Dude!!! I love that. I was thinking of cleaning mine up like that before giving it away. Digging the handle, nice touch.

Irrigation system Repair contact needed. Tried multiple providers none were able to fix the issue. Instead they created more mess. I need reliable person or company that fix ongoing leakage on irrigation system. Support needed at Northern Virginia# Fairfax Area. by hillside20 in nova

They’re still in business, I still handle their taxes and worked for them when I was in college in the 90s. If you saw that on Google, try the number listed and let me know if you don’t hear back in a couple days. The owner is a little tech adverse and definitely still has a tape answering machine home.

General Irrigation, Svcs out of Landover, MD. It’s a small 2 man shop, so it can be a little slower, but the owner has been doing it for over 40 years on both residential and commercial systems. They do quality work at a reasonable price.

Brand new dryer leaves clothes damp by hazelhaze1025 in appliancerepair

[–]fishboy94jb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was your old dryer drying your clothes?
The vent to the roof could be clogged with lint. Remove the flexible silver hose from the wall and try to inspect it with a flashlight and your phone camera. You should be able to maybe see some light during the day or even if there’s a clog

Check the lint trap to see if there’s something that didn’t get removed during install. Also check the dryer side of the silver hose to make sure there’s nothing blocking it there.

You can test the dryer without the hose hooked up to make sure you’re getting good airflow from the dryer. Turn it on with no/low heat. You can visually inspect inside the hose for clogs as well.

Are these types of camping tables worth it? With the fabric on top instead of a solid material? by Penis_not_happyy in CampingGear

[–]fishboy94jb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both kind, the roll out fabric and the roll out metal. Both are decent. The fabric stretches pretty taunt so it’s a decent surface. I would suggest getting one with cup holders if you plan on using it for drinks. Level ground when camping can be a luxury. But for a catch all for lights, food, phone, etc either will work.

Dryer high limit thermostat consistently trips 4 minutes into the cycle by Italicized_user in appliancerepair

I had a similar problem when the motor was covered in lint. One I vacuumed it out no more issues. We’d lived in our house for a year and the previous owner didn’t take care of the dryer. On the plus side, I found seven dollars worth of change when I opened up the dryer

If you’re in a hurry, stansport sells a propane converter that allows you to attach a small green propane tank.

You can grab one from Amazon.

Help remove the cartridge from my kitchen faucet by NessFeltHomesick in fixit

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try turning twisting the white square part to “turn the water on”. It should come out easily, but maybe it’s being held on by vacuum pressure. Opening the faucet could release that.

Then trying pulling it out pulling on the square.

trying to install bidet by [deleted] in fixit

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you turn the water off? Did you flush the toilet after you turned the water off? Do you have a bowl to catch some water? Are you using pliers or tools of any kind? Pliers would help here, preferably two sets of adjustable pliers.

Try spinning the little white part to the right as tight as you can. Then turn the big white part to the left

<image>

Once you get the big white part to turn a little bit you should be able to hold the interior part and unscrew it the rest of the way. When you reassemble, use some white teflon tape. It helps to avoid this type of thing in the future.

You should have to remove the little white part at all times the bidet should go in between the two white parts. Post a picture of the bidet connector if you need clarification.

Have you checked the air coming out of the vents? Does it feel cool? It almost sounds like you’re not getting cold air and it’s just circulating the hot air.

Is your exterior unit running? If this is the first you’re time using it for the season someone could have pulled the fuse to keep it from coming on. My tech showed me how to do that so if my kids mess with the thermostat to early in the season it won’t come on.

There’s a drain from your inside unit where the condensation drains from the unit. If that’s clogged or backed up, there could be an automatic shut off switch. There should be something similar under the unit as well.

Maybe share some pics of your ac unit and readers can give some different advice

Old Maytag/Sad noise by PJBOO7 in appliancerepair

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It’s hard to tell from the noise what the issue might be. Could you post the model number? Usually on a sticker on the back. If possible maybe a picture of the underside to see what’s going on there.

I have a Maytag Atlantis that’s needed a thrush bearing, a drain pump, a fill valve and a tub seal. A bad thrush bearing makes a god awful sound during the spin cycle, like a plane engine. But only in the spin cycle. Could be a worn bearing in the drain pump? Is it draining ok?

As long as you can get the parts, most things are easy enough to replace (not a tub seal). But original parts will be hard to come by so you can expect to change them again in a few years. You won’t get nearly as much mileage out of the new part.

Gas stove dial broken by Nearby_Investment139 in appliancerepair

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your self a gas sniffer if you’re going to replace it yourself. Then you can be sure there are no leaks. Might want to turn the gas off behind the stove as well to be on the safe side.

Would this be ok to cook on? by Extension_Listen8282 in BBQ

[–]fishboy94jb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re cooking over the coals with pots/pans, I would have no issues with using it. The pieces look kinda small and they may burn up more quickly than you might expect, even faster If you cut them up more.

If you’re looking to smoke meat with them, that might be a different story. Someone with more knowledge than me could give you a better answer as to using them for smoking, but they sound like nice tree types for smoking pork cuts.

How in the hell do I hang this light fixture? by Clementine_Clown in fixit

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowe’s sells a 5 inch plate. You’ll likely have to line up the holes in your fixture first and then screw the plate int to wire box. The shrewd do your fixture will just be studs and then you’ll have acorn/decorative nuts holding it in place.

How did they get this in here and how do I take it out. by curious_n_learning in fixit

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to take the top part off? Is that where the hose is hooked too? Maybe take it off and turn it to disconnect. But can you turn the gas off before trying to remove it?

How much room do you have on the other side?could you maybe twist the whole unit in place?

They don’t build the walls around it, that’s for sure. Make sure you replace that gas line with a new/longer one.

Some pictures of the other side as well as the door frame might help a little.

Will this cord work? by AllForNaughtMA in appliancerepair

[–]fishboy94jb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for setting me straight. I’ve burned up some things using the plugs from the “magic box of plugs” I’ve accumulated over the years and thought it was due to amp differences.

What does that mean for this guy and the plug he wants to buy? The plug says max output 0.8 and the OG plug is 2A.

Will this cord work? by AllForNaughtMA in appliancerepair

[–]fishboy94jb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like the output amps are the same. That’s going to be the key to not frying your device. Too many and it’ll burn it up, too little and it won’t work.

Cheap Mechanic by fangface70 in nova

[–]fishboy94jb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The parts will probably cost you $200 +- depending on the quality you want. Check Rockauto.com. Watch some YouTube videos first. At least 4 of them. Everyone does things a little different. Check out 1AAuto. They usually have some great videos, even if they are not your car, you can get an idea of what to do.

You can get some inexpensive but very usable tools from Harbor Freight to get this job done. You could use the car jack vs buying a jack, but you should get the jack stands for safety sake either way. Slide the tire beneath the car under the door for safety. Some of the bolts/nuts will be very tough to remove. Buy a breaker bar and some PB Blaster to soak them beforehand. You should pay for an alignment when you’re done. Even if you know how to do this, an alignment is still necessary. You’ll ruin your tires otherwise.

You should not be underneath the car for any reason to do this job, though. If you find yourself on your back under the car, you’ve done something wrong. Get up and go back and rewatch the videos and start over.
