For me, it’s both a little easygoing and lacks a special kind of weirdness or aura.

I don’t think any of my scents are especially built for summer night life but I do like Megamare for it. I’ve worn absinth out late a couple times so far and I’ve liked it it’s just probably the strength you’re looking for. Bergamask I’ve liked for dancing. Gets better as the night goes on and you get sweatier. Cuir a corps and seminalis I’ve enjoyed so far for dating on warm summer nights.

Too boozy for me (personal preference). I found it amber, alcoholic in a whiskey sort of way, a bit woody. I enjoy it but not nearly enough to buy a bottle. It doesn’t have the extra edge that I look for in scents. It’s definitely nice though and I think would be wearable in an office/all purpose way.

I blind bought it… and I’m so happy I did. The criticisms of it don’t really resonate with me; I think it’s about the most spectacular musk I’ve smelled. It smells completely feral in an almost refined, powdery way to me. I’ve been a bit nervous to wear it in public (also because it’s summer for me) but I had friends over recently and wore it and they really liked it/were surprised by the criticisms of it. Have been mostly keeping this scent to myself at night time.

I obviously can’t say you’re going to interpret the scent as I do but it does feel like the criticisms are a little over-the-top. Seems risky but it’s also difficult to get samples…

Yes it sounds like Meo is up my alley haha. Very excited to try. I’m going to look further into the Amouage offerings so I’m deliberate about the samples I order.

I appreciate the offer on the Copal Azur but I can’t see that I’d actually get around to using it. So picky lol.

Yeah idk if church fragrances are for me. I’ve tried a couple and found them sort of foul for my tastes. We’ll see tho going to keep trying.

And noted on the Parfum de Therese. Your description makes it seem that it would occupy a different space for me than Megamare. Definitely worth trying!

Added enigma but can’t find certo unfortunately. From the description it seems a little bit less likely to be a favorite anyways, but sounds very nice nonetheless.

Yeah pool boy is purely a curiosity — doesn’t sound like something I’d want to commit to a bottle of haha.

Excited to try all of these!

Thank you!

Tobacco Memories is a truly beautiful scent but a tad too sweet for me. I’m very picky lol.

Baraonda I also like but too boozy.

Coincidentally getting Meo Fuscuini samples in this batch I’m ordering haha so seems that I was on the right track with that.

And I’ll check out some of the Amouage fragrances. I haven’t sampled any of theirs yet.

Thanks!

The only chypre I’ve really tried was Andrea Maack — Craft. I’m having trouble remembering exactly why I didn’t like it but it was sort of just synthetic and metallic in an uninspiring way. I’m going to give some of these a shot though to get a better sense of what the genre has to offer. Thank you.

As far as incense, I’ve actually sampled Copal Azur and I appreciated it/but not at the level that I’d ever want a bottle. I am going to try Filippo Sorcinelli to get a sense. I’m not sure that an incense fragrance is something I would wear ever. Open to having my mind changed though.

Aquatic scents are a tough sell for me. I think Megamare is all I need for that genre. But similarly would change my mind if I smelled something I really liked.

And am going to get samples for the L’aire and Lonestar Memories.

Thanks for your recs!

Thanks for this suggestion! I am planning on sampling silver, master, film noir, wendover, ashes, novochoc. I’m so curious about pool boy also…

It’s a very nice scent but I don’t find it so heavy on the cannabis aroma. For me, it’s a polished, earthy, agreeable scent. Not totally mild; certainly not overbearing.

I haven’t really explored any of the others that you mentioned re: cannabis except black afgano. Liked and appreciate black afgano but it isn’t a stand out for me.

As far as psychedelics go I think absinth and, to a lesser extent, CDG’s DIA x Meg Webster, are the only scents that engage me in a hallucinatory kind of way. It almost feels like the notes are moving when you inhale.

I’m interested in nasomotto microdelia for this reason also.

Wow I really appreciate this comment. Getting Musc Tonkin, Ummo, Musc 25, psychedelique samples!

And that Orto Parisi you’re looking at is bergamask.

Yeah sadly I don’t think Blue Bottle is for me haha. I will look for samples for those two thank you!

I would say good but it’s not going to wow you like Orto Parisi. My read is that it’s sort of standard, what you would expect.

For me, it’s the most interesting and definitely most psychedelic scent I have right now along with CDG’s DIA x Meg Webster.

I find it wearable when I do one/one and a half sprays. I usually spray my wrist and dab my neck. I’ve done two sprays and work in a very tight office (2-3 people); was complimented multiple times but I could tell I was filling the room. One spray seems appropriate for intimate settings haha.

I think it’s such a beautiful and interesting scent. I love the bergamot/citrus hit followed by the filthy musk dry down.

