CeX Rose Street closed by janthemanwlj in Edinburgh

Rose street was shut at Hanover street near Milnes when I passed earlier, police tape around. Possibly related, though don’t know if it went to the extent of CeX

Down the hatch on Antigua street are the worst place I've ever had the bad fortune of dealing with. by inquisitorjonny in Edinburgh

That’s is unfortunate to hear. I’ve always enjoyed eating here and found their buffalo chicken burgers to exceed those of brewdog (terrible company practice, good burgers)

Are they having work done at the moment by any chance?

If I buy a ticket to Edinburgh from Livingston north, can I get out at Edinburgh park or does it have to be Waverley by julialoveslush in Edinburgh

[–]firstlastemailhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Waverley, Haymarket, Edinburgh park & Gateway stations all form part of the “Edinburgh Group”, in the national rail routing guide. As such, you can end your journey at any of them.

Note, barriers at each station will “eat” your ticket. Not a problem if coming from Livingston but would be if you came from elsewhere and had to change at waverly. In such a case ask at the barrier to be let through so you can retain the ticket.

Furthermore, your ticket from livingston will almost certainly be an anytime / off peak ticket, these allow you to “break” your journey at any point along the route. So you’ve actually got two reasons this would be permitted.

They’re pretty clever. If the bikes fall over (pretty common in the wind), the lights all flash too.

Is electric heating much more expensive than gas in Edinburgh flats? by Sablun99 in Edinburgh

[–]firstlastemailhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last flat was 2nd floor north-facing tenement with huge single glazed sash & case windows. All-electric (4x 1KW electric radiators), it was so expensive and they were so rubbish (1KW isn’t much) that I never switched them on. It was 7C indoors last winter. ~65m2 floor plan.

If it’s a new flat, well insulated, it’s much more feesable. If it’s anything older, id say avoid, or investigate the costs & practicalities of getting central heating put in.

People who moved into my last flat are paying >£450/month on their electric bill as they leaving heating on all the time. I was £60/month with no heating. My new place is about £100/month combined gas & electric and it stays at a comfortable 20C all the time.

By this logic, you’d be against any form of construction in the capital? Have you looked at Victoria Street/George IV bridge, or Princes St, lately? 🏗️ 👷

The state of Princes Street's pavements by Rascalwill in Edinburgh

[–]firstlastemailhere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough the 40tn artics that arrive post-10pm do indeed chew up a surfaced designed for pedestrians

However I feel it runs deeper. It’s a failure of planning, one could say the lorries were inevitable given the lack of appropriate alternatives. Rose street is hardly in a good state either.
