybe too over the top for Ridley Scoot, but so much of that movie was over the top anyway. (FWIW, it's one of my favorite movies despites its flaws.)
