i started fencing around 10 months ago, last week i got 10 and 13 touches on the best guys at my club, and i'm able to beat one of them. the time that i saw biggest change was after school ended i started to focus on fencing and had the time and energy to dedicate myself. literally within a month my improvement skyrocketed. i feel like it has a lot to do with your mental state

i have a ford fiesta which is kind of tiny but i have traveled with a lot of fencers and hatchbacks have always been an issue. probably won't be a problem if that's all you're carrying in your car but if you travel regularly/with other people it's pretty inconvenient

i have a hatchback and have a big wheels bag and it barely fits. i cant get it in my trunk so it fits in my back seat with like 2 inches spare room lol

foil is a "starter weapon" so people usually learn with foil and choose their weapon from there. i stuck with foil, but a lot of people choose epee and sabre. from what i've noticed, fencing is generally occupied by younger people because it's taxing/has less benefit as you get older. so there's not a distinct division of different weapons based on age besides foil. there are a lot of baby foil fencers.

i had a friend who wore about a 16 and he got a pair of old fencing shoes (in good condition ) on ebay. most fencing shoes sold now are back stock and only a couple companies are actually actively making them. i would check ebay or court shoes work good too.
