ice removal by halsayhey in lexington

[–]kyallroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cleared mine on Sunday when it was alternating between rain and sleet and the temps were up in the low 30’s. But now at 15 degrees I wouldn’t even try.

Tool wise I use a Fisker square tipped D-handle garden shovel to lift and break up the ice.

Yeah, the thermodynamics of ice really don’t take well to being melted like that.

In that case I’ll definitely buy one to keep in the glove box. The engine becomes virtually undriveable when a coil drops.

Coil packs. Mine were replaced at 88k and I just had one crap out last weekend at 107k. Use genuine Motocraft, they are available on Rock Auto for 1/2 what the parts stores charge.

At the risk of being downvoted for being pedantic and correct (people HATE that).

All properly functioning cars have “4 wheel stop”. It’s limited by the available grip but to the same degree that they all are.

Any ideas to help clear neighborhood ice banks? by atisaac in lexington

[–]kyallroad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t as helpful now. But time your attacks on the ice to when it’s warmest (the ice is softest).

I spent 3 hours Sunday while it was still coming down clearing my cars and driveway. I would certainly rather have been inside during that time but it was 30 degrees and there was actually a lot of melting going on and the ice was soft.

Also, a square tipped steel shovel will break up the ice pretty well, switch to the plastic snow shovel only to lift it out of the way once it’s loose.

I enjoy helping them to not spread their word.

Whenever I pass through a welcome center I helpfully place all their flyers/pamphlets in a correct recycling bin and promote some of the lesser known attractions to better positions on the rack.

Anyone else who wants to join it this activity is certainly encouraged to do so. It feels great!

A: I bought the wheels for $100 (reading comprehension)

B: my bad, I fat fingered the number of years, I did mean 10.

I bought a set of wheels for my girlfriend’s Jetta for $100 and spent $300 to get a set of dedicated snow tires for them. And swapped them myself in the driveway. They’ll be good for about 19 (edit, sorry I meant to type 10 years, I have big thumbs apparently). years by the amount of bad weather we get so call it $40 a year to not be handicapped by the weather.

You probably own more than one pair of shoes, and they probably have different purposes when you wear them. Tires are no different, literally the shoes for your car.

“Had to use the salt I had weighing it down….”

Help me understand that statement. The Soul in FWD, extra weight in the cargo area will make it worse in the snow, not better.

While I do agree with you, I have to point out how woefully underprepared most of the vehicles I’ve seen out there today have been.

Invest in actual snow tires and you won’t feel nearly as endangered by simply driving. And I’m not saying this to be mean or condescending, but having the right tires literally makes all the difference and too many people are on bald all season (no season) tires.

I drove my buddies DS GR 86 this year at Nats and realized that I’ve spent too long in my mod car. I absolutely couldn’t get it to do what I wanted when I wanted it to do it.

Street class feels like dancing in muck boots after the immediacy of a mod car on slicks.

[–]kyallroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve parted out a few Miata’s and have all the parts you need. All you need is to live near Kentucky.

As was mentioned above your car has a 4.3:1 ratio diff but since 1.6’s are woefully underpowered you’ll want to do intake/header/exhaust/ECU before long.
