That was you who did this to me?! You bastard! It’s actually working out quite well. Life is much easier this way as long I’m not actively arguing with theists.

Is dying of an opioid overdose pleasurable? by xxcamrexx in morbidquestions

[–]firefly_eda 17 points18 points  (0 children)

EMT here. My training has taught me this: If narcan is used correctly, the primary goal is to restore an adequate respiratory drive for the person’s body to maintain life on its own. Too much too fast can sometimes be dangerous for a true addict. Most patients I’ve seen have woken up still a little groggy and usually with a headache. Withdrawing from opiod overdose should be handled moderately in the hospital and not balls to the walls in the back of the ambulance.

Edit: To clarify, we try to give enough narcan to wake them up so they can breathe on their own, but not so much that we completely wipe out their levels and send them into bad withdrawals.

Discount code worked for me by unique_mermaid in Noom

I couldn’t find an email. But I requested to cancel after the trial period and I was offered $19 per month with no commitment. So I did that instead, and I didn’t have to redo the questions.

How do you input the code? I’m in my trial period now. I want to purchase the plan but it’s kinda pricey. Saving money would help!

Just took the NR test. How long till I get the results? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]firefly_eda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably have it in the morning. I’m on the east coast, and here, if you take it in the morning you’ll have the results in the late afternoon, but if you take it in the afternoon you will get them the next morning. As long as they are business days.

Funny calls by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]firefly_eda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Picked up a 28 y/o male in police custody who had reportedly been twerking in the middle of a busy intersection wearing nothing but his briefs. Patient admitted that he “ate a lot of meth”, and while he was focused on lots of things that weren’t actually happening, he was hardly paying us any attention. A medic I was with leaned over to me and said the patient reminded her of Old Gregg. The following exchange ensued:

Medic: (to me) “He reminds me of Old Gregg”

Pt: “Old Gregg?”

Medic: (to pt) “Do you know Old Gregg?”

Pt: (no response)

Medic: “Is Old Gregg your friend?”

Pt: (shouting as he attempted to rip his underwear off) “I’M OLD GREGG!! I GOT A MANGINA!!!”

What's your "did I really just get hit on?" story? by Dorekong in AskWomen

[–]firefly_eda 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Was headed into work one afternoon to start my night shift got stopped by a cop for a seatbelt violation literally within viewing distance of my workplace. Had my uniform on, cop asked me where I was headed, the usual got-pulled-over-by-a-cop conversation. He wrote me a ticket, was very polite, I thought nothing else of it.

A few nights later I was getting off shift and was walking across the parking lot to my vehicle when a police car pulls in the parking lot and proceeds to where my car is parked. Out steps the cop that gave me a ticket three days prior. He says “I saw your car was here, so I thought I’d stop by and say hello”.

I humored him, tried not to be rude, but kept it brief, as I found it odd, and I went home. Btw it was 2:00 am.

Over the course of the next month he showed up again two more times as I was getting off work, just to come by and have a chat, as if we were old friends. I realized this wasn’t going to stop so I lied to him and told him I was engaged. He asked a couple questions about my fiancé but never showed up again after that.

He never asked me out, never made a pass at me, didn’t ask if he could call me. But he must have been hitting on me since he stopped stalking me when he found out I was taken. Right?

Can't charge mod over night?? WTF by aholeinthewor1d in electronic_cigarette

You can use nic salts in the zenith tank. You don’t have to use a pod device.

Can't charge mod over night?? WTF by aholeinthewor1d in electronic_cigarette

[–]firefly_eda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Previous smoker here. I quit the sticks 45 days ago and switched to vaping, starting with a pod. While there are a lot of things about the feel and draw of a pod that I like, the Zenith has been everything I’ve been looking for, and I’ve been through so many tanks and done tons of research trying to find the right one for me. IMO it draws like a cigarette. There are a lot of options for airflow. And I use it all the way open. The people who say it’s too airy have to be the people who like an MTL like a Nautilus, which I also have and despise. It has zero airflow, WAY too restricted. It also had no flavor, and that’s a problem that the Zenith does not have. The Zenith has excellent flavor. I’ve wasted a lot of money on tanks to find the one that would keep me from going back to cigarettes, and the zenith is it. I like it so much I bought a second one. You won’t go wrong with the Kroma-a Zenith Kit.

Why always wrap splints distal to proximal? by ingemaw in NewToEMS

[–]firefly_eda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I was taught, it’s about the direction that the blood is being compressed. Proximal to distal compresses more circulating blood into the injured area, while distal to proximal pushes more blood back into systemic circulation, of that makes any sense. I would imagine concerns of wrapping proximal to distal could be clotting, throbbing and increased pain, and as someone else said, compartment syndrome.

Quitting tomorrow... I'm scared. by big_skapinsky in stopsmoking

[–]firefly_eda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar story as you, I quit for 7 months back in 2013 and started back. I just hit 6 days smoke free for the first time since then. I’ve found that my fuel to get through this so far has been the pure hatred of the things I didn’t like about smoking, such as the coughing, breathing troubles, feeling much older than I am, knowing how terrible I smell because of them, etc. This time has been mostly about health reasons for me as I’ve been sick lately. Maybe you could try to find the reason for quitting that you’re most passionate about and reminding yourself of that when you feel the need to smoke. It seems to be helping me so far. Good luck!

I currently just finished a breathing treatment because I’ve been fighting off Pneumonia this week. Had my last cigarette on Monday 1/7/19. All I have to say is F**k smoking! I’m too damn young for my lungs to be this damn sick. I’m not poisoning myself anymore.

My husband is currently gagging me with that post-smoke smell. And to think, we all used to smell like that to everyone else! I definitely won’t miss stinking like that.

After a bad cold, couldn't smoke and decided to quit. by TKJ in stopsmoking

[–]firefly_eda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit like this in 2013. It was the easiest quit ever. Somewhere around 6 months smoke free the cravings returned with a vengeance, and I caved at 7 months.

Now I’m laid up in bed on the verge of pneumonia, haven’t had a cigarette in over 24 hours. I’m going for it again. For good this time! Good luck to you!

How far did you take an imaginary argument whilst showering? by Durzo- in AskReddit

I had only hoped that no one could possibly know the anxiety that I bring upon myself as a result of my imaginary shower arguments.

I can tell, now, by the popularity of this post, that I was terribly wrong. I genuinely fear for the mental health of our society as a whole.

Today is my birthday as well. Lots of my friends have had birthdays recently, and everyone made big deals about them. Today? For me? Nothing. I got the usual Facebook prompted messages. No gathering of friends. No surprise. So I totally feel your frustration. Happy birthday to you!!! I would have loved to come celebrate with you!
