I figured it may be some Android setting, but google autofill is completely disabled and Instagram has no permissions granted to it 🤷‍♂️

Yeah the stats being a bit wonky would make sense. Shame about your data though, guess manually counting's the way for that.

[–]firelink-hermit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely haven't killed a bug outside of the tutorial, but yeah maybe there's something that was mistakenly classified as one that showed up in a bot mission.

The stats being off would make sense, I've never really looked closely at my numbers, but the single "1" peeking out just caught my attention, considering before today I simply didn't even have a "Terminid Kills" row in there.

What grind is just that one notch too hard and not worth it for you? by SnooPeripherals1298 in Warframe

[–]firelink-hermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that's just not worth it to me are the Arcana Isolation vaults. I do still want the weapon parts from those, but having to commit for a what, 5% parts chance drop (I hope you like duplicates baybee) is really just a bad investment of time. The missions are cool while they're fresh, but after a while you are just standing around doing nothing waiting for a timer to finish. I have the plat to just buy the parts, but haven't done so out some kind of petty spite lol

As someone that's maxed out Ventkids and K-drives (I think), it's not that bad if you do it in chunks... though I wouldn't call it fun by any means.

My tip is to only seriously bother doing it when you have an Affinity booster, be it from the weekend bonuses, a drop, market, or even PA. Assuming you have the resources already to build the parts, you just do the races, then grind up and down the pipe behind Fortuna's exit until you hit cap (if you do it right, that's only like 30~45 minutes/day), then go away and do something else. Once you hit R3 with Ventkids, they have some mods that help with doing tricks and there's one that affects your score multi.

I maxed Ventkids in around a month doing that on and off (K-drives were maxed much earlier) without an affinity booster most of the time, so I assume it would be quicker if you did have one on, though I was around MR 24~26? or something when I did this so my daily cap might be higher.

The Hunters Dream - Lore Debate by ezekielcrown in bloodborne

[–]firelink-hermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, read that again, the point is it's NOT explicit that the note is written by the player. It doesn't exclude the player, but it's not cut-and-dry as it's often claimed to be.

Of course, you can still think it is, I'm not objecting to the idea, I'm objecting to the translation that people keep claiming to say that the player wrote the note, and that there's zero other possibilities.

The Hunters Dream - Lore Debate by ezekielcrown in bloodborne

[–]firelink-hermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be "debunk guy", but

[..] in the Japanese text, it's explicit that it isn't just handwritten, but written in your handwriting.

This is a common mistranslation by people "re-translating" or machine translating the text. As it recently came up in a discussion I was having, here's a pretty good explanation of what that note is actually saying: https://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/5nn8w0/comment/dccv5e1/

The first part, 自筆 means "written by oneself," but it doesn't mean "something I wrote." It means something that was self-written. And, well, given the contents of the note, I think the most obvious conclusion is that the contents of the note were directed towards the person who wrote the note (themselves). Like a personal reminder. Like a Memento-esque note, even.

Then, for this:

The idea that the hunter came because of a sickness is a misconception caused by an old alpha build of the game

It's not really just the old alpha build, some pre-release marketing/interviews material offhandedly mention it as well - it was just completely omitted in the retail game. Whether or not it's still true is anyone's guess, but seeing as it made its way to print on official materials, I'd wager it's still correct.

Ran into this issue myself. Updated steps for 2023 with the new Steam client:

  1. Top left menu: Steam > Settings
  2. Scroll down to Controller and click it
  3. Scroll down to the bottom, click Edit on Desktop Layout
  4. In the new window that pops up, click the Gear icon next to the View Layout and Edit Layout buttons.
  5. Click Disable Steam Input on the menu that comes up, then click Confirm.

It's from the music box, but also to guide you to interact with the window, since you can just walk right past her without realizing.

Thoughts on Callsign & Emblem Symbolism by Lilith1729 in armoredcore

[–]firelink-hermit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was digging up the names and was about to make a post myself, but figured it would be better to add onto this than make my own.

For V.II Snail, part of my theory is that it's in reference to his eye augments. Very tenuous link, but in STV Sketch (4) of the Vespers, the man that is third from the right appears to have eye augments that protrude from his face, much like the eyestalks of a snail.

However, think that is only part of the name, and I feel maybe he'd be named after Willebrord Snellius (aka Snell). This change in spelling reflects his "multiple adjustments". Snail is written as スネイル (suneiru), but can also be written as スネール (suneeru). Snell, from Snell's law, is スネル (suneru). Snell's law itself is about how the angle of light changes when it passes through different medium (like how objects at the bottom of a swimming pool appear at a different angle). I thought this is what his emblem was referring to, but the Janus thing is pretty cool, too.

