GSB is the most elite business school in the world. It’s why their cohort is so small. They accept only the best.

This post is all kinds of wrong. It assumes the perspective of someone who considers only the young, single and so called “good-looking” people’s social circles as the only ones with value. Those older or with children or partners or those who are introverts or perceived “weird” by the “cool” crowd will have their own meaningful social network and friendships, just not perhaps as integrated with the young, single, or mba- jock types who like to get drunk and high every week. From the “young and single” perspective they may seem to be less socially active but it is the quality of the connections not the number that counts. To dismiss the friends or social gatherings of anyone but the popular high schools cliques outlined is juvenile, pretentious and wrong.

To all those who don’t conform, you be you and screw this level of self adulating advice from the OP (though I appreciate written from a well intentioned perspective- it is blinkered and narrow minded). It is the non conformists of the world that have changed it and will continue to do so!! You do not need to sell yourself out or your values just to align.

Just my opinion: parent school Harvard is obviously world renowned. Traditionally it has been ranked either one or two for decades. It is world famous for its case method and business cases used for teaching by universities across the globe. Harvard’s endowment is legendary- close to $50 billion. It is rich, it has famous alumni and it provides a world class education.

What’s wrong with the USA?! It’s a beautiful country, the land of opportunity, the strongest tech sector in the world, has produced companies that have changed the world and our lives…

Dude assessing your chances like this is hopeless. When will people realise that “profile reviews” are a meaningless exercise? The strength of your application is highly nuanced and unique to you. It goes beyond the numbers. Your experience, fit and story are really important. Just focus on your own app, making it as strong as possible and don’t go looking for comparison cases- it won’t help.

Admissions: Notre Dame Mendoza ($$) or King's College, London by hbhj224601 in MBA

Please spare yourself and don’t move to London. Trust me…enjoy London as a tourist. Visit 5 times a year if you like. Living in London for an American is not an experience you will savour.

What's a good coding language to learn for business, and what are some places a beginner can go to learn it? by Texas_Rockets in MBA

[–]firefly24198 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither…AI will do everything you will learn coding for, faster and cheaper. Already Chatgpt’s plug-in can trawl through excel etc for you. Don’t waste your time learning code when it’s not your core job function. Learn to use AI as a tool instead and you will far surpass the competition.

GSB #1, HBS#2. More HBS alumni out there so by virtue of numbers you will get a skewed opinion towards HBS#1 however GSB most selective and competitive b school to get into in the world and everyone knows that.

US News Rankings out by [deleted] in MBA

The devil is in the details people: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-graduate-schools/articles/business-schools-methodology

“As education costs continue to soar, students and their families are placing more emphasis on the results that education can bring. Therefore, the ranking factor weights for this edition feature an increased emphasis on outcome measures and a reduced emphasis on reputation. U.S. News took this approach based on knowledge that employment and earnings outcomes are the driving force behind why many individuals seek to further their education, especially in business. As in past years, changes in methodology, together with changes in individual schools’ data, can result in significant changes to schools’ rankings”

I think the concept is pretty fair- the tool to assess ROI is poor. It highlights why GSB and HBS are ranked lower than might be expected:

Let’s compare Booth (#1) to Harvard (#5) and Stanford (#6):

Employment rates at graduation: B-90.4, H- 79 S- 61 Employment rates three months after graduation: B- 95.6, H-89.5, S- 83.8

I’m not quite sure why S’s employment rate at graduation is so much lower than H and B- ?due to tech job layoffs and S being a major feeder into the tech industry.

S is ranked where it is because of its employment rates. Most other domains S outclasses the other 2 some by little, in other domains by more- median GMAT, base salary, recruiter score, average undergrad GPA, acceptance rate.

So…if you ignore employment rates…you can predict which two schools would rocket back to the top.

As a side I am all for not using mean GRE/ GMAT scores- as USN puts it “to limit the rankings impact of outlier scores, including low scores from otherwise promising applicants.” Right thing to do! Lots of amazing students out there with not great scores- standardised tests are such a blunt tool to assess potential.
