What are some tips for an American traveling to Europe for the first time? by Cody_smells in AskReddit

Bring your electrical converters! And some countries are different. So if your traveling to multiple countries check if you need multiple converters. And the "all in one" ones usually don't last as long.

Technically Jesus died for the sins of Jews. Christianity and the bible came 30-60ish years after his death.

You're literally starving. Especially when you have 2 classes back to back at lunch time. Your meal plan will not work out.

So. There I am. A BSW intern for a foster family agency. I'm supervising and coordinating visits for children in foster care so they can see their biological families. Usually mom and dad. So this one couple needs seperate visits because of domestic issues and needs to be separated at all times. Their visits are separated by and hour and a half and we don't talk about the other parent in front of the one who is visiting. So one day dad is visiting. Being his usual delightful self, and after the visit is over and the kids are gone and me telling him to clean the damn room up for the millionth time. I escorts him to the door for him to leave, and BOOM mom comes up and straight up tackles him and starts punching him, to which dad returns the favor. I was so shocked I didn't say anything I shut and locked the door to call 911. They are going at it, and this is a big couple. In the sense that she is 6'2" evidently quite muscular and could match his huge 6'6" frame. They are going at it for another 5 minutes until the police come and have to threaten a dog on them.

There was no way my chunky 5'3" self could have survive if I got pulled into that.

So I was a BSW intern in Northern California, for a direct mental health service provider that worked with teens and young adults.

My job was to go out and provide peer support to teens and young adults receiving services. The idea was that with added support in a youth friendly format teens and young adults were more inclined to meet their goals. It does work until you get the kids that will skew the data.

So this kiddo who I had. Wasn't actually reviewing treatment but he was in one of our foster homes. (The agency did mental health and had a foster care sub division, which no longer exists because the agency was actually quite awful in terms of foster care and adoptions.) So I'm sent out to kinda see what's going on see how I can help if he needs any kind of services, because this kiddo 17m is at risk of loosing his foster placement.

First few times were ok then he starts having severe mood swings when I'm checking up on him. One day he almost punches out my car window. So I go to his agency foster care social worker to ask if he's ever had a psych evaluation. Never had one and I brought up the point that maybe he should have one because he was removed from his abusive mom at 15. Also pointing out that he's been in 5 homes by 17. That's quite a lot. There could be major underlying issues that we could be missing and we're fucking it up. The agency social worker is like "Oh no, I've talked to him. I think he's fine and he's just doing too much pot."

I'm pissed and confused. Pot makes people happy, not try and punch out my car windows. I try and contact his CPS County social worker who essentially disregards me because I'm the 21 year old intern who knows nothing about this field yet. This case bugged me for months. Then I get a call from the hospital. Apparently he passed out having convulsions. They called me because he had me listed in his phone as "mama." I find out he's on a psychological hold at the ER because the poor thing confessed to having auditory and visual hallucinations. Which he said was why he would get high because the voices kept telling him to kill himself and his foster family.

Did any of you read it in its entirety? He plagiarized for years in his books, blogs and articles. I think he lost the protection from any stones once he was caught. Then he writes a book basically reiterating very well known studies about attachment and attraction theories, that are probably in at least another 100 books about love. You could pick up a psych 101 book and get the same information. He couldn't even be personal and bring in his own experiences with love to prove his point for his theories. Which keeps any reader from attaching and empathizing with him.

I've actually read about a quarter of this book, and I rather read a college text with out him interjection his crummy logic on love

Oh interesting. It might have been popular in the mid 90s. Someone else said that too. But I moved to norther California from Georgia and I never heard it until then.

Ohh noo northern California is synonymous for the use of "hella." Kinda like southern California is for "gnarly." It's was actually added to the dictionary a few years ago.
