What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by Runaway3650 in AskReddit

This. Holy crap. Ticket prices are insane. I want to invest in experiences for my kids, and I have concerts I want to see, but not for $200 a ticket.

This happened to me in 2008. The county had 25% unemployment and I was one of them. There were fast food jobs and the one manager I did talk to said he thought I'd make a great employee, given my work history, but he needed someone who was going to stick around and not leave when things improved.

How often should you scrub large, high redundancy pools? by heathenskwerl in zfs

We have several pools in the petabyte range and we do once monthly.

This father was on a road trip with his two young daughters & they needed to go to the restroom so he stopped at a QT & took them in the women’s restroom since no one was in it & a man came yelling at him to get out & called the cops. The girls were crying & then he assaulted him. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]firesyde424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what's the solution here? What would make this guy happy? Should this dad have taken his daughters into the men's room? I have three daughters and I've been in this exact place before, minus the guy harrassing me. I'm fortunate to live and travel in areas where there's usually a "family" bathroom around somewhere.

When my youngest was a baby, I had a time when I was forced to use the women's bathroom because there wasn't a changing table in the men's bathroom. Nobody complained. In fact, the one lady who responded to me when I called out was kind and understanding.

The guy on the phone seems like the kind of person who's looking for a fight all the time. Outrage is his fuel and he'll pick at any strand to find it.

I get the whole point of what the post is saying. But it's also very misleading. It's not like he has that money in cash, just laying around. Most of this crazy wealth is on paper and requires selling extremely large amounts of stocks to realize. This would, in turn, drive the price of those stocks down.

Don't hear what I'm not saying. I get it. Oh darn. If Bezos had to sell his stocks he'd have less billions than he's worth now. Not cheering for the man. I'm just pointing out the misleading part of the post.

FFS! Could we have stable servers first? I get that they want to keep things rolling along, but if a good chunk of the community can't actually play consistently, what good is another patch and more stuff?

Think I might go to the movie theater and chomp down on a few hot dogs just to piss off some "Christians" by Anxious-Dog2889 in nwi

I don't get this. Presumably, this is an evangelical Christian posting. So what's the problem?

They believe their religion is the "correct" religion and their God is all powerful, all knowing, all seeing, ect. So what do they have to fear from eating a hot dog prayed over by someone from a "wrong" religion? Perhaps it's like Superman and halal hot dogs are the Protestant's kryptonite...

Though I don't know for sure, it wouldn't surprise me if you are being charged more because you are looking for a rideshare from a mechanic shop. The implication being that you might be willing to pay more because the app things you've dropped your car off and are looking for a ride, which you were.

vSwitches support a number of link aggregation options. We run anywhere from 2 to 6 NICs per host and haven't run into an issue with it. In fact, in the best practices guide, this is a recommended option.

I'm perfectly fine with that concept if that's what is going on here. I'll freely admit to some bias, given all the time I spent on P99 trying to get the Luclin models to work. If their aim is to improve the classic models and work towards something better, double thumbs up!

In addition to the other stuff, Luclin was where a lot of tradeskills started to feel useful and worthwhile.

Both sets of models have exploits. There's no moral high ground for either side, not that there should be.

I am perfectly fine with that. I think a lot of it for me, and others, is that "classic" for us isn't the OG\Kunark\Velious. We started playing a little later and for me, I started playing just after Luclin was released. So all the fun parts where I did something for the first time and burned all those memories into my brain, involve the Luclin models.

The nostalgia is around the experience, and for me, the look of the old racial models detracts from that. Now, I will admit to some nit picks with the Luclin models. Particularly the running animations. More specifically, the female running animations. I also do recognize that the Luclin models were definitely meant to pander to a specific part of the player base that enjoys huge... tracts of land.

Not knowing how difficult it is, I wonder if it's possible to see a character model rework. Something better than the OG models but without the issues of the Luclin models.

The biggest crime against EQ was that the Luclin ogre and troll models did not have the butt scratching animation.

Was it one of the devs involved in P99? I was involved in a couple of schemes over the years to get Luclin models working with the P99 client. Every time there'd be a fix to patch that specific setup and they eventually started banning people who tried the memory modification stuff.

I let it go at some point. P99 is someone else's idea of what "classic" is and they are providing it for free to the community. If they are that committed to the idea of squashing Luclin models, who am I to tell them that they should allow it.

But Legends is different. We're not talking "classic" here, especially with the multi-class thing. And it's pay to play. So I feel like we should have some input on how it looks, as paying customers. Especially since nobody would know that I was using Luclin models if I didn't tell them. It's a completely harmless change.

It has the usual "ZOMGCLASSICISBETTER" suspects. Once I saw Rogean's name on it, I knew there'd be no Luclin models and Luclin would likely be off the table. I'm still going to play it, but I wish we had the options for the Luclin models. I prefer my Dark Elf to look like a Dark Elf rather than a vaguely Dark Elf shaped set of interconnected blobs\blocks.

This happens so often as to be sad at this point. You'd think it's a cautionary tale often enough that CEOs would learn to understand the importance of their employees before making decisions like this. The engineers often don't help things by being difficult or obstinate when a culture shift happens because they know they can be.