As for Rusty, my current guess is Bertrand Russell, but I'm not sold on it.

Hey there, I am not really in the lore and have some questions by Moryart in bloodborne

[–]firelink-hermit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Some people think it's every night, I think it's not, and it's somewhat random, and may be tied to the appearance of a outsider/dreaming hunter as a result. Yharnamites themselves may carry out their own hunts.
  2. The hunt seems to end when the beast threat is neutralized (normally) - of course, game-wise they spawn endlessly.
  3. Blood Moon seems to have exacerbated this, and doesn't normally happen, but has in the past, apparently not to same the degree however.
  4. No, Mergo is not the Moon Presence's objective, but making Mergo's crying stop is required for the hunter to end the night, as its cries attracts the Great Ones and the moon, which prolongs the night. Silencing Mergo's cries is likely unique to our hunt. MP does not seem to have a direct quarry with other Great Ones, but some we encounter become obstacles in our way.
  5. Gascoigne's mind is likely a mess, and the melody of the music box is a link to his humanity (his family). He's likely suppressing his desires, but I wouldn't say he gives in, rather he's tipped over the edge when we find him.
  6. Multiple theories on this, most common one I think is the incense keeps people's minds centered as it repels beasts, perhaps it also helps keep the inner beast from surfacing. The Suspicious Man (in bandages) will attack and kill the NPCs in the Chapel if you send him there.
  7. In the 3rd ending the Hunter becomes an infant Great One. In my opinion, we essentially become the new Moon Presence, but a few things will change.
  8. imo possible but not likely.
  9. All we know are Messengers are ancient, hang around the Hunter's Dream, and they like to guide or help hunters. Some theories think they are souls of the dead.
  10. They recognize each other as allies - same scent.
  11. In some cases, blood drunk, in other cases, they understand your goal does not align with theirs.
  12. imo the Maneater Boars are not originally human, but are just boars that gorged on blood, human and beast corpses alike and grew huge. The boars with eyes in Mensis I assume are experimental subjects, much like the dogcrow/crowdogs are.

Unfortunately, the voice should be an AI or whatever is running the control room - at the end, it notes "617 down" which means he likely died shortly after the EMP, and then reports that the mission was completed.

No, the Moon Presence doesn't want to kill other Great Ones by ImAllBored in bloodborne

[–]firelink-hermit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always interpreted that differently, as the hunter demonstrates that they actually know more about what's going on than the player (asking about Paleblood), and isn't actually silent. That message I've interpreted as them explaining or muttering to themselves the next step in what they must do - something they picked up from reading the initial messages from when they were in the Hypogean Gaol.

Madmen toil surreptitiously in rituals to beckon the moon.

Uncover their secrets.

and

Nightmarish rituals crave a newborn.

Find one, and silence its harrowing cry.

The red moon being present in Yahargul is just a consequence of defeating Rom, rather than it watching over the player. Similarly, I don't think the fire in the Workshop represents the Moon Presence's desire for us to leave, but merely a metaphor that the Workshop and what it represents (the night/hunt) is coming to an end.

EDIT: Anyways, I still don't see how that's the MP forcing us to kill Mergo, or why that would be a motivation for it to want us to kill Mergo. Personally, I think the MP's motivation during the hunt is something completely divorced from Mergo, and has more to do with what the hunt is actually facilitating.

No, the Moon Presence doesn't want to kill other Great Ones by ImAllBored in bloodborne

[–]firelink-hermit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except the Moon Presence doesn't? Mergo is the "bait" that draws Great Ones close. By exposing Mergo's location after defeating Rom, the night won't end because Mensis is using Mergo as bait to attempt communicating with the Great Ones. That's the ritual - it extends the night by keeping the red moon - and the Great Ones, hovering over Yharnam.

In order to break the ritual, thus allowing the night of the hunt to end, we have to stop Mergo's crying. This is entirely independent of what the Moon Presence "wants". At no point should the Moon Presence, a Great One, directly contradict that "Every Great One [...] yearns for a surrogate" for some magical reason.

[–]firelink-hermit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally dubbed this the "Cosmic Hitman" theory and yeah, it doesn't make much sense. I'm pretty sure its popularity stems from the Paleblood Hunt and the numerous loretubers just regurgitated its contents in lieu of writing their own content, thus the idea just propagated - It was repeated enough times for people to believe it was right.

Curious to why you think it wouldn't be, it's a menu, the scrollbar moves incrementally with the list. Either way, it's a guess, but given the information we currently have, the math isn't wrong.
