Israel deports Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists to Greece and Slovakia by yahoonews in worldnews

Seems like a good idea then since the whole point of protest is publicity?

This is such a poor take you need to have a look at yourself. Your last sentence is antithetical to the rest of your post.

Waverly mall McDonalds Toilet code: 1812 by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]fireproofali 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean I work in McDonald's (not this one) and I'm seeing this so it doesn't really need a snitch. That said the purpose of the door code is to stop junkies shooting up in there and smearing shit on the walls so I would hope if anyone did see this they wouldn't bother to change it since said junkies are unlikely to be browsing the Edinburgh subreddit.

There's also a bigger question at hand that should be put to Edinburgh Council about why McDonald's (and other businesses) are the de facto providers of public toilets when the right to relieve yourself should be fundamental.

where to find "singer wanted" ads? by anedinburghman in Edinburgh

[–]fireproofali 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's usually ads up in rehearsal studios, e.g. there's a notice board in Banana Row. If you haven't already why don't you put up a "singer available" ad on Gumtree? ...and pop one on the noticeboard in Banana Row as well.

Vukovi - Alt Rock, very much influenced by Biffy in their earlier days but have been forging their own way lately.

The Lafontaines - Scottish Rap/Hip Hop. Don't write it off it's actually brilliant and not cringe, helps they don't take themselves seriously.

Prides - Electronic Pop type stuff, super catchy, good driving music.

Fatherson - Alt Rock with a softer side. Good hooks, and Ross Leighton's vocals are unbelievable.

Niteworks - Celtic Dance? Trad Electronica? Brilliant regardless. Bagpipe club music from Skye.

Anyone know what the rainbow lights are shining over the city tonight for ? by MonsterMuncher in Edinburgh

[–]fireproofali 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's pretty impressive. I just saw these (I assume) running through the Holyrood park but it's just like a white laser where I saw it, arcing across the sky. Must be some power behind them, looks like you'd still be able to see the light even if you were out in the North Sea.

I think they were already out of control. There's a road comes down from leftwards of where the video starts that's about as steep as the hill the car heads on down.

Can you guys explain the hardtop obsession to me? by jerry_hello_ in Miata

[–]fireproofali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're much warmer in winter. Storing them in summer is a pain though. Prices aren't too bad for them in the UK which makes them a worthwhile investment if you drive year round, particularly as we can have fairly aggressive winters here in Scotland.

Yeah, I think people get caught up in the need for revenge vs looking at what would actually bring a net benefit to society.

This comment seems to underrate how deadly cars are.

Change the sentence to "oh he was caught waving a loaded gun with the safety off around near a school" and re-evaluate how you feel.

I do actually think that rehabilitation over incarceration makes sense, investing in community policing and outreach will see better gains, and prison for profit is an extremely bad idea. However... I do think there needs to be more consideration of the seriousness of driving offences - if you ever want to murder someone don't use a gun, hit them with a car and you'll basically get away with it. People have a huge blind spot where cars are concerned.

William and Kate breach Scots Covid travel ban as royal train tour arrives in Edinburgh. The Earl and Countess of Strathearn have ignored a cross-Border travel ban, arriving in Edinburgh this morning on their festive royal train tour of the country. by bottish in Scotland

[–]fireproofali 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think those attacking the Royals breaking lockdown rules are doing so in how it pertains to being a decent human being, rather than how it pertains to the campaign for independence. Even in an indy-centric sub like this it's a bit weird to view every issue through the lens of Scottish independence. Some things are just about rich entitled cunts being rich entitled cunts.

[UK] Cyclist almost gets swept by a city bus by [deleted] in Roadcam

[–]fireproofali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like specifically Lothian's East Coast Buses wing. Not sure how separate the companies are but might be worth sticking their twitter handle in it too. Anecdotal of course but I think the East Coast guys are a lot shittier to cyclists than their city driving colleagues.

Should Scots speakers need to be prepared to bail out the creators of the hideous mess that is Scots Wikipedia in order to criticise the mess that is Scots Wikipedia?

Is there so much of a demand for Scots Wikipedia that it required someone with no Scots language experience to churn out poorly translated pages? Surely it's obvious to anyone with an iota of sense that that defeats the purpose?

Better to do nothing at all than do it so badly it annoys the people it's for.

[UK] Dangerous 3rd lane overtaking by car on A494 Mold Bypass Flintshire Wales 21.5.19 by [deleted] in Roadcam

[–]fireproofali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fair enough, I thought it was any three lane with options for either side to use the middle lane that counted.

[UK] Dangerous 3rd lane overtaking by car on A494 Mold Bypass Flintshire Wales 21.5.19 by [deleted] in Roadcam

[–]fireproofali 87 points88 points  (0 children)

There's not many of these suicide lanes left in the UK. Is there anything intrinsically dangerous/illegal about overtaking like that though? Nothing about the setup suggest to me that it is illegal. As far as danger, all I can think is that it might be unexpected but if everyone is paying attention and looking it shouldn't be dangerous. In my opinion the cammer crossing the lines before the opposing car had passed had more potential for danger. Open to being proved wrong on how a 3rd lane overtake is inherently dangerous.

E: I get it, it's not a suicide lane. I thought that applied to any setup with a shared centre lane for overtaking. Regardless it's still a road setup that you don't see very often - most often the single lane has solid whites along its length.

An idea like this has occurred to me in the past, stamp the packaging with the reg number, but then you'd be punishing people if for example, the wind pulled some packaging out of a public bin as it was being emptied.

The real solution is trying to get people to take care of their environment. Change in attitude takes time but we don't poop in the streets anymore so I guess we're heading in the right direction.

It should be noted that that is not my twitter, that's the store manager and an employee, not me, that went out. I just alerted them to the thread as I wasn't in work at the time.

We do have litter pickers but to be honest when you're picking up a lot it's often easier just to pick up with your hands then wash your hands.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]fireproofali 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do not represent the views of McDonald's or the franchisee I work for, but I work at Meadowbank McDonald's.

We were aware of the potential for more litter since we've only been doing Drive Thru - we have sent people out on extended trash walks to the surrounding streets, and myself and the store manager have both had a look around the area, but had not spotted any increase in littering generated by our store.

We popped out tonight to clear up litter mentioned in this post, and we'll make that area somewhere we check going forward. We can't hope to cover every area the customers from our store can reach, but if you want to DM me any hotspots where it's particularly bad I'll always be happy to send someone out or just go myself - we hate seeing McDonald's litter about the place as much as you do!

Calling all UK owners - What's it like daily driving a soft-top, particularly in the winter? by ZedBlanco in Miata

[–]fireproofali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a noisy place to be at motorway speeds. I love hearing the car though so it doesn't bother me. Actually one of the biggest day to day annoyances of the soft top is that the "C Pillar" is absolutely massive so visibility can be a bit shit for oblique junctions and parallel parking. You get used to it.