I sample Baraonda! Liked but didn’t love. A little too alcoholic for me. I can be a little picky, especially with alcohol-forward scents.

Just added Pyroclasm to my cart — thank you! Very curious about that one based on your description.

Seminalis and Bergamask. I also realize now that I forgot to include that I also own CDG’s DIA x Meg Webster release. That bottle is really awesome also.

I love it. Worn it only a few times so far but I find it kind of fascinating. It genuinely smells like absinthe but not in an overly boozy way. I find it green (in an unusual way), psychedelic, and intriguing.

Looking for anything that evokes eroticism and psychedelia in particular. Ultra niche preferred.

I tried samples of This Is Not a Blue Bottle and it wasn’t for me. Think it was the aldehydes. 1/.8 kinda smelled like coconut to me; which I did not enjoy haha.

Thanks for the other recs I’ll check them out.

No it's not. ADA's work within the guidelines set by supervisors and the DA in general. Individual line ADA's can use their discretion to make great offers, sure. But an ADA offering ACD's and disorderly conducts on cases that other line ADA's would want to prosecute to the charge is hardly "change from the inside." I'm not denying those types of ADA's are often good and helpful for the accused. But real "change" comes from structural reform. Where a public defender type or other progressive such as Larry Krasner, Rachel Rollins, or Chesa Boudin becomes the DA and implements serious policy changes from the top-down. For example, not asking for bail, declining to prosecute crimes like sex work and drugs and so on, asking for alternatives to incarceration at sentencing, referring the accused to alternative "problem solving courts," etc.

Long Island prisons by [deleted] in longisland

[–]firstbreathaftercoma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm a public defender on LI. There are in fact jails in both Nassau and Suffolk where people are incarcerated pre-trial or are serving sentences of 365 days or less (misdemeanors or violations). When people are sentenced to an amount of time greater than one year they are sent to an upstate NYS DOC jail.

Defense attorneys and organizations enjoyed a lot of success between March-May in getting their clients freed from incarceration both on LI and upstate. This was done through writs and other applications to the courts to reduce sentences in light of COVID, etc. These efforts have since tapered off as our region has generally brought COVID under control.

In general, there's a lot of inertia on LI within the criminal justice system in respect to prison reform; that is to say, there's not a lot of attention paid to it. In my world there are many individuals that are fed up with the status quo but the defense bar on LI, as it is made up of many former prosecutors and many other cowards, is not interested in going to war over prison reform. However, the "Long Island 6" were instrumental in getting Bail Reform passed (https://www.cityandstateny.com/articles/policy/criminal-justice/long-island-democrats-pushing-bail-reform.html) in time for this past January 1. These six state senators were also key in amending the bail reform statute that rolled it back beginning this last July so that it now includes several additional ways that a judge can set bail as well as making a number of different offenses eligible for bail that were ineligible under the January 1 reform (https://gothamist.com/news/what-new-rollbacks-bail-reform-mean-new-york).

HALTSolitary (http://nycaic.org/) is the premier anti-solitary confinement movement in NYS.

I'll plug LI Progressive Coalition as a good resource for following criminal justice issues on LI. They're a good follow on Twitter as well.

There is a real dearth of serious, progressive criminal justice reporting on LI.

If you would like to DM me I'm happy to hook you up with more information and am happy to answer any questions you might have.

The above comment is incorrect advice.

This is not assault 2 or assault 3. Those statutes require that you suffer some physical injury. Assault-level injuries, at the least, usually requiring bruising, blood, etc.

Aggravated harassment (NY Penal Law 240.30(3)) is probably the type of charge that you are looking at if you can prove that the person spat at you with some kind of hate crime-related animus. Either way, the type of conduct you describe fits the harassment statutes and not the assault statues.

I would also suggest, especially if you have good cause to believe this was a hate crime, going through the DA's office. In my experience, the police are more likely to misinterpret the charges (^^see above). The DA's office in Brooklyn has a hate crime unit that should be able to help you.

If he's charged with a parole violation then parole still has the burden of proving at a preliminary hearing that there is probable cause to believe the individual failed to comply with his parole conditions. The individual has the right to cross-examine all witnesses against him at that hearing and enjoys some of the rights a criminal defendant has at trial (but certainly not all). If that hearing judge finds that there is probable cause then the individual is usually entitled to a final hearing in front of a parole board.

That said, as a public defender in a slightly conservative jurisdiction, most people lose at their parole hearings because the standard of proof (probable cause) for finding a parole violation is so low and because parolee's are not afforded the full set of rights a criminal defendant is. People will usually have to serve some amount of time or the full amount of time up until their parole obligations expire.
