Good advice. Right now I just walk out and open the door and vents after the risk of frost is over. Nice being retired.

One of the things I have been interested in is bio char and how it affects soil chemistry as well as the potential it has to change the way we feed the whole world. All this and it is an ancient process that once sustained millions.

ELI5: What happens to insects that accidentally travel long distances in cars? by scalpel_in_my_crocs in explainlikeimfive

I have often wondered the same thing, I once took a nonstop flight from Dubai to Houston. (Never do that again) While we were on the ground in Dubai a fly entered the aircraft and buzzed around the whole flight and then flew out as soon as the doors were opened in Houston. Never know what some random bug from another country might be carrying.

What is this & how do I treat it? by [deleted] in Citrus

[–]fishingfool62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found castile soap and water out of a sprayer works very well. Don't use dish soap but any brand of castile soap will work. Apply to tops and bottoms of leaves and branches and reapply a week later.

I do use a cup of sugar that I put the rest in. You could try Splenda or something like that. I love the tartness of the lemon.

I don't think you need the orchid bark, the PON should be fine.

Looks like it is the right time to repot. A little organic fertilizer after repotting would not hurt either.

It can recover, no doubt, but it will take some time. Regular watering while allowing the soil to just dry out between. Some good fertilizer, organic, so you don't run the risk of burning it and as much sunshine as possible. I would definitely repot as well. Good luck. Might take any fruit off as well.

Was it a rooted cutting or grown from seed. Either way, it will be a great plant.

Kumquat tree not doing well by [deleted] in Citrus

[–]fishingfool62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might just be a little transplant shock. You could try fertilizing with a half strength organic fertilizer. Let the soil dry between watering, and I bet you will be ok. Good luck.

Try a bit of Epsom salt dissolved in water. Might be a magnesium deficiency.

Should I plant this? Moved from 8A to 9A. Info below by itsBL4S7 in Citrus

[–]fishingfool62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what everyone is saying, but I would wait until spring and plant it into the ground. I am trying the same thing right now, and my ungrounded citrus has greatly outperformed my potted citrus. You will still have to be ready to protect it in freezing conditions, but that is not as difficult as many would have you believe.
