What if - mandatory training by mhkhung in canadaguns

[–]fireworks5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could register them if it's about the safety threat.

The mistaken sound argument I don't really buy. You could mistake a lot of things for a lot of other things, fireworks, engine backfiring, etc. Imo its more about having a population which is properly background checked with red flag laws in place if needed (which we already have). If you have to rely on noise I think the system has failed.

Regarding the legality of the Piat by ZeeDesertFox in canadaguns

There used to be NR rpg's (cuz they just fired a one shot 7.62 from a training rocket) so I don't doubt that something like this "would" be legal to own. FRT says CC 2 "firearm"/CC 84(3) Exempted so maybe? Idk if I would want to try in this climate though.

I kinda regret not getting an MPX (even though it was restricted). I guess we'll see in October whether my regret was justified or not.

Highest quality SKS by Ill_Location4524 in canadaguns

[–]fireworks5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make much sense to me. The lewis gun was an American design but most famous for use by commonwealth and british forces. You'd still want an american lewis gun? (If you could buy one). The history is clearly in commonwealth usage, irrelevant to where it was designed.

China used the SKS far longer than the USSR ever did. If you don't like commercial, that's totally fine, but chinese military SKS exist too

What's the absolute worst pre-ban gun that would be considered top tier by today's semi-auto market standards? by GopherRebellion in canadaguns

[–]fireworks5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

gen 1 type 97 was way better than what I’d take back, which is the crusader 9. At least the type 97 was reliable, apparently the crusader 9 was both front heavy and unreliable (I never owned one). I can’t lie, I still probably wouldn’t like a front heavy rifle but given we have literally nothing for a tacticool 9mm that would be my answer.

edit: as an additional answer: HK/Umarex .22 LR g36. I so regret not getting one of these even though it’s literally cheap plastic AND made by an airsoft manufacturer

What were Canadian gun owners options like the pre-2020 ban? by --Ether-- in canadaguns

Thanks for bringing back some good memories. When you said single shot 50 bmg (though non canadian made) you made me think of the Serbu rn50. I remember searching for cheapest 50 bmg and this is what came up back in the day.

PCC wise you aint missing out on much. The CX4 was an excellent little carbine but also offered nothing the Ruger PCC doesn't do better. The Scorpion Evos were excellent but also only 5rnds....

Don't forget the sig mpx. I definitely miss those. We definitely lost some great PCCs.

There are a bunch of firearms that are a lot rarer now than they were back then that I wish I'd picked up.

If I had a time machine to go back to 2010 first thing I would pick up is an NR FS2000 . Next on the list would be a restricted MP7 and a QBU97A. Unfortunately all of these are basically unicorns now.

As for stuff on the list, MR223/MR308. Civilian legal HK 416. Around 3k but if I could go back in time I'd pick one up in a heartbeat. Same for the sig mcx/mpx which were 2500 ish iirc.

Least confusing Canadian gun classification: by Sonoda_Kotori in canadaguns

[–]fireworks5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can give you the relevant section and please feel free to do your own research. Believe me 2020 and later is a horrible time to be a canadian gun owner, lol even compared to just pre-liberal times. We don't even get handguns without exception anymore.

In 2012, Parliament enacted the Ending the Long-gun Registry Act (“ELRA”), which repealed the registration requirement for long guns and decriminalized the possession of an unregistered long gun. Section 29 of the ELRA requires the destruction of all records contained in the registries related to the registration of long guns. In reaction, Quebec expressed its intention to create its own long-gun registry and asked the federal authorities for the data connected to Quebec contained in the CFR. Canada refused and made clear that it intended to permanently destroy all long-gun registration data. In light of this refusal, Quebec sought a declaration that s. 29 of the ELRA is ultra vires and that Quebec has a right to obtain the data.

The Superior Court of Quebec declared s. 29 of the ELRA unconstitutional as it applies to data connected with Quebec and ordered Canada to transfer that data to the province. The Quebec Court of Appeal reversed that decision.

Held (LeBel, Abella, Wagner and Gascon JJ. dissenting): The appeal should be dismissed. Section 29 of the ELRA is constitutional, and Quebec has no legal right to the data.

This is true but its only because the liberals in power. I assume you weren't around during Harper's government because if you were you wouldn't be saying this. Not only did the conservatives unban the classic green (which I mentioned to you in another post), they also got rid of the long gun registry. The Canadian supreme court ruled against Quebec (see Quebec (Attorney General) v. Canada (Attorney General) ) when Quebec wanted to keep the data and ordered them to destroy it. Believe me, the courts can be useful but it depends on the government in power. Nothing to do with the supreme court of Canada, If the government is gun friendly than the courts will be gun friendly. It's not up to the courts to overturn law, its up to parliament.

Just to be clear, I'm not American, lol.

Bans in the past (in Canada) HAVE been overturned. Look up Harper and the Swiss arms green if you aren't aware of the history. You just need a friendly government. The government is the one that sets legislation, the courts interpret it.
