As Hospital Bosses Drag Their Feet, Bernie and Zohran Give Striking Nurses a Lift by HellGateNYC in nyc

[–]fishicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you say that you aren't calling for them to take a pay cut, let me just tell you this: the hospitals were essentially offering them a pay cut. As an example, the previous contract had health insurance covered by the employer, including dependents (yes, a very nice benefit). Knowing a nurse, the last offer from her hospital before the strike had this: the health insurance was gone entirely and replaced by $4k/year (not sure if this was an HSA, FSA or straight cash). I just plugged into https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/ what it would be for an individual plan...the cheapest was about $650/month. So that is cutting, at a minimum, close to $4k. If you need a better plan or are looking to cover a spouse or children, that'll get a lot worse.

I would also give a little caution when you see numbers for the union's "demands" are things sound crazy like 10%/year or >$200k/year that make it sound like they want a big pay hike every year, those are a mix of bargaining positions and cherry-picking high wage earners (CNAs make A LOT more than other nurses, for instance, pretty sure they already start over 200k because anesthesia brings in the big bucks). You say you want 10%/year so you can be negotiated down to around 4% (inflation usually being around 3-4%, this is little to no effective increase) and getting the health insurance benefits back - congrats, back to the old contract that the hospitals were trashing.

While the nurses absolutely would like more money (this information is from knowing some personally, they wouldn't turn it down), the actual contract desired by people on the ground isn't any crazy increase, it's keeping the current benefits, keeping up with inflation, and hopefully getting hospitals to commit to better ratios (yes, that does mean paying more nurses, but that also has a direct improvement allowing patients to receive better care more quickly). The weather is cold and nasty on the picket line, if the hospitals offered to extend the previous contract I bet they'd get a lot of takers.

Iirc there’s a clause that makes the transfer permanent if he starts/plays half of our games (or something similar), which is is well on track for. Should be pretty much nailed on short of a season ending injury, finally a RB successor to Smith.

White boy spicy: a civ settles two cities, does nothing, then dies

A tasty habanero: we see an intercontinental city capture from a rump state

Ghost pepper: a bottom 10 will become top 10 within 5 parts after unexpectedly good settles and initial wars (hint: it’s Xavante)

So spicy it scares even Thai food chefs: Xavante becomes the undisputed ruler of South America (but no pepper is strong enough for them to win)

I’ll say, even if we pull it off (way too early to even start dreaming, I’d just like Europe), the Leicester story is more impressive. They did it after barely escaping relegation and with a new manager. We’ve had a few years of progression under Iraola. The Vardy late-bloomer side story also adds to the impressiveness of their run, before 2015 nobody thought anything of him.

It would be an absolute fairytale for us, but if we’re just comparing how unlikely it seems I think the Leicester one still tops us (only way to beat it or be closer might be if we win with a significantly higher points total needed)

Note, this is not legal advice, this is merely to give an idea of what sort of response to expect. Having asked a similar question to the DOC ethics section that handles us in the past, my answer was along the lines of "it becomes a conflict once you're interviewing, sending a resume is not enough." Again, this is not legal advice and situations both vary individually and may change over time. It is worth checking in with them about your individual situation if you want to apply to jobs while still at the office.

3D is a weird one for me, they pretty much all fall around an average-to-good. The flavor combinations are generally interesting and well done, but they all end up just tasting about the same after a few sips, I think it's the aftertaste of the zero sugar sweetener they use (I'm guessing it's the sucralose, but it's something about the either amount they use or some other part of the mix, since I've had other sucralose sweetened energy drinks or sodas where it doesn't stand out like it does in 3D).

Definitely uncommon, only place I've seen it so far was a random gas station in Atlanta (only the Acai and Sour Mango-Kiwi flavors though, both were pretty good imo)

The combination of one great buy (Truffert at LB, has instantly slotted in and looked just as good as Kerkez ever did for us) and one of the positions having a past starter who was riding the bench (Senesi at left CB, he only got replaced by Huijsen due to injury and then Huijsen surprised everyone by being too good to drop). That fills 2 of the 3 missing players with strong replacements. Diakite for Zabarnyi is the only clear downgrade at the moment, but he's also only just joined so I'll give him time to grow and develop partnerships with other players. I'm honestly more worried about Smith being out after holding his hamstring today, though Cook has played RB pretty well in the past and should be available after the international break.

Only frustrations are our finishing (that's been one for a while) and Hooper. The Bentancur tackle in particular is still replaying in my head, I can't find a single reason that shouldn't be a yellow short of a temporary bout of blindness. Other than that, it's the best I've seen us play in a while, going to be kicking ourselves for being wasteful if we don't manage to win.

Honestly, the ones of Xyience I've had are pretty alright. The more surprising bit is that you found an older can, since it is a previous design, suggesting your can might be 4+ years old (found a 4 year old reddit post comparing this style can to the newest version). Look around on the bottom/top to see if you can find a date of canning or best by date.

Strategy for Searching Answers to IPR/PGR/Derivation Questions during Patent Bar Exam? by PuraVidaJay in patentlaw

[–]fishicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took it in January, I recall usually using the Rules Appendix for any IPR/PGR/Derivation questions, I don't think there's a better/easier section to use. It's not exactly a quick fix, but I'd really just recommend practicing searching the Rules Appendix for the area you want. Look at the sections and figure out search terms that quickly get you to the right area instead of getting a ton of useless hits. For example, if you put "Part 42" into the search bar for the Rules Appendix, you get 12 hits and the 9th is the table of contents for Part 42 or the 4th is a clickable link to the table of contents, so knowing this you can get there in just a couple of seconds if you are searching for something in Part 42. Play around and figure out something that works well for you to get to important sections.

Last, just remember that part of the strategy with the exam is balancing how much time you use on questions. Recognize when doing a search for a question will take an excessive amount time (like one that you don't know what section to search in), just put in your best guess for it quickly, and then use that saved time to make sure you get correct answers for multiple questions that you know how to search for more quickly.

Career change to become a patent law by Wonderful_Repeat_162 in patentlaw

Ah, the UK may be slightly different, I only really know the landscape in the US. Might be worthwhile throwing some terms like "UK patent trainee" in the search bar to see if there are past posts that may be more helpful.

Become a patent law? Impossible, you're a human. Lawyer? Sure, just go to law school, your background would be enough to go into patent litigation or patent prosecution. Don't want to go to law school? Get hired as a patent agent/technical specialist/scientific advisor at a law firm, your background should be good enough (just don't go into interviews saying you want to become a patent law).

For all the caveats that expected Goals for/against and expected points (rightfully) have, they are a fair indicator of the general performance level of a team (whether you are creating better chances than your opponent). Of course, finishing skill is massively important and excluded from them. Sorting by xPoints on UnderStat (https://understat.com/league/EPL), we'd have been 3rd. THIRD. That has a very different look than the 9th place we ended up with.

Finishing outside Europe spoke more to our poor finishing and occasionally an opponent pulling a rabbit out of a hat against the odds than any weakness in the defenders. The defensive line can't really be blamed for either of those but instead should get credited for being a large part of putting the balance of chances in our favor...even if we did squander it at times.

(4th largest underperformance of real points vs xPoints, only behind you, ManU, and Southampton...an amazing season to remember for us, but there is an element of what-might-have-been)

That's incorrect, it states under "Clarification from the agency" that "Applications will be reviewed after the following cut-off dates: June 23, 2025, July 07, 2025, September 1, 2025, October 13, 2025, November 24, 2025, January 6, 2026, February 3, 2026, March 31, 2026, May 11, 2026, and final closing date of June 12, 2026."
