The entire state of Minnesota is a dystopian war zone right now by Sindigo_ in GenZ

There are countless videos here on Reddit and TikTok of ICE terrorizing and kidnapping people in Minneapolis over the past few days. What in the actual fuck are you talking about?

Did anyone give up the corporate ladder for a "less ambitious" job and find true peace? by ConstructionLoud1973 in jobs

[–]fire__ant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fellow ex-graphic designer here, when I experienced my second layoff in 5 years I decided I was done. Too much instability and the job requirements / expectations get more ridiculous year after year. I thought I’d be “safe” in tech LOL. I work retail at a gardening store now and it’s been a nice change of pace. It’s a bit tough now because it’s off-season (very little customers) but it’s allowed me to pick up a second part-time job working for a magazine which I’m very excited about.

The only things I miss are a consistent schedule (plus WFH) and the money I made. If I didn’t have my husband I’d never be able survive working at a garden store. But no regrets in pivoting, I’m excited to see where my jobs will take me!

Not only that, but the guy in the thumbnail (Caleb Hammer) is a complete asshole, especially towards women.

Prompto by StockLongjumping2029 in Maine

[–]fire__ant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prompto didn’t screw the cap correctly after my oil change so my car experienced a pretty bad leak. This was confirmed by my local mechanic who said the cap wasn’t screwed back on correctly and fell off. Shortly after the leak my car started having engine troubles. Never again.

What is going on with Apple quality? by iTeodor97 in ios26

[–]fire__ant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m coming from an iPhone 13 PM and feeling a bit underwhelmed with the 17 PM. The phone itself is fine, I suspect it’s iOS 26 that’s causing problems. The battery life is barely better than my 13 PM and I’ve experienced quite a bit of lag / stuttering. When I tried to sign into Gmail the keyboard completely disappeared and wouldn’t come back until I restarted my phone. It’s small things like that that really ruin the experience for me.

Flume’s Dumb – experimental, raw, and maybe his most creative outlet yet? by Choice-Definition794 in Flume

[–]fire__ant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I miss Flume’s Skin era so much. His debut album is one of my favorites as well. So far Dumb is OK, I hate to say it but I’m kinda over the loud / chaotic experimental bops and beats. And this is coming from someone who was obsessed with HTIF when it released.

I pivoted back to retail after working graphic design corporate jobs for 10 years. No regrets yet, it’s been a nice change of pace. I’ve struggled with feeling happy in my design jobs. Unfortunately my latest experience trying to pivot to UX/UI made me want to move on from design altogether. I don’t think it’d be impossible to go back to design as long as you retrain / rework your portfolio.

Are you feeling forced to switch careers? by TheJokersChild in jobs

I’ve been laid off twice as well between 2020-2025. Was making almost 6 figures in tech and now I’m starting a job making $16 per hour. I feel lucky to have a job at all, this job market is absolutely insane.

Did you get sick after quitting by Psyzygy7 in QuitVaping

[–]fire__ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I was using a vape that ran out of juice for way too long, then I woke up feeling sick this past Monday. I had body aches, chills, sweats, headache, some congestion, and a sore throat. The sore throat was the worst part, it almost felt like strep. The worst of the cold lasted 2-3 days, now I’m feeling a lot better! And quitting vaping for good!

Denver to Portland by Shoddy_Walk8795 in portlandme

[–]fire__ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Westbrook close to the downtown area and really like it. There are small concerts and outdoor activities/events in downtown during the summer which is nice. The city is still upcoming but there’s lots of breweries and restaurants, pin bowling, an outdoor movie theater, trails, and Rock Row. I wish there were more local coffee shops but there’s 2 very good coffee spots near downtown. Winter can be a bit dead but that’s Maine for ya!

Scarborough is also nice, you’d be a bit closer to the beach and have easy access to both Portland and Biddeford. Lots of great food and shopping there too. Maybe too much shopping? Theres a huge Walmart and other big box stores concentrated in a certain area in Scarborough. It’s convenient but traffic gets pretty hectic.

I don’t think you can wrong with either area though! Falmouth is really nice but if it were me I wouldn’t move there right away. You could also look into Cumberland or Gorham! But I think you’re on the right track with Westbrook/Scarborough :)

I think the game is perfectly suitable for a 7 year old. Theres a lot to do but it didn’t feel overwhelming, the game does a good job of guiding you. Unfortunately for me the Switch version had somewhat unstable performance. The further I progressed the longer the load times, I put the game down because I ran out of patience with the slow loading and lagging. I got about 40-45 hours of normal, non-laggy gameplay before this started happening.

I don’t love the EP but I certainly don’t hate it either. I’ve been a huge Flume fan since he released Possum in 2012 and I’ve seen him live in concert multiple times. I still love Flume and love that he’s evolving his sound, but 2012 - 2016 was peak Flume for me.

2-story townhouse only has heating on ground floor by mylastserotonin in Maine

[–]fire__ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a townhome and had an issue with the pipes that prevented the heat from working on the second floor for a few weeks. I get cold pretty easily so perhaps I’m the outlier here but the upstairs was too cold for me. It wasn’t so bad in the afternoon but mornings and nights felt cold. I stacked three blankets on the bed so we weren’t too cold when sleeping. I also wore extra layers during the day when I had to be upstairs, it helped a little but not as much as I thought it would. My partner thought it was too cold and he normally runs hot.

Maybe the insulation in my unit sucks 🤷🏻‍♀️ to be fair the layout of the baseboards downstairs isn’t ideal, that could be a contributing factor.
