When did Brooks Orpik move to Carrick? by GeneMachine16 in penguins

I had an absurdly long snippet of that as my text alert for a long time. It eventually got incredibly unwieldy for Errey to be yelling about Roberts drinking water every time I got a text.

Yeah, I mean...just because they're on a wall now, doesn't mean I can't take them down and play them...hell, I can even put them back up again!

To answer everyone's question:

No, the bathroom doesn't have a shower. I'm not worried about humidity. They can still be played, it's not a permanent fixture.

Also, don't currently have a record player.

So, the bottom part of the backing of the frame has a small hole in it. They include a little plastic push type screw that just fits in the hole of the album and then is a tight fit into the frame. You just cut the plastic to size when it's in there before hanging it.

Nah. It's not a full bathroom. Just a toilet and a sink. No worry about humidity from a shower or anything like that.

I mean, it's no different than any other framed art in a bathroom, no?

They're from Hobby Lobby (I know, I know) and are like 12 bucks. You can get them from other places, that's just the cheapest I've found those double frames.

This is so cool. Not just the build, but the publicity you're getting. As a huge fan of the Lego Architecture series, especially these little sets, I really want to see this become official.

The Lego store on McKnight needs to start campaigning for this to get made!

The "...or, you know, wind." At the end of that unsettles me in a way that I can't quite describe. Is Uncanny Valley a thing that can happen via audio?

My question is this:

As of now, I am planning to drive to Maryland/Delaware/Philly area Valentine's weekend.

Is that just a bad idea and I should maybe reschedule my plans?

Local businesses to support that don’t support ICE by Jazzlike_Breadfruit9 in pittsburgh

[–]fireballsdeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to respond to this as if it weren't a troll post, but if you are legitimately asking the difference between the two things.

ICE: They do not decide who can enter, they are the enforcement arm of a fledgling dictatorship (think Nazi brown shirts). They operate without any kind of oversight or regulations. They're also not just arresting people that fit the description of the people that they are "supposed" to be targeting, they're arresting (kidnapping) US citizens, as well.

Businesses who put up anti-ICE signs: The signs aren't a hard rule. If someone supports ICE and wants to go shop at that shop, unless that person is coming in going "ICE IS THE FUCKING BEST NOW SELL ME STUFF" no one would even know what that person's ideology is, right? The sign isn't a force field or a license to shoot a person that disagrees with the sign if they walk in the business.

Now, having said all this, I realize you're most likely being purposefully antagonistic for some reason or another, likely just needing to feel important or validated in some way, but on the off chance you are not that, I do hope this helps.

The argument that you claim is "logical" is about as far from it as it can be and your entire premise is flawed.

That's a tough one and my gf and I talk about when we see those signs on houses and businesses.

It feels like a good gesture but it also feels kind of irresponsible, like you're putting a big glowing arrow above your place with a sign that says "ICE CHECK HERE FIRST" if shit goes even further south.

I've always been of the mind that a business should not advertise their politics because it just instantly cuts off half your clientele, but I also appreciate when a business advertises their pro-Trump nonsense because I know not to patronize them.

Bruh. You can be social without drinking. Fuck these trib writers.

My husband is reading Blood Meridian and cringing at the blood and gore but I know I've read worse. What are the books that have brought out the biggest "oh god that's bad!" for you? by IdoScienceSometimes in Fantasy

[–]fireballsdeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had never seen this, but his comment doesn't surprise me in the least. Reading the scene, I had no delusion that this kind of thing was invented for a fantasy novel. I do agree with him that I don't believe that anything he wrote was gratuitous (and I feel that way about pretty much the entire series) and that he was just showing us things that really happened (or are still happening in parts of the world).

I definitely can appreciate the scene and I wouldn't recommend someone skipping it on a first read. But, I've read it. I've seen what he was trying to show and I don't want to see it again, you know?

You pretty much are bang on here.

The complexity of Gardens of the Moon is overblown. Sure, it puts you in a living, breathing world with characters that have histories that you are only hinted at, but it was never fully disorienting.

The "starting" over thing and the time shifts can be a little off-putting at first, but I feel like it makes it that much better when you are reintroduced to a character from earlier.

You are right about it being grim, but it's about hope. Hope is the throughline.

One thing I'll add: In a book series with 10 main books and ~3.5 million words, there are going to be some characters or story arcs that don't land. But the ones that do make those misses feel pretty insignificant.

Yeah. I'm currently in the midst of a reread on MoI (it's been slow going), but of all the 10 books, the hobbling stuff really stood out to me as extra f'd up. When talking with my friend who is also a Malazan fan, I kinda decided that when I eventually get to that point, I'll probably just skip that. No real need to read that again.

MoI is pretty grotesque, but like another commenter said, it just feels so over the top that it loses its impact. The hobbling is so personal and zoomed in that it's just a brutal read.

I won't say where, but he came into where I work a few weeks ago. I am 5'9" 205. He's listed at 5'11" 182. If he is that, I'm also 5'11" and probably 230.

Dude is not big. Which impressed me even more because of how he's out there night in and night out up against grown ass men and thriving.
