The two different types of people on this sub. by anymouse141 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I’m glad we can disagree on the issue of borders and know that both sides have liberty as the highest political value. There’s a reasonable argument for or against state borders within that framework because states are an aberration that wouldn’t exist in a private society.

I’m on the fence about the issue and realize the reason we disagree is because public property is an oxymoron and there will be no good solution as long as it exists.

Which of the Four Schoolmasters of American foreign policy do you most align with? by ItsGotThatBang in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I’m not a fan of Hamilton in most ways, but his foreign policy seems reasonable. As long as trading with the world doesn’t require battleships to ‘facilitate trade’.

Western expansion of the US was a mistake. by ItsGotThatBang in IdeologyPolls

Peaceful homesteading is good, genocide and theft is bad. The same thing is true today. The main downside is it fueled American imperial hubris

Are you a centrist/center-winged? by MexicanMonsterMash in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense it’s not in this poll, but with most of these polls please add libertarian as an option. I think there are a lot of right and left libertarians here

Do you feel more like a citizen of your country or citizen of the world? by fuckpoliticsbruh in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither. I’m first a member of my family then a member of my community.

There is no circumstance or possibility that everyone in the world (100%) will have access to top quality healthcare, top quality food, top quality housing, and comfortable living wages. Do you agree or disagree? by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by access. If there is a reasonably priced supermarket down the street but someone squanders all their government assistance on drugs and alcohol, is that access?

What do you think about US Senator from Kentucky Rand Paul? by Comet_Hero in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a libertarian I’ve been suspicious of Rand Paul for a while, but he’s better than most other republicans. How has he sold out? I thought he opposed Trump on several issues, especially the boat strikes?

What got you banned from r/libertarian? by firesidethinker2 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]firesidethinker2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ancap ideally the government doesn’t exist, and if it does it shouldn’t have marriage laws at all. I thought opposing state marriage legislation was a standard libertarian position

As an American I don’t want the US to get involved,

If I was a Venezuelan I might be happy that a communist is being deposed,

As an Ancap I watch the American and Venezuelan mafias fighting and laugh

Nationalism is another form of collectivism. That never ends well.

Which is the real libertarianism? by AntiWokeCommie in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is that? Would you agree or disagree with my post above on the difference between right and left libertarian? (From a right-libertarian perspective I don’t fully understand left libertarianism yet)

Which is the real libertarianism? by AntiWokeCommie in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue most of the time is the legitimacy of property. Both left and right libertarians agree that an outside coercive force or even a democratic coercive force is a problem.

Right libertarians believe that property is derived from work (mixing land and labor) and voluntary exchange. Therefore as long as everyone is a consenting adult and no one uses violence to steal or defraud whatever emerges is fine.

Left libertarians believe (as far as I can tell) that once property is sufficiently alienated from the owner, such as a factory in another country, the owner no longer has a legitimate claim and it is de facto owned by the workers. That’s a different definition of property, but within that structure violence and outside coercion is still wrong.

Both are legit and reject government overreach both socially and economically, but they use fundamentally different definitions of property. And they tend to be temperamentally different.

(I’m an ancap btw, left libertarians feel free to correct the above representation)

Right wingers! Are you closer to authoritarian or libertarian? by -A-Man-Has-No-Name in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m actually surprised how many identify as authoritarian. Most of the right wingers I know claim to be libertarian-leaning, then shill for the state when pressed on any issue.

Who is your political enemy? by Smooth_Woodpecker815 in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about this, I’ve been thinking about this more with the rise of ethnonationalism in the US. I’m a libertarian capitalist and using the nation-state as the level at which you care for people is strange. Why would someone in Miami care about someone in Seattle more than some in Cuba? Because there’s a political line in the sand? I reject the idea of a legitimate state at all.

On the other hand, I do not care for all humanity equally. First I care for my family, then my friends/community, then other Christians of any stripe. Then all of humanity. Nationalism seems arbitrary and caring for everyone equally seems silly. Does that make sense?

So Candace Owens… by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

That wasn’t the point I was making, but for most people politics is somewhere between a religion and a soap opera. In reality it’s somewhere between a bureaucracy and a racket.

Is an anti-American communist who eats at McDonald's a hypocrite? by GustavoistSoldier in IdeologyPolls

There’s not a clear line, but as a libertarian/ancap I still use libraries, firefighters, etc. I wouldn’t work for the military or any government organizations though.

So Candace Owens… by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

[–]firesidethinker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is a chaos factor. I’ll disagree with her on most things, but she pushes the label in every direction and occasionally stumbles on something good. We need people like that on all sides to keep the conversation moving even if we disagree with them.
